My biggest mistake has always been not being detailed enough about my goals-it’s not enough to schedule a workout if I don’t plan exactly what that workout is going to be and what would be an acceptable alternative if something comes up.
It seems from experience of people I know or don't know including my self that people only tend to want to do any given thing if they feel like it and if there is a high chance of getting results or a mostly guaranteed to happen reward. And in this digital age where people can easily watch other peoples lives and how successful they are on youtube or any other media platform and get discouraged and feel as if they are living life very wrong. People in there day to day lives now adays after the Coronavirus pandemic that caused many Americans to stay at home longer or more times than usual not being able go into stores to shop or not being able to work do to having the virus. This made people loose trust in each other and go mad because loneliness.
Thank you! The BEST advice i’ve heard in goal-setting is in this video! Love the advice about changing the ‘why’ to ‘how will you feel when you attain that goal’!! I appreciate you!
For me it's perfectionism that holds me back. After you said: 'doing the exact right thing at the exact right time', I heard myself thinking: I'm not going to be able to do that exactly. I may as well not try. 😬😅 So, let go of aiming for the perfect and be happy with good enough. ❤
Need to re listen to this one for sure. I definitely pair things I enjoy with things I don't. I used to that doing dishes and laundry and chores. Ever since I paired it with you tube and podcasts it makes me go into autopilot and I can use it as me time and helps motivate me as I work or I am learning new things as I do mundane things that feels hard even though it is easy.
Once again, I have to thank you for the wisdom of Dry Run December. I'm heading into 2024 with some stellar new habits and a lot of enthusiasm because I know I'm already on solid footing. Happy New Year!
Hi Laura, 1st I wish you and your family a New Year filled with rainbows and joy! 2nd: I'm in Melbourne Australia, I'm 70 yrs old and have watched nearly all your videos, over the years, I'm now going to watch GOALS GLOW UP
Love the earrings! ADHD me loves them. The rest of me is trying deeper to focus on the point of your video for the sake of my New Year planning later today. 😂🤪
My big issue tends to be the things I don’t seem to see results with. Doubt and nay saying can creep in about it. Discouragement. (The trick for me was learning to “self encourage”). You really can’t just “keep it positive.” You also have to shoot down all the doubts and fears and so on. Correct or tweak all of our wrong thinking about things. Yah. I mean like boundaries. Such as telling some ideas NO!!!! I think people should ask “what exactly am I willing to trudge through to get to this goal? How is it “worth it?”As opposed to just “why?” Another thing can also be the feeling of inadequacy such as “I can’t get there” vs “Surely I can get there somehow.” Faith I guess. Aka. Expectations. Is this even possible? Persuading yourself that yes even YOU can do this. And right? Self esteem building etc. If the guy up the street can, then you can. Nobody else is “better” than you or any more “super human” either. Lift yourself up to everyone else’s “equal.” Same goes for inanimate mountains that seem “bigger than us.” You are “equal” to whatever challenge you are up against. And if you’re not yet equal to it, you can GET equal to it at some point, as it is a skill you train in, not any forever doomed flaw you have no control over.
As someone with ADHD I find it so hard to balance realistic long term goals I can continuously work towards in a steady and manageable pace for me and keeping me excited and with it. I need to dream big I need to feel that excitement and expanse to get myself pumped for it but I also now things take time and it's hard making the journey exciting enough so that my mind doesn't wander off or looses interest.
Totally fine to have a big vision! I don't think steady paces exist when it comes to achieving goals though. 😉 Some days you'll be all in, full of energy and motivation. And others you'll need to do something else. Baby steps help with getting those regular wins that keep things exciting and rewarding. They also mean you're less likely to abandon a task in the middle if something else draws your attention away.
Hey Laura, I hope you had a fantastic Christmas 😊 I can’t achieve anything at the moment as I am awaiting a massive operation in the next few months that will give me my life back.. after that the world is waiting for me. 😊

I've managed to work with my perfectionist tendencies. Now I think to myself, "If I want to perfect this, I have to get started and keep practising."

Truth for me. My fiance says set goals. For me I don't set goals I just do what needs to be done. Why wait.
