I'm from Nepal, it grows wild everywhere, you can see fields of it, almost every farmer keeps a little in the villages for medical purposes for animals and sometimes humans, other than that few people smoke them, others don't really care. So yes, you make a good argument for legalization.

I am a Canadian who has been living in Thailand since 2009. Watching the program on CNA regarding cannabis in Thailand, I can't wait for a similar documentary on the effects of alcohol on both the individual and society. However, because that drug has been offically approved by governments and society, that documentary probably won't happen anytime soon.Too bad as in my lifetime I have never seen any fistfights or other violent behavior resulting from cannabis use unlike alcohol. From a media perspective, alcohol consumption is simply not controversial enough to get eyeballs on the screen.
The "what about booze" argument is pretty weak without digging too deep. The negative effects of alcohol are well known. I'm sure there's some clay tablet from the ancient Middle East bemoaning drunkenness. There are plenty of laws regarding public intoxication and DWI/DUI. There has been laws regarding the production, sale and consumption of alcohol since the Middle Ages if not longer.
@@pictzone marijuana is still a mind altering substance. I’m ok with legalization but I’m not blind to think it’s not going to have some negative effects.
It is about how fast the addiction leads to death. And, you die faster from it. People steal and kill for drugs. Thus, destroying families. It is far more serious than cigarettes.
This CNA production on cannabis in Thailand only portrays the negative aspects of its use. If Singapore, as a country, is opposed to it, then CNA Singapore should keep their opinions to themselves and not interfere with other countries' rules and regulations. While Singapore's strict smoking rules are admirable, Thailand has a more relaxed attitude towards it, and people here can smoke anywhere without the need to stand in ridiculous yellow boxes. It's important to make the documentary fair and unbiased. Why did CNA Singapore delete information about how cannabis can save lives, especially children with seizures, adults with depression, and those with conditions like insomnia and loss of appetite? If CNA Singapore plans to produce a documentary in Thailand, they should address the FICA situation in Singapore and attacks on human rights defenders first, before stirring up trouble in other country's affairs.
Because they're a bunch of conservatives, CNA is very very biased and always has been. But people with an IQ-score above room temperature usually see that instantly. If you take this channel seriously then I'm afraid you must be suffering from a bad case of d0wn-syndrome.
There is a reason why it had been banned for so many years. That is because it is too easy to overdose without any medical knowledge. I went there and my impression was that the Thai people are very cool about it. They are happy that the tourists are coming back because many businesses closed during the pandemic. The attitude was very positive and chilled, nothing like in this video.
I'm in Bankok now and 99% of the people I've met don't like to talk about it, taxi drivers refuse to drive to cannabis stores and people say it can be a big problem to smoke it outside. Even though smoking cigarettes in bars is ok - cannabis is not. They are planning making it illegal again because of the tourists. Same thing in Amsterdam.

Well you can get addicted very easily to cannabis and get very passionate about it. If someone says a bad word about cannabis it seems to trigger a lot of people who feel the need to chastise other drugs as a coping mechanism and lie to themselves about how cannabis has all of these medical healing properties lmao
@Mathieu Sneyers that's cos they specifically looked for and interviewed these minorities who are anti cannabis. There are tons of other more credible sources providing unbiased reports if you look around. This is just pure fear mongering by CNA. Fear mongering is their forte.

Please don't say it is addictive. I'm 65 years old and have been smoking the majestic herb since I was 12. Many times, I haven't been able to get it, with no withdrawal symptoms.
When people say this i ask them what’s your longest break from the substance. 100 days? 200 days? A year ? 2 or more years? Most recreational users will say that their month or second month off proves they are not addicted then continually use their substance everyday or multiple times a week. Addiction can have lots of defintions and ultimately i think people use substances recreationally to mask mental health issues that have not been fixed their entire life. It’s a like a numbing feeling. Fasting can help people see themselves and their blind spots.

I think this is one of the poorest documentaries by CNA Insider in recent times: stinks of overt bias through the content and the presentation of it (as others have mentioned). Definitely not the way to approach controversial topics in my opinion. Regardless, most people watching this are not here to change their mind either way in the first place. For the sensible people around, I really hope people in positions of power will lean more towards health professionals and the science. Probably not going to happen of their own volition but may the people, as far as possible, hold them accountable for their actions and policies.
Anyone who thinks eating a few cannabis leaves is dangerous (especially a Dr.) need a serious reality check and some more education on this subject. The amount of THC in the leaves are almost nonexistent. Ontop of that you will wash it before you cook with it and get any extra tricomes off of it.
I just arrived in Bangkok yesterday. Came here first in 1982 at the age of 19. It's my first time back again even though I'm now 61, travelled to dozens of countries and it's now 2024. The people here are all so friendly and the city is amazing. Thailand and the Thai people are very special indeed!
A Singaporean man is expected to be hanged next week for abetting an attempt to smuggle cannabis into the city state, in a resumption of executions after a half-year pause, activists said on Thursday. The family of Tangaraju Suppiah, 46, was notified in a letter that he would be executed next Wednesday, anti-death penalty activist Kokila Annamalai said.
But why risk it when the law of the land is death, otherwise the laws will be ineffective. Why knowingly do something when the law states it's illegal. Why dance with law, when Singapore is known for strong enforcement 😢 and then say it's unfair when caught.
@@pringlessourcream9527 In the first place, do the laws even make sense? If the laws don't make sense, then you can't expect everyone to obey and follow.
This video does not plot the harm and addiction level of cannabis against cigarettes and alcohol. It would provide an accurate picture that those legal substances are far more damaging and addictive. (I am frequent visitor to Thailand but have never been tempted to try cannabis, but understand that it is less harmful than alcohol and cigarettes. In Singapore, a death penalty was just imposed on someone who smuggled in a bit of cannabis. Criminalizing this substance will bring more harm to society than decriminalizing.
People who want to use cannabis are going to use it despite being legal or illegal. It’s better to legalise it just like alcohol and cigarettes, so not only the cannabis users but also the government benefits from it.
Before smoking cannabis, I was a anxious mess of a young adult with no sense of direction. I drank too much and was scared to meet new people. After smoking cannabis, I exercised regularly, stopped being so anxious, and created a wonderful career. I become a millionaire and an artist. I became a more friendly person. And I've met hundreds of people who smoke cannabis. This idea saying that people's IQ will will be lowered or people are "overdosing" and dying from cannabis is absolutely ridiculous reefer-madness BS. Educating people on the how to consume cannabis safely is one thing, but pretending that it's a dangerous drug is ignorant. And it's even sillier when alcohol is far, far, more dangerous and deadly. Ban alcohol before banning cannabis.
Very informative documentary. One question: don't you think the increase in hospitalization is because now people feel safe to go to the hospital in the first place without getting prosecuted. Perhaps before the legalization the same amount of people consumed and experienced issues, but perhaps slept it off at home and didn't go to the hospital because they didn't feel safe to do so. I think it's very hard to see the direct correlation because the legal context has changed significantly.

Cannabis has more benefits than alcohol & tobacco, and needs to be treated exactly in the same manner. Thailand's decriminalization is on the right direction and should be lauded and looked at by other S.E. Asian nations in a positive manner, rather than negative. Recently, a man in Singapore was executed for smuggling cannabis. Which I find is a regressive judgement. Thailand is a progressive country with some of the world's loveliest people. They are sensible and the issues due to this new ruling will settle down shortly. With anything new, there is initial excitement and we humans tend to go overboard, but it will settle down.

But now your a stoner, working at a Contruction site. YAAH Man! HIGH FIVE!!
Cannabis is certainly less harmful than alcohol. It is everyones own responsibility if they want to consume it or not. Making a drug illegal doesn't stop people from taking it. Better to legalize it and focus on the root cause.. Let be thailand the first country to legalize it compleatly and the others will follow..
One of the major topics this documentary didn't report on is the drug addiction problem that Thailand (and its neighbouring countries) have been facing for many years. And what I mean by drug addiction isn't actually cannabis but is rather the meth/ice addiction/ecstacy addiction which are synthetic drugs and causes way more harm to its people. So by doing this the Thai government is trying its best to solve that issue. The subject of debate should really be the regulation of THC content thats allowed to be cultivated and sold - and just focus more on the medicinal properties of CBD. Because people can can most certainly get addicted, and it will definitely affect the grey matter at the frontal lobe of the brain and can cause psychosis (see Dr Andrew Huberman's) episode on the effects of Cannabis. I would advocate more on all governments to invest in rehabilitation programmes which is effective for society like the Narcotics Anonymous 12 step programme and curb the addiction disease. PS: the number one killer drug in this world is actually sugar & vegetable oils.(PUFA) And no major mainstream media is actually talking about it bcos.. big pharma.
You are correct the number one drug that destroys more lives than any is no other than sugar and the second is high starch vegetable oil just look at all of your packages that come from the store and you will find out that 70% of them contain added sugars in some type of form but they still sell sugar and the synthetic sugar compounds that they mix in other foods to boost the sales but that's illegal and marijuana isn't something's wrong with that picture
The reason sugar is legal is because in younger people it's beats them up a lot more giving them more energy to cause them to be able to do more work as long as they are keeping the energy level up therefore be governments are lining their pockets more than they would be with marijuana being illegal so they try to make marijuana illegal to make more money from it and sugar legal so they can make more money from it
Weed has helped me with depression. I got off it easily when I wanted to. It's better for me than alcohol because my body aches when I drink. I see it as an alcohol alternative. Just like alcohol, don't let minors or pregnant people use it, although some inevitably will.
all it does is make you feel okay without changing the circumstances that got you depressed. Think of it as a band aid. I've been using it for more than half my life and it came to the point that I better face my demons then smoke them away because that doesn't change anything, when a change is what you really need.
Growing up with Thai Buddha Sticks, dried cannabis plant wound around a bamboo stick, it dried brown and had an unforgettable aroma. the high was a clear headed happy high, found some of that strain growing off the coast of New Guinea, lovely cannabis, not too strong, enough to make cannabis fun.
The answer is education and sensible regulations. The problem Thailand (and many parts of Asia) has is the reactionary jump to follow the west's lead on many issues. The Cannabis ban in Thailand was done as a reaction to what the west was doing, because the west banned it Thais then banned it to be seen as a modernizing/westernized country. Then America legalized it and Thailand follows... The problem now is the centuries of common knowledge Thais had of its sensible use was lost when it was banned, now it has to be relearned and that will take time, but banning it outright again is not the answer.
@@earnningonline The information you know is wrong. Thais know that alcohol is very dangerous and most Thais don't like alcohol very much but there will be a small percentage of Thais who like alcohol a lot regardless of how dangerous alcohol is.

Meanwhile Singapore is still executing ppl for cannabis. While some of the dangers brought up in this documentary are true, the authors definitely show an outdated perception of cannabis based on fear. No doubt the plant has its downsides but adults also deserve the freedom to consume it if they decided to.
Problem with letting adults have the freedom to consume something is that there are some that don’t know when to stop. This can also be applied to alcohol. 1 beer isn’t a problem it’s what happens when certain adults consume too much of it. Who’s going to do the policing of that? Despite claims to the contrary, there is no conclusive evidence that cannabis is addictive, and there have been no reported deaths directly caused by its consumption. Meanwhile, alcohol and cigarettes are widely acknowledged as two of the most addictive substances in the world, and they are responsible for more deaths than any other drug or behavior. Despite this, they remain legal and socially acceptable in many parts of the world, leading some to question the fairness of current drug policies and the stigmatization of certain substances.

PS: the number one killer drug in this world is actually sugar & vegetable oils.(PUFA) And no major mainstream media is actually talking about it bcos.. big pharma.
Cannabis doesnt caused addiction?
You are correct the number one drug that destroys more lives than any is no other than sugar and the second is high starch vegetable oil just look at all of your packages that come from the store and you will find out that 70% of them contain added sugars in some type of form but they still sell sugar and the synthetic sugar compounds that they mix in other foods to boost the sales but that's illegal and marijuana isn't something's wrong with that picture
And sugar is far more addictive than any other drug but you see the government has it legal in all countries
The reason sugar is legal is because in younger people it's beats them up a lot more giving them more energy to cause them to be able to do more work as long as they are keeping the energy level up therefore be governments are lining their pockets more than they would be with marijuana being illegal so they try to make marijuana illegal to make more money from it and sugar legal so they can make more money from it
But the food and drug administration and these countries don't care about he dangerous sugar and what it does to people's lives
I bet this show was sponsored by the tobacco, alcohol , big pharma and sugar lobby.

Problem with letting adults have the freedom to consume something is that there are some that don’t know when to stop. This can also be applied to alcohol. 1 beer isn’t a problem it’s what happens when certain adults consume too much of it. Who’s going to do the policing of that? I have never state that you or anyone outside Singapore must stop smoking weed. I generally don’t care what you do in another country. I can respect that. But you I see are finding it difficult to accept that I don’t want cannabis to be made legal in my country.
@@gaoxiaen1 my point is simple. I never said to anyone that they should stop using marijuana. I just can’t agree to make it legal in my country for recreational purposes. I don’t see anything positive in doing that. If you smoke weed in your country that your choice. I didn’t say you must stop. It’s not my business.
How about make a documentary on alcohol addiction in Singapore, the worst drug in the world? Why this double standard?
Can you explain to me, with a straight face, using logical facts, how alcohol addiction is worse than heroin or meth addiction?
@@scaredmuffin6371 First of all we're not talking about hard drugs. I guess the problem is obvious. Those who are against cannabis never really bothered to check the facts. And second, a simple Google of 'harm caused by drugs' will enlighten you. *Spoiler alert* alcohol tops that list!!
@@dennislouis6069 wait wait wait, so now you're changing the goalposts so to speak and saying that Heroin and Meth aren't drugs...they're hard drugs. You are hilarious my man. So Alcohol is the worst of the non-hard drugs which is a list made by you. Bro you are killing me here haha
@@scaredmuffin6371 A simple suggestion given to you and you failed at that, to Google 'harm caused by drugs'. That shows you rather defend a narrative stuck in your head, however twisted it is rather than actually do some homework and be willing to change your story. Either ways, nice try with the goal post shifting. You mentioned heroin and meth without having any clue as to how they might make sense to this documentary. I offered to explain but I guess it's beyond your understanding
@@dennislouis6069 OK so alcohol is the 'worst' drug then. Why talk about alcohol on a cannabis video? It's very strange behaviour. You refuse to acknowledge Heroin and Meth addiction being more potentially devastating to a person than alcohol addiction, and you have the audacity to talk about double standards? wow!
Im in Koh Samui now and most people say its a more chill atmosphere after they legalized weed and less crazy drunk people.
After watching this video, I guess you guys in Singapore are even happy that you executed a guy for 1kg. This is total propaganda, the benefits of legalisation literally outweighs the cons. Where are the numbers, some research about the usage before and after legalisation in this video? Should we start putting kids to jail again, because it clearly sounds like it in this "documentary".
I still suffer from PTSD even today. But today my state allows both recreational and medical cannabis. As soon as medical cannabis was allowed medically, because of the serverity of my PTSD my doctors cleared me for the program. At the time there was no "actual Patient ID" my doctor gave me a letter(not on a hospital letterhead...but on his private pratice letterhead) that I could give to my street dealers that would give them a "get outta this dealing weed charge"if we got busted by cops...because they were selling to a Medical Patient. Years later I now have an actual card and am limited on the amount I can get in 60 days. But I know all the cannabis products I consume are tested from seed to sale and contaminated products almost never make it to the sales floor.
Despite this, they remain legal and socially acceptable in many parts of the world, leading some to question the fairness of current drug policies and the stigmatization of certain substances.
anything can be addictive
Outdated thinking, cannabis has been legal in Canada for a long time. We have large pharma industry deeply involved.
Then go canada for good W-men without day and night. 🥳
When I was out there in 95 you could get an ounce of Thai stick for 50 baht which was about £1...There were people trapped in Thailand because they had been caught smoking a joint but you would have to wait a year before it went to trail...They demanded stupid amounts of money to set u free and then deport you...I didn’t know it was legal..I’m 52 now and still smoking and plan to revisit Thailand soon so this is a bonus for me 👍

Thailand legalized it because of economic advantages, I think.
@8rick1ane the funny thing is prostitution is illegal in Thailand
@@vassanab4243 a lot of things are illegal
There wasn't a huge demand for legalising cannabis so when it came it came as a surprise to many people. Where then did the pressure come from to legalise cannabis? One clue is that just a few days after it became legal, many fully mature cannabis plantations popped up overnight as if by magic. Many of these plantations are owned by daughters and sons of politicians.
I dont know you're a thai or not, but theres definitely some ground for a very long time about legalization... Its not really a surprised per se, its just a surprise it was that swift with added economic initiative..
Yes, corruption is great in France too
That's how Thailand operates.
Yeah we noticed that. :)
There were some that had licenses before the legalization though.

In my late teens & 20s my friends and I would do shrooms, Isd, and ecstasy occasionally. Good times!
All were positive, fun, spiritual experiences. But, it's been decades. I don't know anyone who knows anyone who can get psychedelics from. I live in LA & there's a Kush store three blocks from my house, but I can't function alone on weed. I wish they sold psilocybin gummies. I'm a little depressed & a little anxious on a regular basis. I'm not a big drinker and I hate taking pills.
A bite or two of a chocolate bar, or a cup of mushroom tea everyday would be a godsent for me.

This dr is grossly ignorant. His continuing suggestion about death (“overdose”) of marijuana is laughable

Such dramatic music and narration for pretty innocuous drug. Who are they trying scare?
Exactly.... Absolutely negative reporting...
Everyone.
Just came back from Thailand a few days ago. Yes, there were lots of cannabis stores but almost always empty. Im not so sure its going to a big an issue as first though
I agree. I don’t think it has caught on main stream as people expected. I am sure that we will see fewer and fewer stores in no time. When something is no longer a taboo, it certainly loses some appeal. :)

There is no such thing as a physiological overdose to marijuana, be it CBD or THC. There can be a psychological reaction to be sure, due to underlying issues in very very few. Less who are arrested for it.
"An overdose on cannabis, is a good night's sleep". 😏😏😏
I'm willing to bet that when Thailand legalize marijuana that their crime rate dropped compared to what it was when it was illegal

Maybe just a panic attack
If its laced otherwise u have to smoke a HUGE amount to od in seconds or something. I think the only case of someone dying from weed is it falling ontop of somebody 😂😂😂

@@Satanhohoho the only way one can OD from weed is if one can smoke like a thousand pounds in an hour or something. In other words, it is not possible. Look it up.
It was probably some garbage that he bought in the street and sometimes the weed is sprayed on with chemicals to make it stronger.
I don't get why the author of this document called this a slippery slope? Do you really believe it is better to hide it and be criminalized for using it ? Like with everything new, it gets a lot of hype, Thailand just started so give them time and they will make it more appropriate and safe for consumers ( it is just 6 months since they started). There needs to be more education on the products and usage,I absolutely agree. The government needs to concentrate on safety first to make it a success and help Thai people create a sustainable business that will lift a lot of them out of poverty. As for addiction, everything in moderation we will always have those that overuse it! I live in the UK and believe me you can smell it on the streets and these are not 20-year-olds who smoke it but much younger. So I would appreciate less slamming and more direction on how to improve it to make it safe.

In Massachusetts, it is legal to grow 6 plants per household. More than you need for personal use in a year if you are responsible. It is a very good way to keep organized crime out of the picture and for you to regulate what chemicals and insecticides you are ingesting. It has already become an acceptable part of normal lifestyles and it is socially regulated in the same way alcohol is. The system is working very well. Thailand will take a little time to get over the overindulgence aspect as people socially learn more about it and what should be acceptable healthy behavior.
I'm also from Massachusetts. I thought it was 10 per household. Boston has quite a few cannabis shops within walking distance. ( AYR, MedMen, Ascend etc).

IMO, you should do a follow up story about what’s going on upcountry and rural areas. Pretty much everyone besides foreigners are priced out of any of the dangerous aspects of its decriminalization. Strong stuff and edibles are expensive and inaccessible for the average rural thai. Pretty much every household I’ve been to has some really beginner home grown of unknown species that is extremely weak. I think in general that scientist doing the medical discovery and administration and kitty are on the right track.
I believe it is correct that young people should not be using the herb with a high THC content but there are many strains with low THC content sat high-cbd contents that are very beneficial for many medical problems
You may also wish to check sales of alcohol and cigarettes in Thailand. I haven’t yet. But I suspect it’s gone down. With no alcohol being abused crime will automatically go down. Grow up raffles slaves.
