I was 9 when this song debuted. I’m now 58 and it feels like 49 years have flown by, and I’m lucky enough to still be here, to continue to “listen to the music.”
I was 18 and went to see Steve Miller band at winterland San Francisco. Can't remember who the second band was but Doobies we're openers. Heard this song and it was on. Seen them about 15 xs. Met Tom and Pat in Santa Cruz several years ago and they were good humble dudes. Never cared much for McDonald. Way different sound.

The irony of this comment when this isn't them performing live is pure comedy, get off the high horse and just enjoy the music. There are tons of bands who play live and sound good you just wouldn't know about them cause you're in a vacuum.
When i hear this song i always get a chill. My mom was dying of cancer. I was 8k miles away. We would send music back and forth. You really have to listen to the music.
I was at a DB concert in 1973 waiting on my best friend to arrive. Later his gf came up crying saying he was killed in car wreck on the way to concert. We really loved DB music. He was 15 when he passed. Odd thing we were together all the time chasing girls trying to grow up fast but this one time we were not hanging together.
Every second of this song (from start to finish) is pure joy to listen to. Can never tire of hearing this, just beautiful. The title says it all "Listen To The Music"....
Receive a warm greeting from the oldest new world, Peru ...what a superb band and how underrated it can be by critics. I send a big hug to all the people in this room.
What a joyful song! Saw them years ago, their original singer had rejoined the band and the happy energy those guys put out was unreal. Huge smiles the entire concert, you could tell they were just really happy to be playing together again and it showed, played all of their old classics and they sounded GREAT! All 4 guitarists did solos in every song, they'd been playing so long and were so good it like nothing you'll see in a band nowadays. Not really one of my favorite bands but definitely one of my favorite concerts! They absolutely rocked.
I remember going to Jack Murphy Stadium in San Diego to see the Doobie Brothers in the late 70s. They didn't disappoint then and don't today. Timeless.
These guys have everything, especially rhythm. The bass player is tight and bouncy with the drums, really pulsing the music along. That rhythm guitar riff is the tightest and most accurate ever played. The riff just doesn't work unless it's exactly right.
Titan Porter on Bass. Yes, great talent, very underrated. Dave Shogren played the title cut of Toulouse Street, and did backing vocals on White Sun on the same LP. But Tiran Porter was the bass player from 1972-80, the best years. Love his bass on Neal's Fandango. @@sambarron5476

So true Dr. Ken !!! Listen to the music is timeless !!! Check out ," Doesn't Matter Where Or When ," an original rocking song and video on my site . Thanks , Adam Holtz
A teeneager in the late 70's I will never forgive myself for taking Rock music of the 70's & 80's for granted and for never having attended a concert by any of the many great bands that I listened to growing up. I attended a Santana/Doobie Brothers concert in 2019 just before the Pandemic, one of the greatest live concert experiences of my life which is not saying much as my last previous concert was the Cult in 1990. I feel like I missed so much, it hurts to think about it.
Tiran Porter is one of my all-time favorite bass players. He's their difference-maker imo...just a super melodic and funky style that uplifts their songs.
Still sounding good after all these years I joined the USAF it was on a commercial and I don't regret serving my country and listening to great music like this thanks y'all

Agreed!
Whilst a wonderful song, be aware that this is not a live performance..it is the album version.
The irony of this comment when this isn't them performing live is pure comedy, get off the high horse and just enjoy the music. There are tons of bands who play live and sound good you just wouldn't know about them cause you're in a vacuum.
What the people need is a way to make them smile. Never had this been more true on a global scale.
True that
Weed makes me smile
It ain't so hard to do if you know how!
That's what they say every year
@@jaquesteddyruxpin932 I'm with you, let's get the world high👍🌎🥴
I'm so thankful I grew up in the 60's and 70's, and have the Doobies and other great bands as part of my living memories.
If your listening to this in 2024 your a legend 🤘
As I am now (76) !!!!

I am now too, and I am 47 years old.

Tom Johnston, Pat Simmons, John Hartman, Micheal Hossack & Tiran Porter. The best Doobie Bros yrs.
That opening strum is the most perfectly rhythmic guitar of all time.
Yesss!
Testify Bro !!
it was "borrowed" a few years later, by Steve Miller, for "Rock'n Me Baby".....
When i hear this song i always get a chill. My mom was dying of cancer. I was 8k miles away. We would send music back and forth. You really have to listen to the music.
This song never gets old, it will ever get u swinging regardless what generation u are from :)
Yesss! Partytime
Seeing them at The Chateau nestled under the towering redwoods. Bikers packed in - magical nights and memories...
So many songs r timeless, each generation loves it.
Indeed
77 years young and still listening to and dancing to the music. So many good time memories...
TAKE ME BACK 😢😢😢😢😢
You hit me tko
I am 65
Hey young man.
I'm 55 and was 7 when this song came out. Oh how I miss those days too! Good times, good music!
So sorry for the loss of your friend.
Every second of this song (from start to finish) is pure joy to listen to.
Can never tire of hearing this, just beautiful.
The title says it all "Listen To The Music"....
I’m 57 and my eight year-old and myself enjoy this song playing, and we play it over and over.
One of the greatest songs of all time
Totally agree with you
That’s not true
@@xxrandmlinksxxbruh2419 Your mother returning my calls: that’s not true.

I do agree with you.
Oh man. I had a bag full of records and this was one of them . My Dad loved it.
To this very day one of the catchiest rhythms that occupy this 57 year old head. GOOD stuff!!
The long train runing song is awesome as well.
So you were 13 back then, right?
So you were 13 back then, right?
Andrew Dagwell I agree mr.cool head 👍👍
So goes for my 74 y/o head Andrew.
Receive a warm greeting from the oldest new world, Peru ...what a superb band and how underrated it can be by critics. I send a big hug to all the people in this room.
That's his song. He owns it.
Terrific soulful voice!
Absolutely brilliant
The bass player is killing it! Love it!
Ever a plaisir to play this bass line !
Dave shogren on bass amazing talent
Titan Porter on Bass. Yes, great talent, very underrated. Dave Shogren played the title cut of Toulouse Street, and did backing vocals on White Sun on the same LP. But Tiran Porter was the bass player from 1972-80, the best years. Love his bass on Neal's Fandango. @@sambarron5476
There's a pretty powerful message in this song and clip that can help us 😊
This song forever holds a place in my heart because my dad loved it and he loved catching me dancing as an emotional expression. I know he’s still telling me to listen to the music. ❤️
"PEACE"
Same here! My dad taught me how to dance to this song. Fond memories.
:')
Music in the last 20 years can’t hold a candle to songs like this.
Absolutely Carlo we had the best glad I was there ❤️
could not agree more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If they don't make a song like this by the end of next week I am going to take my life or another's.
@@andrewmatthews6861 .... I'm glad I remember it!!! hahahaha
You got that right buddy! No comparison!
For those of us who were raised on this music we were truly blessed thank you!
Another greatest band in the past. A great legend.
I remember as a kid in high school hearing this song on the radio and it blew me away. I was an instant fan of the Doobies. I just love the way Toms mic whips back and forth in this video.

Love "Big John Hartmann 's hat. This is real music played by real musicians. No autotune... no ridiculous dancing.. just pure music the way it should be played. This is the music of my youth and its still being played some 45yrs later [ maybe more]
I agree with you

We sold more stereo's in one of the store's I managed when this was Number 1 hit than any song in 20 years previously...still sounds good so many years later...
So true Dr. Ken !!! Listen to the music is timeless !!! Check out ," Doesn't Matter Where Or When ," an original rocking song and video on my site . Thanks , Adam Holtz
Total class days now sadly missed 😢😢
Awesome story ken take me back with you 😁
Yes I remember. Having a home audio system, turn table big amps and huge speakers that blasted great music with power. And I mean POWER.
Have a good day koma and all you stations out there
A teeneager in the late 70's I will never forgive myself for taking Rock music of the 70's & 80's for granted and for never having attended a concert by any of the many great bands that I listened to growing up. I attended a Santana/Doobie Brothers concert in 2019 just before the Pandemic, one of the greatest live concert experiences of my life which is not saying much as my last previous concert was the Cult in 1990. I feel like I missed so much, it hurts to think about it.
Im 63, and this song is still getting more beautiful!,,,2020
1957 Forever!
Yessssssss.......😎💪👌👍
Oh take me back to the 70's
God bless the Doobie Brothers, one of the greatest rock bands of all time!!
One of greatest upbeat Rock Songs ever made. I still love the tune even though I've been listening to it for approximately 50 years !
THANK YOU CARLA AND AARON for enlightening me with bringing so much music in my life . I will never forget you guys
Even the microphone is dancing. great song. Driving bass multiple guitars pumping drums. Yes
Tiran Porter is one of my all-time favorite bass players. He's their difference-maker imo...just a super melodic and funky style that uplifts their songs.
One of the best songs in rock n roll history
Listen to the music is the top 100 song in the billboard chart in 1976
Pure soul ! Even the microphone is rockin'...
I was 14 in 1972. It was my favorite then and it is still my favorite of all time.

My little guy just turned 4 and he loves all the oldies. He loves to waltz to "unchained melody" with me when he's tired
A song of the century, will stay on top due this professional band’s creation!
