I will never forget as a teenager, babysitting for the Marketing Director of Infinity Records, the night that he brought home the Gold Record plaque for this song, showed up home with just about the entire office in the NY suburbs at like 11pm. Infinity was a start up, this and “Margarita Ville” were their early successes.

I was down in China Grove watching that Long Train Running when I saw that South City Midnight Lady. Sweet Maxine, I took One Step Closer and said, "I think You Belong To Me." She laughed and said,
    "That's What A Fool Believes."
It was love at first sight, But I Keep Forgetting We're Not in Love Anymore..Now Minute By Minute I think about her while I Listen To The Music. .I know it's Dangerous to think that was Real Love, The Doctor said, "I know It Keeps You Running in your mind, but it was only Echoes Of Love."

These guys are American Rock n Roll, play it, sing it, awesome. Was sitting outside at a restaurant several, several years ago in Baltimore on the water, and THE DOOBIE BROTHERS were in the amphitheater across the water singing this song and it was like being on the stage with them. Will never forget my good fortune that night. Awesome BAND!

As a 62 year old musician,it gives me a smile to see in these videos of the old rockers still performing- I HATE the term "classic rock"- that,no matter who the band is,there are always teenagers,or even younger,in the crowd, loving the music.Good taste transcends age.

What do you think is wrong with the term "classic rock"? I think it just describes a certain style or genre of - BTW - great music. I have a collection of about 300 CDs of Classic Rock, and I love them all!

Although not a big country, having lived in Dallas for 8 years in the late '70s I discovered some of Clint Blacks music. A song of Clint's that echos your sentiment about time travel is State of Mind. Very much worth a listen..
Ain't it funny how a melody can bring back a memory
Take you to another place in time
Completely change your state of mind
It can make a right from a wrong, it can make you fall in love
It can get you singin' along
Chase the clouds away and make the sun shine above

I have never seen the point of having two drummers, a drummer and a percussionist is a lot more logical. DB always such a great band.

I'm from New Orleans. Love Black Water. Pat Simmons said he was in New Orleans when he wrote the song. I could tell. Been following the Doobies since the seventies when I was a teenager. Great time to be alive. Great music.

I grew up in the S.F. Bay area during the 70,s I grew up with the Doobie Brothers. and have saw them live at least 20 times with everyone of the musicians past & present. There music rocks & you just have a constant smile on your face. I listen to there music all the time & just saw them at a private party at the Coeur d' Alene Resort in N. Idaho Your music will live on for ever. Thank all of you for the fun I have at all your venues. They rocked in the early days of Day on the Greens in the Oakland Coliseum. Was so glad to see you inducted into the Music Hall Of Fame. Rick J. Dalton Gardens, Idaho
