Actually, Bassist Tiran Porter joined on the Toulouse Street album, Drummer Keith Knudsen joined on the Stampede album (he toured on the Vices tour prior). Still a classic lineup.
These 2 songs were the standards at our Friday high school dances after the football games, there was nothing like rocking out and letting it go. Such great times I sure miss them😊👍
Hilarious- he’s wearing it like a 65-year old mensch in a NY hotel looking for her poodle who escaped in the lobby. Meanwhile the bassist looks like he’s going skiing.
If you need to just feel happy, listen to these songs. And the band still rocks. They're touring this summer, new album coming out. I'll also never understand why Tom Johnston isn't in any conversation of the best front men, lead singers/guitar player from the 70's (and his voice is still incredible.) The most underrated lead singer/song writer from any band.
End result is legend. Anyone that experienced these guys in this , their rise to prominence, know there will never be another era like it in the history of popular music. It's like what can we do better than what was put out in the 60's...well, they did it, and all the other great musical acts in this era.
Second the shout out on their Bass Player. Doobies we’re in the same league as Steely Dan as far as incredible Musicians and Talent. Blessed I grew up in the 60s & 70s. The Bands were real musicians. A great time in America ❤️🇺🇸
My high school years were from 1974 - 1978. The Doobie Brothers were the sound track to those years. My band (Cultural Revival) played "China Grove", l played rhythm/lead guitar. Though we were a CCR cover band we did some rockers from that time and "CG" was one we did at every gig. 🌎☮️♥️🎼🎶🎵🇺🇸
I was a teenage fan of rock music all through the 1970s, and this lineup of the Brothers was a big part of it. China Grove, Listen To The Music, Long Train Running were 3 of my favorite songs. Then at the age of around 30, I began joining bands around Seattle playing electric bass. I thought I knew who my influences were, but the style I developed had elements that were familiar to me although I was unaware of it's origin. At some point I heard one of these old Doobie Brothers songs and it hit me. It was the Doobs' Tiran Porter. I was laying down lines to original songs that reminded me of his style, and I didn't even know his name at that point. I do now, and I will never forget his name as long as I live.
I played rock in a local band in the mid 70s. This was one of the first tunes our band leader wrote up for us. We enjoyed playing a lot of their music.
Yep !! Was 18yo in 1974 . We strumed on our guitars till early hour's of the morning on weekend's. Let the music play and long train , we were a merry bunch. 78yo now I still listen in and strum , grand kids lining up to learn the songs. Pietermartzburg kzn South Africa.
Nice man, I remember tommy giving an interview recently talking ab his exit which was mostly due to health reasons but he mentioned the doobies changed their sound after he left and wasn't sure where he fit in... this is a classic example of old school version and I def prefer
I saw them twice, first one Tom Johnson was singing lead and it was incredible, second time Mike Macdonald was singing and i hated the change the band had become. Tom Johnson Rocked!!!
You are indeed correct! Mr Tiran Porter certainly was very and sadly underrated, however, he is one of the best bass players to ever be in a rock and roll band. He is a class act all the way even after his departure from the duties.
I just noticed that this video is exactly 7:37, so in addition to it being blessed because it's the Doobie Brothers, it's also blessed, because I really believe that the numbers 3 and 7, are God's favorite numbers. Think about it; everything can be subdivided into three. The three primary colors, three knocks at the door, three sneezes, the Holy Trinity is three, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Plus, good or bad things tend to come in 3's. And seven seems to be a perfect number in God's eyes. I have heard that 7 is a magical number. Maybe even the number of completion?
@karolm4045 personally, While I enjoy some jazz.... I don't think adding his jazz "flavor" really helped the Doobies that much. At the time, it added a twist of "pop" that it was lacking I guess.... but to me the Doobies represented the "California rock" style, along with the still popular country rock sound. It was a combo unique to them and the Eagles. When they started going jazzy.... I think that it was a move to towards a more "popish" sound. Let's face it.... you got to pay the bills. AND if that means a more "pop" sound to sell records, then that's what you do. I, on the other hand, pretty much was developing my own likes and love affair with the blues! I guess we all evolve at our own rates!
Hey, this video is exactly 7:37, and I believe that 3 and 7 are God's favorite numbers, and everything with those numbers together, seems to be blessed. And I notice that Tom Johnston looks like he's lost weight in this video, rather sucked up looking, but he was going through a drug period too, so. It ages people, or they lose weight. He looks different in this one, than the concert they did from two years before in 1972. Tom looked healthy and younger in that one. Thankfully, Tom got the help he needed along the way, and he's still a performer, he looks comfortable, healthy and strong now. ***** Check out their group picture from the early days of Doobies, and see how Tom has the long thick wavy hair, and the adorable boyish look on his face! (No mustache yet). He looked happy and without a care.
The most underrated bass player in Rock & Roll, his groove was always so tastefully done.
And always "rock solid!!!!
Tyran also played guite a bit of guitar on album. Definitely one of my influences on bass early on.
Ty is a great bass player and one of the nicest guys you could ever meet.
Don't know about under-rated🤔 What'd He(identify the player) before & after the DOOBIES? McDonald went solo... GREAT HITS!!! 🎶
Tiran Porter is the best!
You hear those guitar chords, you KNOW what you are about to hear! One of the all-time great songs performed by the band that made it famous.
TIRAN PORTER IS MY PERSONAL FAVORITE BASS PLAYER IN LIFE
One of the great bands of the 70s.
and beyond!
Take me back to 1974…ASAP!!! Those were the days 🤙🏼
Couldn’t have said it any better 🎸
One of the greatest songs ever from any band other than the Doobie Brothers
That’s music. Simple grooving music. I love it. Been listening since 1972.
Absolutely
Couldn't have said it better myself.👍👍
Same rock on peace out
You're not alone!
Sure wish there was some of this in the world today
These songs never get old
The early line-ups of Doobie Brothers crushed the later line-ups.
Amen...the original line up is The Doobie Brothers
👍
Yeah, I Like the ORIGINAL line up of 'Doobies'. So Damn Cool during that period...
you're obviously not a musician
Actually, Bassist Tiran Porter joined on the Toulouse Street album, Drummer Keith Knudsen joined on the Stampede album (he toured on the Vices tour prior). Still a classic lineup.

Used to love them in '74, still love them now.
one of those 70s bands that can fill a full concert play list with nothing but hits......
I've been listening since 72 also use to get in trouble for going to sleep with the radio on
Not everyday you see 2 drummers but you never see one of them wearing a fur coat while playing. Gotta love the 70's.
Dude u get comment of the year .lol he is wearing a fur coat
Hilarious- he’s wearing it like a 65-year old mensch in a NY hotel looking for her poodle who escaped in the lobby.
Meanwhile the bassist looks like he’s going skiing.
Nearly missed it..luv it..thanks..🇨🇦
RIP John Hartman.
@@joeimbesi5361And also Mike Hossack.
The Doobie's and the 70's will never be repeated.
If you need to just feel happy, listen to these songs. And the band still rocks. They're touring this summer, new album coming out. One of my favorite vocalists for sure!
Saw them in concert 1973...they blew the roof off..still listening almost 50 years later
Over the years, I’ve seen The Doobies 24 times in every personal configuration they had. Loved them all! I still have a pick that Pat Simmons gave me.
One of the best bands of the 20th Century.
I must agree but I also like Steely Dan and that's who the Doobie Brothers took their style from ..
The 1970s were a golden cornucopia of musical goodness
Their sound was basic, but masterful. They could find a groove, and before you knew it, you were relaxing in it like a hammock in summertime.
Ri seen them in Seattle Washington at the paramount theater after I got home from the service..they rocked over in Vietnam
lol perfect description
Thanks for the wonderful music, I saw Wilko play with the late great Ian Drury and the Blockheads in The Town And Country Club 2 in 1990 fantastic.

One of my favorite bands. Tom was the rock of that band!🎸🎶💃🥰
Listen To The Music has one of the ten best bass lines in all of music. That is one I had fun playing. Great rhythmic feel.
Saw the Doobie Brothers in 74 at Pima College in Tucson, Az. Edgar Winter did Frankenstein!
Second the shout out on their Bass Player. Doobies we’re in the same league as Steely Dan as far as incredible Musicians and Talent. Blessed I grew up in the 60s & 70s. The Bands were real musicians. A great time in America ❤️🇺🇸
This song got me through several days in high school. Love it!
Two of my forever favourites.. just faaabulous..feeling good feeling fine..oooh yeahhh ❤👌
These guys did some outstanding songs.
Growing Up, The Doobies were *All Over* the Local Radio dial..
The Doobie Brothers are *ICONIC* Music from the 1970s into the 1980s
There still great inconcert seen them 2 years ago sound the same as you remembered them .great show .
My high school years were from 1974 - 1978. The Doobie Brothers were the sound track to those years. My band (Cultural Revival) played "China Grove", l played rhythm/lead guitar. Though we were a CCR cover band we did some rockers from that time and "CG" was one we did at every gig.

Tom Johnstone a certified R&R star
I juss love listening to this song China Grove, listening to the music..
True gas from the 70's. Remember listening to this sitting at the pool during the summers. What memories these songs are.
Love this! That it’s live, the ad libs and Tom Johnston looks healthy and like a God here. Simply wonderful!

One of my all time favorite bands . They were superb musically and good fellas who'd give you the shirts of their backs

Your math is a bit off. If you were 18 in "74, you should still be in your 60s ????
I could.listen to this every day...(actually I do!) Love you guys!
Listen to the Music playing in my '68 AMX and I was dating a high school senior. A blond little hippy chick. Memories that make me smile.
Just always love the music of the doobies. Listen to the music!
wow now thats a live band. Porter on bass stellar
I could live in China Grove forever
Love this lineup, man.
Memories from high school, good times!
Daaayum! That’s live! It doesn’t get much tighter than that ladies and gentlemen.
THe Doobies always had great bass lines.
Absolutely Brilliant
The groove masters!! Such a unique band and sound!!!
Nice man, I remember tommy giving an interview recently talking ab his exit which was mostly due to health reasons but he mentioned the doobies changed their sound after he left and wasn't sure where he fit in... this is a classic example of old school version and I def prefer
Two Doobies' songs that almost have to be tracked one after the other at any tailgate party!!
good old school rock n roll
I saw them twice, first one Tom Johnson was singing lead and it was incredible, second time Mike Macdonald was singing and i hated the change the band had become. Tom Johnson Rocked!!!
I was in diapers when this was recorded.
This band is in my soul.
What a bass line!
You are indeed correct! Mr Tiran Porter certainly was very and sadly underrated, however, he is one of the best bass players to ever be in a rock and roll band. He is a class act all the way even after his departure from the duties.
this is one of the songs that made me want to play guitar
Rare to hear china Grove on the radio today listen to the music is the one you hear after 40 years
BEAUTIFULLY DONE. NICE AND TIGHT.
Oh yes back in the day Boone's Farm wine and some doobies and some Doobie Brothers
Groovy music Doobie brothers❤️
Just realized how much China Grove has a Steppenwolf, Born To Be Wild feel to it, probably inspired Johnston.
Tom Johnston's song writing was magic.
We were both merciful and merciless with regards to this lovely music. Struck chords with all of us.
More 70's! Hell Yes!!
Brilliant band. 70's was full of great music ❤❤❤
Saw the doobies at the WACA Perth Australia. In the late 1970,s. Music for the soul
The Doobies painted great images...I would lie back and visualise/relive the the people places and moments they created
Hey, the 1970s just called....because it couldn't text!
The original lineup 🔥
Not quite original, as Tiran replaced Dave Sjogren on the Toulouse Street album. The band also did not have two drummers initially.
@@ClintonWatrin-sv8lm 👍🌞🍊
Love Patrick Simmons addition of this rendition!
It s great and magic grooving !
It seems like these songs never get old it juss keeps following with the times..party on..lol
Awesome band.
Old is Gold.....Simplesmente ....imbatíveis.....

Always loved the Doob's
They were the days
I love the Doobie brothers, "pre- Michael McDonald" of course. 70s rocked!!
The best ! Skunk Baxter really brought them along too!
pre- Michael McDonald -- YES!
But Micheal McDonald added to their group and, then he went solo.
