Such a Blessing to have grown up experiencing such Amazing and Talented Musicians! Love and Miss you 1970s, The Last American Decade!
I was born in '47. After 4 years of military service I got into bands like the Doobies, which I liked a lot. However, I think they were wrecked by the addition of Michael McDonald's pop-music sensibilities and incomprehendible lyrics.
@@paulmartos7730 You're my beloved uncle's age. He was a Vietnam veteran, so thank you for your service. You're the first person in my experience to say that they disapprove of Michael McDonald. It truly was amazing. One of the best era's ever. Last decade before the world went crazy. I loved every second of it. Best of times with a few hiccups but we handled things better back then.
I was born in 1962 and almost 10 when this amazing show came on air. I remember laying in front of the TV every Friday night with the sound down so my parents were none the wiser. 😄❤️
Soooooooo true... listening to great performances of Midnight Special at low volume!! Exactly!!! I remember watching David Bowie performing Space Oddity for the first time on the Midnight Special... WOW!!!
A tragic situation brought them together. Corporate music kept them together. Michael should have ventured on his own sooner. He’s too nice of a man to admit it but he didn’t need a group to be exceptional.
People love to 'blame' McDonald for the change to their sound, but you have to remember Johnston quit the band and they needed someone to fill those huge boots. So they brought him in. He didn't kick down the door and exclaim, "I'm in the band now!"
It was a different musical aesthetic when Mac joined the band. They needed something to revive their flagging musical fortunes and he was the ticket. A lot of people didn't like the change in style, but it brought them additional success in record sales and radio play they wouldn't have had otherwise. They found a new audience. And Mac is still with them when they tour now.
@@OFLHLGZ28Such disrespect. Michael is a musical force in his own right. As much as I love the original Doobies sound, and probably prefer it, they were lucky to have acquired his services. 'Ruined' my ass.

The Doobie Brothers bring back nothing but hazy but happy memories, I'm only fifty but grew up with older brothers and sisters who blessed me with their taste in music. Thanks to them I became a huge fan of this band and whenever I hear a song of theirs I always smile 😁 loving this channel keep up the good work 👍🏻
Love the Doobies & especially Tom Johnston w/head band, soft wavy long hair & that voice ooof 😅 Saw them about 15 yrs ago, front row we got the party started & everyone up & dancing, can’t stand going to rock n’ roll shows & everyone sitting down.
I can't stand it when everyone stands up. I want to sit and enjoy the show without people blocking my view. Standing a concert is the height of rudeness. It's no better than standing to watch a movie.
Great stuff from my twenties. It's strangely both happy and sad seeing these great vids from back in the day. Happy to relive the good times and great music. Sad when I hear what pop music has become.
