Interesting to see a battle between two different systems below - Scroth and Somatics! I simply quote a well-known violinist and violin teacher. "If your teacher tells you there is only one way to do something...find another teacher!" There is a certain philosophical adage, namely that there are THREE GOOD ways of doing anything!

I definitely feel that my tight muscles contribute to how bad my scoliosis looks and feels. Yoga helps a lot and also exercising to get the blood flow to all those muscle. It’s about maintenance. I’ve been thinking for a while now that I could get my spine straighter and the curve that I have (c-curve) is just residue of when is was more curved. It was s-curved. I think also partly the reason that it got better is that my family opted to go to a chiropractor and non- traditional treatments for scoliosis. I really appreciate how you put my theory into medical terms and backed it up with science and statistics. Thank you for spreading your knowledge.

This video was recently brought to my attention and I felt immediately compelled to comment, in order to safeguard parents and patients from some of the erroneous medical statements here.
I am a member of the Scoliosis Research Society and SOSORT, a Schroth certified physical therapist, and huge patient advocate for education.
First, Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis still does not have a well identified known cause, but we actually DO know alot. It is NOT caused by tight muscles, poor posture, or backpacks. It is a multi-factorial disease that impacts the growth of discs, joint structures, and bones of the spine. It IS a structural issue. We know it starts in the discs and joints and moves into the bones. The growth becomes asymetrical, thus changing the shape of the structures to a wedge shape. This wedge shape then has a different biomechanical movement pattern based on physics/geometry. A wedge shape cannot bend purely in 1 direction but must now couple with rotation. Thus the classic Forward Bending Test or Adams Test used to screen for scoliosis. When you bend forward the now wedge shaped structures in the thoracic spine cause the connected ribs to rotate and a measurable prominence results. The Scoliometer is used to measure this rotation.
One of the most misleading concepts for patients with scoliosis is that the protruding body segment is "tight muscles" when in fact it is the physical rotation of the vertebral bodies that is present in scoliosis, a 3-Dimensional change in the spine, NOT just lateral.
Bracing and Physiotherapeutic Scoliosis Specific Exercises are the 2 research based treatments that impact this structurally. Vitamin D has also been recently studied as impacting the biochemistry of this condition and progression risk. The main problem with current treatment for AIS is that we have no known predictors for who will be small, medium or large curves that require surgery. Research continues to drive forward to better understand the multi causes, predictors and treatment parameters.
Lastly, there are several key additional medical conditions that SHOULD be a part of any child, teen, adult medical evaluation BEFORE exercising!!!!! For example, the high % of people with joint hypermobility, muscles and structures are TOO loose, not tight, or tethered spinal cords.
PLEASE, seek proper medical evaluation and treatment for this condition.

Hi ! I am a 16 year old girl from Romania. I have been doing the schroth therapy for more than 2 years by now and in the first year my curve went from a 54-56° to 35-40°. It really is a life saver. No doctor or surgeon trusted me or the people that helped me. I was basically going to go and schedule my surgery a week after I found out about this therapy. It is kinda new to the "market" and not many people know about it. Now I am still wearing my brace and I still to exercises 2 times a week even though I should be doing them 5-7 times a week (I am very busy with school). I do them at home and with my physical therapists. I am not planning on getting the surgery any time soon. It's sad that this therapy doesn't get the credit that it deserves.

Elisabetta Diac so you’re 16 and your scoliosis curve decreased!!! I’m so happy to hear that cause I’m 16 too but my doctor told me that it’s to late for my curve to decrease

    • @Stephanie-vv1tx
      @Stephanie-vv1tx 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@iiitsnoor It's not too late at all! This is the best time for you to decrease you curve! I'm not a doctor, but have looked into a lot of clinics that help and they all say people your age can reduce their curves! Take a look at something like the Clear Scoliosis Reduction Center in Clearwater, FL. I am not advocating for this clinic in particular, but just to show there are places out there that can help. This one is expensive, but I think there are other options. Also take a look at Schroth and find an experienced therapist. I think the key is understanding what exercises you need to perform for your curve and really sticking with them.

@@EternaLivesMatter Yes, this worked for me personally, here's my story. In my childhood, I noticed that my fingers were crooked. I was diagnosed with scoliosis-lorrdosis when I was 12(around the end of 2014). I was given classic Physical therapy, which helped a bit, but I wasn't that motivated, ya know, it didn't help that much. I more or less quit for a few years.
Come junior year of high school, I hit my growth spurt and my back would hurt like hell all the time. I battled with it, and did generic PT for a year/year and a half.
Come winter break of my senior year, I was browsing youtube and I found this guy as my heart skipped a beat, it was too good to be true.
Well, one of my friends who was a massage therapist, told me countless times when I showed it to her, "No, you can't cure scoliosis. The only way you can cure it-surgery. This guy doesn't know what he's talking about."
I ignored her, figuring, what do I have to lose?
Well, it worked! I had moderate to severe Scoliosis a year ago, and my spine is more or less normal now. I can't thank this guy enough times and I'm much happier and healthier now.

Growing up without regular exercize and without stretching and slouching forward on a sofa/sedentary lifestyle during childhood formative years and eating junk food, lack of nutrition altogether these factors are the cause of scoliosis in most cases. Psychology plays a role too as to why some kids cary themselves poorly.

Not true. My aunt and I both have severe scoliosis that required surgery. I had my surgery at 12 for severe S scoliosis. My aunt had surgery in her mid-20s for severe C scoliosis. I also knew another girl who had severe C scoliosis. All of us were very active and ate healthy. This was back in the 70's and 80's when most people were active and ate healthy. We were all of a normal and were more on the thin side. If what you said was true, we would have A LOT more people coming into doctor's offices with scoliosis. Everyone should have an active lifestyle and eat healthy. Not doing this can cause a lot of health issues like obesity, diabetes, cardiac issues, etc., but scoliosis is not one of them.
