I grew up near Philly and was a die-hard Flyers fan. I moved away from the area in ‘85, but remained a huge Flyers fan. I don’t know what motivated me to look up the tributes to Pelle tonight, but even 34 years on it still breaks my heart. Thank you Pelle, for your incredible contribution to my childhood.
If he did not die in the November 10, 1985 Car Accident from what i heard, The Flyers would have been Stanley Cup Champions of 1986 and maybe even 1987
@cjwoot I can't believe it's 25 years! The only time I was ever ashamed to be a Rangers fan (other than when they brought Glen Sather in) was the first time Philli came to MSG. Hextall was in goal and the crowd chanted "Drive a Porsche Hextall. Drive a Porsche!" Even at age 17, I knew that was classless. I do remember John davidson being completely disgusted with the chant and was genuinely embarassed.
Being an American, my second favorite National team is Sweden because of #31. Thank you Mr. Lindbergh for being not just my favorite Flyer next to Mark Recchi, but because you were such a genuine person who loved his teammates He always had humility, never taking full credit for their success. The little Swede who played like a giant. I will remember his boyish charm and beautiful smile. Gone, but never forgotten. He is the greatest Swedish born goaltender next to Henrik Lundquist. The Flyers need to officially retire his number even though no one dare wear it again.

I'm a Rangers fan and I feel the same way. Truly disgusting gesture by some MSG fans.
its been 28 years since he died… so sad.. flyers world misses you pelle!
@tylerdurdonxx Agreed. Though they have not officially retired his number (yet), they have not issued it since, out of respect for Pelle.
I remember it like it was yesterday. Very very sad!!
@tylerdurdonxx I totally agree with you on that one.
His number I think has been unofficially retired. Has anyone else ever worn 31 after him? I can't think of any.
No
