Pelle Lindbergh was a Swedish professional ice hockey goaltender who played five seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League. He was the first European-born goaltender to be drafted in the NHL Entry Draft and the first to achieve success in North America.
It was early in the morning on November 10 when Pelle Lindbergh left the nightclub. He had two companions in his red Porsche. The combination of a car far too fast for regular streets and alcohol in his blood proved to be a deadly combination. At 5:37am, Lindbergh misjudged a light curve on Summerdale Road in New Jersey and crashed his car against a massive white wall. The impact was fatal.

Wow! I am one of Pelle's biggest fans and have never seen anything like this before. Totally stumbled on this video. Absolutely gut-wrenching to watch. His car actually did not hit the corner of the wall, but where the opening for the stairs are further around the bend. You can see it on the Google Street View. Not sure how accurate some of the other stuff in the video is (I've never read that he blew through a stop sign along that route). But the video is still interesting. The car looks like an exact match.

And it’s still there even though the school has been closed for years. I just visited the site today as I was in the area.
I grew up in Philadelphia and was and still am a huge Flyers fan. pelle was poised to be the best goal tender since Bernie Parent and his death really cast a pall over the entire city for quite some time
Those 930 turbos are very very easy to crash. You have to be a highly experienced driver that actually drives one of those often. My dad's friend has one and it's a very unforgiving car.
Growing up in Philly, I remember when this happened. One observation from watching these reenactments is that Porsche is a death trap. Great videos!

Pelle was my idol when I was a kid #31, I remember this day like it was yesterday. I own a Porsche 903 slantnose M505 like Pelle did, cool cars. Drinking and driving is a bad combo. According to friends, Pelle liked to drive fast, too fast.. He was a brilliant goalie and on his way to be one of the greatest of all time.. Sad..
He lived down the street from me in kings grant. My older brother idolized him and used to go see him often. He would allow my brother to wear his mask and always made time for his small talk.

I am from NY but grew up a Flyers fan since 1976. I finally got the chance to go to a Flyers game in Philadelphia and that was the night he had his fatal car crash. 😢

Well, the 930 was nicknamed the "Windowmaker" and a car notorious by this name by 1985... Although, understeering one-self to death in one, wasn't usual style to win a Darwin Award with one, but rather snap oversteer when the turbo lag finally faded and the boost kicked in hard and because the chassis was unstable (why the CTR Yellowbird is actually on a different chassis, even if it is a turbo more solid and predictable, QED.) He was going insanely fast to piledrive a 930 that hard, the car is a tank in the front... No fire, despite the gas tank being there.

He crashed to wall, went airbone and thon got disrembered by the fence.

In the grandstand seats

Actualy we should be gratefull that there is no know footage of the crash
these videos are great. sometime i feel the drunk drivers deserve it. they could have killed others on the road too, but thankfully only themselves in this case. very selfish.

Being a star hockey, football or baseball player...has nothing to do with driving a sportscar properly.......nothing at all. Same thing with doctors flying high performance planes........they gonna crash. NEVER fly in a private plane with a doctor at the controls......especially in bad weather....

I checked the old news. The passengers lived despite not wearing their seatbelts, which is amazing IMO.
@@chumanho thanks👍 I agree, unbelievable they survived this without wearing seatbelts. Safety was different in the 80s, to what it is now. Looks like Pelle, took the full force of the impact on the driver side; waste of a life.
Flyers were off to like a 12-1 start. They had the best team in the league. They would have won the cup.

This is a mod, and the game still thinks the engine is in the front and not in the rear. Thats why the front is smoking after the crash.

So this is why I choose the more safer betted Porsches like the AWD variants like th 911 Turbo S or the RWD if so Gt3 but even then he made a big mistake in that older 911 they are hard to control when they slide out or get into a rear tussle. Man he litterly hit the wall in the most worst possible way that you can into its Apex V corner ugh the worst way
His was was an '84 930 S (911 Turbo) - what are you talking about? Porsche weren't even making them standard with AWD then...

I would strongly recommend doing an episode on " Susurluk Accident ". It is one of the most famous accidents and many conspiracies are told about it. To some conspiracies, all of middle east warzone has been affected by this accident.

Sympathy drops to zero when drink driving is the cause. Don't care he was an outstanding young goalie. He could easily have killed his passengers or any other road users.
