Hi Pete, that’s a really good demonstration on stencils, it’s kind of making me want a stencil cutter as well. As you say there are so many people that offers pre cut with TH-cam logos with there name etc… they seem really popular at the moment. Cheers mate hope your enjoying your Easter! See you in the next one
Hi Steve, I just wanted to get across stuff that would help people just do a one-off thing at home as they are stuck with whatever they can buy. Thanks mate, happy easter 🐣 👍
Hi Karl, It should be fine. It depends on temperature. The colder it gets, the more chances of a reaction simply because the lacquer stays wetter longer, don't think you'll have any problems though
Hi Scott, Yes, that's where I got mine from, It's more expensive than vinyl but not expensive in the scheme of things, the biggest problem is no one seems to sell these ready cut on Etsy and Ebay so if you haven't got a cutter vinyl is easier to get hold of vinyl decals. Something suggested on here that a very thin coating of basecoat left to dry help if you use vinyl gives it less stick apparently so might help people, I'm going to try it and see, cheers mate, hope your well 👍
Little tip here. If you have normal vinyl it pays off putting a verry fine mist on it with paint.(verry fine!!) To reduce stick.. I use stencils quite offten. And propper stencil material is certainly nice. Be sure when you mist it down to let the paint dry before sticking it on youre project! 😂 And do some tests.. so youre sure you dont over do it and blow the stencil up when you spray the decals...😊 Another nice one pete. Keep it up. I love to watch these movies. If you need help making a stencil. I might be able to help out. (Not allways) but i can help draw some up and send yiu the files if needed. ( have a certain assortment build up over the years).
Hi Jeffrey, I'll have to give that a try when I first read what you said. I thought, surely not, but it makes sense as it would make the "tack" less, I'll certainly give it a go 👍 Thanks for the offer, I'll keep it in mind if I get stuck. Hopefully, you'll be able to sort me out. I use mylar stencils as well with little magnets. They give a different look with softer edges, which has its place, but not if you're trying to replicate factory stuff. I'm glad you like the videos, I really enjoy making them, as I mainly do bike stuff. People often ask me about decals. It is normally the simple things that hopefully are covered in this video, so it should help someone with the basics. Cheers, Jeffrey 👍
@@peteshobbies5383 i have a silluette cameo with silluette studio business edition. It surely pays off doing that upgrade Talking about replicating fatory logos and all. I mainly do rc boats. Loads of people ask me various designs of wich 90% wants decals like factory race teams and such.
I'm still on the basic free version, which seems to be doing what I want for the best part, I probably will upgrade, it's a one off cost as I understand it so no ongoing outlay which would suit me. I've been doing some print and cut which wasn't going well at the start but I'm fine with it now, it was too much light on glossy vinyl so the Cameo wasn't finding the registration marks, some matte tape work perfectly but so too does covering the machine so no light gets into the blade area which means no reflection, once it's found the marks it's away 😁
@@peteshobbies5383 i didnt try the print and cut yet. I do a lot of trace work. And loads of logos you can find vector images off wich sometimes dont need to be traced at all. The upgrade versions are indeed a 1x deal. And there are a lot of extra functions on it. With various tracing options and ways to select lines witch to cut and what tool and what not. If you need something of a logo of a brand name. I have some various ones for various bikes and such.
Thanks, Mark, It's something I did think about but not for long, it's really handy be able to cut my own though, I'd been after a cutter for ages but had to upgrade my pc to run it and was spending all my money on spray guns 🤣, still all sorted now, cheers mate 👍
Hi Pete, I need to spray only two coats of 2k scratch-resistant acrylic clearcoat (2:1 volume catalysis ratio + 10% acrylic thinner) over the 20 years old original OEM clearcoat of a Volkswagen Golf roof to increase its actual thickness. Which grit of sandpaper do you recommend to use in this case, before I spray, to have the optimal adhesion and in any case at least equal to that guaranteed by the factory? A P800, P1000, P1200, P1500 or a P2000? Or alternatively could I sand with an ultrafine gray scotch brite? Thank you so much for your very helpful advices!
Hi Massimo, I would use a P400 then a P800, nothing finer, the clear coat will easily cover the pig tail marks made by the sander and give good adhesion, be careful as the clear coat on the car is only thin and you don't want to go through to the primer
Hi Pete that was a very interesting video mate as I've never used a decal or any type of stencil making it hard for me to understand what you and others do with these reverse stencil so this has made it a lot clearer to understand👍 I've seen Rob Dred-FX use some stencils where he is able to use different colours on different parts of the stencil and also apply a black outline to letters but I have no idea how he does it🤯😅 Huge thanks for doing this video Pete👏cheers mate👌👍
Hi John, there are loads you can do, I was trying to keep it simple so someone who can only buy stuff online ready made can have a go at painting stencils without too much equipment. That is why I used the Gti Pro Lite as an airbrush cause you don't need an airbrush for most stuff like this. It's good to have, but it is not essential. You can do quite a lot with a plotter, including printing and cutting to make vinyl decals. You can put an undercut around decals, so it cuts a distant you set around, so you can then put dark edges around the letters etc. I'm more interested in getting oem type decals as your own cutter gives you much more control of sizing etc, in fact I'm about to order some t-shirts and some HTV vinyl and make a few with my new logo 😂 Cheers John 👍, PS, how did the wow 2025 go?
Yeah I can imagine the possibilities are almost endless as to what you can do with a plotter plus there must be upgrades you could make to the hardware and software🤔 I've never seen HTV Vinyl (sounds like a TV channel😁) but it would be cool to start doing your logo on t-shirts, you will be able to have your own merch range, I assume you could do tea/coffee mugs as well🤓😎 I tried the 2025 mixed as a WoW yesterday, even though I mixed more than I usually need there wasn't really enough for one panel but I got a thin coat on which seemed ok just have to see if there is any shrinkage/dieback, have to say though mate it went on ok and was easy to nib plus the 3 stage base laid down over it quite nice, I'll be doing the clearcoat tomorrow👍 Just got back from the vets again but it's not good news for our dog, she is suffering from liver failure and now the whites of her eyes have a yellow tint to them which is not good, the vet has put her on steroids to give her a boost and tablets and a special drink to flush her liver out, have to go back Tuesday but it's just a matter of time now😥😢👍
I'm sorry to hear about your little dog. It's a shame , at least you're making her as comfortable as possible, mate, and trying what you can. They are one of the family with the times and memories that got with it. Hopefully, she's not suffering too much. Hopefully, you'll get time to get the clear on tomorrow and see how it looks. Cheers, John 👍
Yeah thanks Pete, I'm confident she is not in any pain or suffering as I couldn't bear it if she was, she spends a lot of time laying with Sonia on her recliner, lets hope the new meds help so far it's cost almost £800 but she is worth every penny🥰🤗 I'm hoping to get the clearcoat done in the morning, I'll be using the MM2 with the Churchill fast hardener and have to say that hardener with the MM2 is a really nice combo, I'll be posting it up tomorrow afternoon mate👍
Ok mate, looking forward to it, BTW I picked up a HV30 cap for the Pro Lites, I had one 3 or 4 years ago but couldn't really use it, the 50lt compressor would only last a few seconds, only got it today but current set up is miles better so handles it with ease, cheers John 👍
Thanks for the information
Thanks, buddy, much appreciated 👍
