I remember when this video came out. It was so random (Cheap Trick doing an Elvis song during the height of 80s hair metal).

I just revisited that Travis Tritt version of Burnin' Love and Ya - you are correct . . . .this IS the best ever Elvis cover outside of Andy Kaufman {rip}
and "technically" , on that album , Robin may have sang {however serendipicially } 'better' on "The Flame", and he did so over the years on quite a few cheezy songs that went nowhere for them. But this was their most "polished" album ever production and engineering- wise . . . . . . and Zanders sounded twice as natural as the King himself from start to end. It's one thing to out-copy a legend . . . .but it is quite another to out-character them. But he did here.
By now well over thirty years later, this cover STILL ROCKS!
when i see this video i can remember being a teen, staring at MTV and could not wait for the newest videos. this was the 2nd from Lap of Luxury and it was all over MTV. so much fun!

Cheap Trick had a knack for taking an original song, extracting what was good about it then mixing it with what Cheap Trick did well.
I also think that UB40 cover of "Falling in love with you" is the best too

I honestly believe Elvis would have approved of this. It was new rockabilly circa 1988, a year that had a lot of good songs came out.
Elvis would have been the first to applaud and maybe would have had a solo during the performance. OMG I absolutely love❤ this video. I turned 79 on July 1 and still rock out to these absolutely fabulous groups. 🐱

I remember seeing this song on Mtv. It was really something. A nice remake, kinda like quiet drive's remake of time after time. CTs guitarist Rick Nielsen is one of the GOATs.
So true. Rick and all the others are spectacular musicians. A fan since they started, I've always said Cheap Trick has to be one of the most underappreciated bands of all time... and, of course, well within the "GOAT" realm.

I saw these guys play outdoors on the Maine State pier in 2015 and they were fabulous... I also saw a lot of gorgeous women my age who reminded me of all the cuties who never dated me in high school when this music came out....🤣😂

@@hellsunicorn I bought a Technics Hi-Fi system with separate CD player in November 1988.The system was £300 and the CD was £170.My weekly wage was £140 with an extra £40 for Saturday or Sunday or £80 for both.I have used the Technics almost daily for nearly 33 years....and it still sounds great.I got to chose two free CD's from the Hi-Fi Dealer(who are still trading),and chose '...and justice for all' by Metallica and 'Hysteria' by Def Leppard....Regards,Starman.

Rick Nielson,their guitar player,is 75 today-this cover of Elvis' Don't Be Cruel and the cover of Fats Domino's Ain't that a Shame[also done by them],are two of the greatest covers ever.Rick co-owns a pizza parlor in Chicago and has a massive guitar collection[he owned 500 in 2018].I've seen him at the Mecum car auction throwing guitar picks to the crowd.

I was a little late to the party with Cheap Trick. I came aboard with Lap of Luxury album. Then had a blast backtracking their previous work to the 70's. This band was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2016. Well deserved!

My mum and dad's song, has so much more meaning after being played at dad's funeral, whenever I feel sad I just come right back here and look at that drummer with the dart in his mouth, reminds me of dad so much, rock on

Impossible task, to redo a Presley song and actually near the electricity that was Elvis. Cheap Trick did just that. Wonderful rendition. I like also how the video calls back to the time Elvis sang this song with the diner theme. Yep, outstanding.
