I looked at both cameras in the shop and decided to go for A6700, it came down to price, for the extra money and what I use the camera for, it wasn’t worth getting the A7c2. I’m not a pro photographer, just enjoy taking photos when walking around. Love the camera though, it’s amazing

I didn't buy the A6700 to save money.
I bought it to save weight and bulk, both on camera and lenses.
Crop sensors are not objectively worse than full frame lenses, it depends what you want, and what lenses you buy.

This is one of the best camera comparisons I have ever seen. The explanation, videos and photos you have taken are god-tier! Especially the shot with the Porsche on the Ice and the snowy mountain background. Almost looks like a Porsche poster. Wow!

I went for the a7cII because I think it will pay off in the long run (I do photography mostly, videos…what are those?). I like the idea of having such a compact full frame sensor and for night photography is so great! I had a sony rx100vii to which was a tiny little beast and I decided to step it up to full frame. But if I could go back in time (or my suggestion to anyone who wants to have a solid first step into photography) is the a6700 for sure!
(Also btw check the prices. In my country Switzerland the difference in price between the two was not so great, weird!)

One thing that it wasnt mentioned in the video is that A7CII has only electronic shutter and Electronic-First Curtain Shutter (meanwhile A6700 is equipped with full mechanical shutter and others).

Founded your 2 videos about cameras. Previously owned a Canon 6D and long time ago a Nikon 3100-3200 version. I am designer and always loved a photography and video editing. On my Unsplash account I have over 7+ Million views and mostly pictures was taken on my iPhone 11 Pro. I always dreamed about a camera to take photos and film some videos but never got into this purchase serious. You made my understandings easier about camera comparison, quality and budget. I will try probably A6700 for now and see how it will work. It will be enough for now. Thank you so much for this information. You helped me a lot to understand the Sony Market (I always dreamed about A7s3 or latest versions) but my budget is not that big and I am not doing very professional photos (it's not my job) so I don't see a point investing so much just for a camera to travel and take images and upload them on Unsplash for memories :) Thanks again!

Great video. I love the blind comparison, but would really appreciate if you used equivalent depth of field as well as focal lengths/colors, or if you just mixed up which side was which camera. The first photo in your blind compare series had a much shallower depth of field on the left than the right, which is usually a giveaway that it is the full-frame. DOF is obviously a potential advantage of full frame over aps-c, but a lot of people will be able to afford the a6700 with a f/1.4 aps-c lens for the same price as an a7cii with a f/1.8 or f/2 lens, and often even less money (e.g., a6700 + sigma f/1.4 series lens is cheaper than a7cii with sigma f/2 series lens). So it'd be nice to see a compare where the effective apertures are the same.

Very entertaining video, thank-you. As a fellow Sony fan-boy, I currently have the A7R4 and A6700 for my expensive hobby. Many folks criticised the A6700 when it was released for being as bulky as a full-frame camera (compared to say the NEX-7 or A6000). But, as you pointed out, it costs much less and still performs outstandingly well. Personally I like a body with a bit of weight (cameras, not people) and find I'm using the A6700 more than the A6600 it replaced (kudos to Sony for moving up to a full-frame battery)..
You're right, Sony's decision to make all NEX lenses work on all bodies, regardless of sensor size was inspired. APS-C lenses can be a lot lighter and the A6700 with 16-55/2.8 APS-C G-Master lens is a killer combination and (relatively) small & light - if i want truly small & light, I use an RX-100..
As for dual SD card slots - I don't think space is an issue, more to do with not impinging on their higher priced cameras - we're already getting a lot of that tasty up-marker tech in the colour-science, autofocus and image processing on these 'enthusiast' cameras, we mustn't be greedy. That said, I wouldn't want to shoot a wedding with a singe card-slot - it would be like going back to film!!
Keep up the good work my friend. your country's scenery is outstandingly beautiful and you clearly have an eye for beauty..

Size matters!!! As a constant international traveler my sony a6700 with 3-4 lenses (all tiny apsc sized) all fit into a tiny sling bag that I can easily carry. My lenses give me a range from 10mm to 527mm (full frame equivalent). I also use an RX100 vii which is fantasticl in image quality (and this entire camera fits in the palm of my hand including the built-in zoom lens). For more rugged work I bring a Tough V which is waterproof. But ALL of these cameras are tiny. I just got back from a cruise to the antarctica and shot with guys with enormous full frame lenses. Of course the zoom ranges of full frame that extend beyond 527mm are going to give you better shots at a distance, but at an enormous cost of weight and size. Some of these lenses approach 3 feet :). Even the apsc camera is at times too big and in many countries travelers with obvious cameras will be robbed (no question). Size apparently matters enormously to all of us…what camera do you commonly take with you to parties, the city, etc.? Your cell phone! Or at most a tiny palm-sized camera. I don’t see people regularly walking around with big cameras! The camera that you use is the most useful camera you have :). I love your videos, but again, it is NOT the cost for me, but the quality and convenience of the smaller apsc camera and lens that appeals to me the most. :) :)

I have the A6700 but I'm thinking than the price and weight difference (body and lenses) between APS-C and Full Frame, Full frame doesn't worth it.
I thinkFull Frame is irreplaceable if you want an ultra-ultra wide angle. With the Brighting star 9mm, you have the widest view that you can have on full frame without deformation. We need a 6mm 0-deformation on APS-C.

    Correction:
A6700 in 4k 120fps video is giving additional 1.58 crop on top of 1.5 apsc crop. The 4k 120fps is not over or subsampled, it is just 1 to 1 readout from small part of the sensor.
It is actually a great achievement as readout speed for 120fps video must be 8ms.

@@Senjak026 Their low light performance in my opinion is not that much different but I think the nod goes to the A7CII IF you have the fast glass to support it. The good fast primes on the A6700 are smaller and cheaper than the full frame version on the A7CII but both have excellent f/1.4 primes you will just have to pay more for the full frame versions and they will typically be bigger and heavier. Figure out the price of your kit for both to help decide. Take care.

The APS-C camera has no OLPF (Sony specifications) and Sony is mystical about the OLPF in the case of the A7C II. The difference between OLPF or not can be dramatic and not only in gained sharpness due to its absence. Absence would give you more colour space, dynamic range, contrast envelope, contour sharpness, low light sensitivity, and probably less vignetting. But it complicates raw processing and with inadequate raw processing software you get a bit more Bayer noise in the darker image areas as well as the blurred areas. By the way, dynamic range would not follow from a processor but lives in the sensor to begin with. The sensor being analogue (and colour blind), somewhere the analogue exposure values are converted into digital and that - today likely - also happens in the sensor. Moore's Law. So, if the FF camera has an OLPF then you cannot draw any conclusion about the impact of the size. Image quality differences following from MP are generally marginal, but the impact of removing the OLPF is 'shocking'.

But how does it look on FF sensors without the apsc mode on? Is it like the Sony 10-18 F4 that you can basically use on FF as well despite it being an apsc lens?

No dual card slot😂 these days people are spoilt! Try doing weddings on film with no preview and no dual film cameras. That’s what photographers had to do and I’m glad, it taught me a lot. Mind you, I’ve still to find someone who has lost an important shoot because of card failure, the other 99% of you don’t need it anyway. I often come home with less than 20 photos taken because I was taught to make every picture count. It’s not hard to get a good pic by firing off 20 fps shutters.

WOW! What a timely video. I was just thinking about this comparison. I just bought the a7Cii for video & backup, as well as, my travel camera to my main a7RV. A few things to note about the A7Cii: IMO, the aesthetics on the A7Cii (silver) is really nice, Sony added the "AI" processing that greatly helps AWB which improves colors & skin tones (A7iv skin tones aren't as good).

A7CII is a great choice :) I really like that camera, and as you said it's like the a7iv but better. The only thing is lack of 2 sd cards, and some poeple don't like the smaller VF. But I like the small body, and the aesthetics is really nice indeed!

Great video my friend - super original!! Couple things you missed is A7Cii has S-Cinetone which is an amazing picture profile, also shoots in 6K downsampled to very sharp 4K video due to its 33mp resolution. Also the new AI chip has that auto-framing feature that can follow you around like a cameraman. Better in low-light too. Can add LUTS easily and an amazing new menu ! Love your style!!!!! 📸

Upgraded to the old(!) A7C and I'm loving it. Rocked APSC 8 years, and I msut say the difference is VAST.
I was always convinced the difference is minimal and at the end of the day, a good photo is not determined by the sensor size.
Still I made the jump out of curiosity, going into FF knowing full well that its not much different -> Just like your comparison pictures show, they are VERY similiar.
-> I was very happy to find out, that the FF offers MUCH better image quality. I had the Sigma 1.4 primes on APSC and switched to cheaper Samyang 1.8 primes on FF and it is vastly sharper. I now understand when reviewers talk about "sharpest lens ever", cause now I can actually see differences in lenses. Added that the LOW LIGHT performance is much more than 1-stop which is always mentioned. ISO25600 looks better than ISO6400 on my A6000. This can't really be seen on a compressed TH-cam video.
That said, I think a lot of this also comes from newer sensor technology and not just APSC vs FF. Still, the a6400 had the very same IQ as the a6000. Didn't properly try the a6700 which now has BSI sensor, BUT had back to back test with it, which still looked the same. Add the fact that the a6700 actually costs 400 bucks more than an A7C. Also no weight/size advantage.

      @jumpmansz 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Yeah as much as I and everyone else roots for the differences to be minimal, I went from the a6600 to a7iv and the difference feels huge. I will say the extra battery life of the apsc is one advantage I really miss.

This video made my life more difficult :) .. (not in a bad way) .. I'm a life long Pentax user (this means I am in my mid 50s). As I am getting older, I am getting more sore, and want to lighten my load when hiking, walking, etc... My Pentax K-3 iii has been a dream camera but it is also heavy .. Since Pentax jumped out of the mirrorless game after the K-01 I am left with no choice but to change my ecosystem (and it will NOT be canon). Budget is important, but not a deal breaker (well, there "is" a budget, because if not I'd go with the Hasselblad X2D. Video is obviously NOT a concern for me). The A66700 just looks to be the more economical choice, but after owning the Pentax K-1 ii, I am a sucker for a big sensor, and I'm still hurting from buying lenses that can handle the full frame sensor.
I fired up a few camera outlets, and will do some math shopping to figure out what I can get with out catching my wallet on fire.
Thank you for the video, great job with the side by side images and video.

The grip differs between those two more than I thought: I had an a6700 for some time and wanted to switch to a7cII. Only to notice that they reduced the grip size. My smallish hands could hold the a6700 well. The a7cii however is built for about 1 to 1.5 cm shorter fingers. Why didn't they just keep the a6700 grip 😒

For "normies" the A6700 would be always the better choice I guess. Sure full frame gives you better low light performance and more bokeh, but normal people usually don't take a lot of pictures as soon the sun goes down. Most of them disapear behind some screens or settle down on a couch in front of a screen instead of taking pictures in the dark :D
It's only camera nerds like us, who think they "need" full frame for xyz - and I fall victim to this myself :')
APSc in general can rival full frame even in looks, if you have the correct lens (like f1.2 which would also be big). And people do find APSc might be enough, I mean look at Fujifilm sales :)

even apsc f1.2 lenses are much smaller than full frame equivalents. fujifilm F1 lenses are about the same sizes as their full frame F1.4 equivalents. I think APSC can totally be a better choice for anyone looking to bring their cameras everywhere with them.

I have used A6700 since release and shoot video often with it. It never overheats on me after the first firmware update which came out within a month after release. I shoot short clips 4K24p and some 4K60p/120 in between if needed. I live in Thailand and if you are not sure it's really really really hot here and we only get like a week of winter in a year. If you plan to shoot long form video 4K60p or 120p then dont buy this one. If you are shooting 4k24p....dont worry about the overheat issue. It goes well above 1.30-2 hours and the battery might even die first.

  • @scstudios8
    @scstudios8 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

In the end, shooting 50mm f1.4 on FF just cannot be done on APS-c due to lenses not being at stupidly wide apertures. Its really about the lenses and depth of field you can get for each format. If you are in the aperture range that they both do, matched to relative aperture, then there isnt really much difference. Overall FF just looks amazing. Its like easier to get unreal results. APS-C can help in low light when you do not want shallow depth of field because it wont give you that at the same exact aperture for the FOV. So, the math is easy to understand. In the end, the FF usually do everything better, but the cost of the lenses may be more. Also, the Sigma 24-70mm f2.8 is the deal of the century, so go FF.

With APS-c you can fit a 18-50 F2.8, a 70-350mm and a 13mm F1.4 all into a small messenger bag that weighs less than 2KG, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to glass you can easily take with you unencumbered.
You can blow up the pictures to about the size of a 70" TV before noticing any loss of IQ and blow out backgrounds with F0.95 glass if you wish. So when you show literally anyone your pictures they not only can't tell, but they also don't give a shit if you spend 3 times the amount on Full Frame glass.
