- This is a Motormouth couple car review of the Lexus RX450h+ plug-in (PHEV) mid-size luxury SUV? This 2024 Lexus RX450h+ plug-in hybrid has a 2.5L 4-cylinder with Lexus hybrid drive, it’s matched to an ECVT and gets a combined 304 horsepower. It has 60 km/37 miles of EV range, standard AWD. In Canada there is just one trim of the 2024 Lexus RX450h+ and in the US one trim but you also add packages and a la carte items for those extra features like the Mark Levinson sound system, panoramic view monitor, digital key and digital rearview mirror. These are all standard in Canada.
Other standard features include, a 7” driver display, 14” touchscreen with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto, wireless charger, panoramic sunroof, head-up display, heated leather wrapped steering wheel, 10-way powered heated and ventilated front seats with memory, semi-Aniline leather seats, ventilated and heated rear seats and a power tailgate with kick sensor.
The 2024 Lexus RX450h+ PHEV has a low, wide stance offering 8.1” of ground clearance, 21” performance alloy wheels and a tire repair kit. The interior is driver focused with the touchscreen tilted towards the driver making it easy to access the screen,
The 2024 Lexus RX450h+ plug-in hybrid gets 2.8Le/100 km, 83 MPGe. With the battery depleted the RX PHEV gets 6.5L/100 km in the city and 7.1L/100 km on the highway. That’s 36 MPG city and 33 MPG highway. It can tow 3500 pounds.
The 2024 Lexus RX450h+ PHEV has an 18.1 kWh battery and comes with a 6.6 kW onboard charger. You can charge the battery with a Level 2 charger in about 2.5 hours. The RX is not compatible with a DC Fast Charger.
The 2024 Lexus RX 450h+ is $90,275 CAD/$70,080 USD

Great to see you both in Texas with this Lexus RX Giant of a car. Looks very smart outside and super luxurious interior 🎉
I have been waiting for this review! Great video as always
I like the interior design better. The exterior is ok. Great show Andrea! 👍🏻👍🏻☕️☕️
I love it. She's not afraid to get on it.
Great video 👍👍love this car nori green beautiful
Love the Nori green colour❤
We wanted Red, but the Nori Green is really growing on us.
Ever since pandemic, price of cars have sky rocketed with the supply shortage. Now it’s still pretty high. In 2018, got a fully loaded RX luxury trim with all options for 51k USD. Then in 2022, got fully loaded RX luxury trim for 62k USD. That’s a 12k markup for basically same car.
Yep. Now a new accord top trim costs close to $50k CAD. Pre covid that was tlx trim with awd
I’ve been meaning to ask if Andrea has motorcycle experience, as she usually leans into a turn.
Good fun watching these reviews. :^)
I love you guys
You are amazing
Thanks Zack and Andrea. Did Lexus say anything to you about why this RX doesn't do as well (MPGe, all-electric range) as the RAV4 Prime? Is it just down to the weight difference?
Love it but that’s sell your kidney money. Gonna stick with Toyota so I can keep all my organs .
This isn't that much nicer than the Toyota it's based on anyway, imo. So, yes, keep your organs! :)
I know you guys have tested the GLE 450e and I'm curious, would you pick the 450e plug-in or the Lexus RX450 plug-in?
And thank you. I appreciate your reviews very much
How does the Tonale compare with the 4 comparisons? (X5, NX etc.)
Looks like an updated version of my 2022 RX450h FSport without the V6. Great car and my 2022 RX450h has been as reliable as a Rolex watch and I will probably keep it for a very long time. Also, it’s fun to drive with a V6, and I wish they kept the V6 in this plug-in hybrid - it would have been a perfect performer.
I was so impressed watching this until I heard the Price !!! My first words were Absolutely CRAZY !!!! Totally in a Ball Park of its own!! Still love watching your videos, keep up the great work you do 🥰
the Car where you tested cost in Germany € 96k it makes USD $ 101k, I never would pay so much for this Car but for the American and Canadian market it´s a good choice.
I have the RX450h V6 engine model from 2020 and don’t want a 4 cylinder turbo engine since they’re more problematic down the road. Naturally aspirated is better than forced induction. I’ll be keeping my 2020 car for a long time.
90k bucks.... who cares if you save some gas when you're spending 90k bucks.
I know, right? I paid $6k for my used Honda Fit, 7 years ago, and it costs me next to nothing in fuel and maintenance. This ugly, overpriced crate will depreciate $6k as soon as the new owner drives it off the lot.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMHLexus don't depreciate as much as other car brands
@MrAgentMoy yep they get stolen instead 😂
@@fycfyc1 sure, not new ones
@@fycfyc1well said, especially in eastern Canada. You’re just buying and maintaining for the theft
Why didn't you include the Lincoln Corsair GT rather than another Lexus in that competition quad box?
I agree with A_S… $$$ its out of hand. Great vehicle but i will not spend that on a hybrid when a gas model is significantly cheaper. The plain RX is creeping into (if not already) too expensive. GV70 looking like a bargain 🤔
I have a GV70 and went from Lexus to Genesis. Much better buy and reliability for me.
That is exactly what I did, I had a previous RX350 but when I looked at the new one, I picked the GV70 and I am thrilled with my choice of the Genesis. One of the best vehicles I have ever owned

2,700 miles on our RX450h+ with a 2,200 mile road trip. We're loving it! Our 2013 RX350 went over 160,000 miles with no issues. Lexus reliability for the win.
Went today and drove 2 different RX’s since I would be interested in an RX450h+. I have an NX450h+ and was surprised at the overall refinement of the RX models I drove. (350 and 500h)
Curious as to what you get for EV mileage and mileage while in HV mode? Matching window stickers the RX gets 1mpg less and 1 less MPGe using the same setup.
@chrisstewart7147 I get anywhere between 40 and 50 miles on a charge, in city/backroads driving and rural highways under 55. I've not done any high-speed Interstate runs in EV mode, though the faster you go, the shorter the range. Freeway hybrid mode runs 28 mpg in the mountain passes at 60-70 mph,, and as high as 35 mpg with flat and level 55-60 mph speeds. One 150-mile run at around 70 mph netted 31 mpg. My raw gasoline fuel economy comes out to be 42.1 mpg over 2,500 miles, using miles divided by gallons of gas pumped. When I factor in the electricity, which comes out to be 159 kwh, which I estimate to be equivalent to about 10.6 gallons of gasoline, using 14.5 kwh per gallon, the "fuel economy" drops to 35.7 mpg. I use 14.5 kwh as I've seen that mentioned as the useable capacity of the battery and that corresponds fairly well to my calculations as well. The 37 miles of EV range that Lexus claims is close enough to the 35 miles combined that Lexus claims for gasoline HV mode fuel economy for me. A major improvement in fuel economy from our 2013...
@@wellsbengston4132
In my NX450h+ I get 38-40 EV miles. I got my NX450h+ a year ago and didn’t really break the engine in with a trip until September(almost 10 months after I got it). 1600 miles cruising in HV mode going 73…it ranged from 33.5mpg-38.5mpg. That was PA to TN.
Long highway trips are not typically what I drive and I’m thinking the RX450h+ would/should get close if not the same as what I get now. Granted the RX is maybe 300+ lbs heavier, but when test driving them today I liked the comfort and more space. More extras in the RX that the NX doesn’t offer as well. Price is steep, but I think worth it for the most part.
@chrisstewart7147 I think that you'd be safe to expect a little less economy and range due to the weight and increased frontal area of the RX with the same powertrain. I do feel it's worth it, though I feel the RX350h is more of a bargain. The extra pep and EV capability of the RX450h is sweet though. You notice the engine more in city driving than on the highway, so being able to completely shut it off is very nice. We broke it in with a 2,200 mile trip from Fairfield, CA to Anacortes, WA, and it was a superb trip vehicle. Taking it for a tour of Arizona parks this Christmas season, about 3,000 miles round trip. Can't wait!
I've been binge watching your videos... love them. However, I've come to the conclusion that not only are cars too expensive these days, but Canadians seem to get "shafted," as the prices are even higher, which makes me sad.
Can you use this RX 450h+ (plug-in) without plugging it in? If electricity gets too expensive (I live in CA, prices getting way high recently), can I use this plug-in RX like an RX 350h and never plug it in? Or will this degrade the battery over time.
I had the same thought about that ugly grill when it first came out...and I haven't changed my mind.
Great video and info! I would expect for the price point... an interior other than black... are you two not tired of the "all black" interiors?
ABSOLUTLY agree, 100%. Black colored interiors do not show the styling details, as well as light colored. Alco, lighter appears more spacious and open!
You can get other colors for the interior. However I agree that the all black looks cheap.
What’s a budget option for this?
Good review, am on the market for a Lexus but at this price, i probably will go Volvo..unfortunately because i love Lexus
I see so many of them on the road now.
I like the way she says cockpit
Good video! Thanks for sharing. What do you have to come to the US to test? No hybrid in Canada?
Who take care of kids when you away….
Lexus rx 450
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was wondering how it compares to the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe
i have a 2005 RX with over 75k miles and its still going. If anyone is considering an RX you will get one hell of a reliable ride!
You're barely driving it.
But yes, Lexus is the most durable consumer car brand
Does it come with Grey Poupon? Too rich for my blood. Maybe I’ll be shopping at Genesis or Kia?
@@rohitnijhawan5281 Exactly. 75k miles is barely anything for a car.
wow!! only 75k miles on an ‘05?!
@@rohitnijhawan5281 Really? I felt like we drove it a ton lol. But it doesnt take away from how durable the car is!
Well, cheap. It costs less than 1% of a house in first Shaughnessy in Vancouver West. So I say they set the price right for the intended customer.
Man why did they get rid of the v6
I was checking 3 months ago and it carried a $7k markup in the local dealers. I guess it's a little better than the GV70 with their $5k markups...
Dealer markups are a ripoff. Only foolish buyers spend more money than the suggested retail price. 10:38
If you want it right now they might charge you more for one on the lot. Just order it and tell them you’ll wait. All the prices are online.
Our dealer asked for $5k over. We ended up paying $1,250 over. Gotta' haggle...
I prefer the RX hybrid 350h, still the best car i ever own.
i'm guessing there's very low supply for this model so they upped the price
Very similar to my 2023 Rav4 Prime tech but a lot more expensive 😊
We checked out the R4P while waiting on the 450h+. I'd of been happy with it, but my partner was used to the luxury of a Lexus, so we waited. It really is a more luxurious experience. The R4P is an amazing piece of machinery though.
I wonder what the tipping point is for these luxury EV's. when you are able to pay these high prices. At some point the fact that you can save a few bucks on gas becomes irrelevant except to use as a talking point at the cocktail party. My guess is lack of supply won't be a big issue. I don't see long lineups at the dealers to get one of these and if there is a long line I don't think the people I know will be in the line.
The more reviews I watch and the more research I do on replacing my 13 year old vehicle the more I consider just pimping my ride, 2023 style. At least I'd still have buttons for the radio and climate control. And a manual transmission.
Thanks!
Thank you!
Wow, thank you!
They want $75,000 here in NY/NJ, and good luck finding one.
Nut$ !!
Is there tire noise? Great review.
Does it have tires? If so, then it has tire noise.
Depends on the road surface. It's the quietest car I've ever driven, though, regardless.
Bought our RX PHEV on Monday, traded our X5 PHEV (45e) for it. Overall, the interior and features are done better in the Lexus while the X5 handles better and when the engine kicks in it is punchier and better sounding. RX is peppier in EV mode and gets better milage when used in hybrid mode. Overall, really happy with the RX PHEV so far. We also had a Rav4 Prime and the RX PHEV feels and drives nothing like a Rav4 Prime despite sharing its powertrain...
My question would be how much over MSRP did you end up paying?
@@papadougpapadougsadventures I actually got a small discount but the money factor on the lease was marked up
@@arifisik I think that car is at the top of my list. Congrats
interesting, i’ve driven both as well and to me the interior of the rx is a class below the x5. it’s not even close in terms of quality and usability (i’m referring to the pre 2024 x5)
@@cupcake0190 Have you looked at the RX Luxury trim? It is noticeably nicer than the lower trims and nicer than my 2022 X5 was with the vernasca leather. RX has also more rear seat room (rear seats also have auto adjustments, heating and ventilation). Both great interiors but to me the RX in the Luxury trim is the nicer place to be in by a hair.
We won't be buying a vehicle until the prices return to normalcy. Absolutely nuts.
You’re going to need that Mark Levinson sound system to drown out the 4 cylinder drone.
The four-cylinder sound is the one let-down with the RX450h+, but you rarely hear it running, even with the sound off.
Does the GARGANTUAN front grill have a designated location for a required front license plate?
Lexus would provide you with a bracket that attaches to the center of the grille.
Lexus doesn't make enough of them to satisfy the market so the prices paid are very high on the plug in hybrids. I think the dealers like it that way.
Lexus will deliver 3 to my dealer in 2024 with a wait list of 18, they aren’t serious in the game of electrification. 1) 90k at 7% interest, 2) 90k because they dont make any 3) 90k really
I find it hard to believe the fuel economy with battery depleted is better in city than highway. We have been considering this for our Florida vehicle and comparing to the Volvo XC60 recharge. Load up the Volvo and it is more expensive. At $3.25 a gallon gas in Florida it’s hard to justify the added P HEV cost.
City fuel economy really is better. Unless you have solar, the 350h really is the better economic choice, but we went with the 450h+ anyway.
If my budget won't allow for electric, would top package Venza (hybrid) be the best step down?
I love my 2023 Venza in titanium glow with boulder interior but it is a far step down from an RX. It isn’t as quite as an RX or as smooth riding but great mileage and it does remind me of a mini RX in some ways. Try the Venza out and see if you like it. The Venza is hard to find. I had to put $500 down and wait 5 months to get it in Wisconsin. Just got it three weeks ago. I have the XLE.
@@annv4338thank you for your reply! So helpful! Will definitely share this info w/hubby
A friend of mine purchased the 2023, 450 Hybrid ( regular). I love the car except for the tire noise( VERY LOUD !) And bumpy.
It’s the run flat tire. Those things are really loud
* * definitely these are NOT Lexus characteristics: LOUD & BUMPY ! * *
Another great review, thanks for doing these. The XC60 shines by comparison. 455hp, real 8 speed, handsomer, less money . . . I have a S60 with a 41 mile battery. As you alluded to in your XC90 review, you got “extra kilometers” of charge when plugged in. That needs more investigation. My battery always goes to 48 miles with a full charge, often over 50. In fact the car has traveled 55.2 miles on a full charge.
The two times I've drained the RX450h+ battery in pure EV mode, it's gone 43 miles(highway) and 49 miles(city). Both times, it was not quite fully charged. More than enough for our needs. We looked at the Volvo while we were waiting on the 450 to become available, but Lexus reliability sold us. We traded in a 160k miles 2013 RX350 that never had any issues. We've put 2,700 miles on the new Lexus, so far, and have no regrets.
Zack I have a question. I’m looking at a 2008 911 with 88000kms. It’s the same colour as your Cayenne. Is there certain things I should be looking out for? Thanks Gord
I wouldn't buy anything pre-2009 due to the IMS issue. Plus, that's when the PDK came out, which is the only transmission I'd be interested in. If you want a manual, that part won't matter though.
You have to get it inspected by someone that really knows these cars. Yes, 2009 and newer is better.
Thanks for input
At 38 seconds, he says it's expensive! What isn't these days 42K for 2023 Prius Limited
Should have optional two tone paint and heated floors
I have the nx 450 plug in. love it. getting 50 miles on a charge. never buy gas!
My Volvo S60 has gone 55.2 miles on one battery charge.
That power seat fold was painfully slow.
PHEVs still have two power trains in one vehicle, more points of failure. Plus, you still gotta service oil and fluids. Seems like it's better to go normal hybrid or full electric ⚡
Two powertrains, is that why Toyota has one week worth of Prius stock on the lot?
Good thing it's a Lexus.
What good is a car review if one cannot get an 450h+, or if one cannot get one for 1-2 years?
💯💯💯
The moment he said zork and yugioh came to mind …
I don’t know, does still exceed Andrea’s holy s**t statement a few years ago when reviewing the Mercedes-Benz GLE price fully loaded? 😂
This is gorgeous and I love the colour but the price is way too much…definitely made for a wealthy person!
...wrong - for a STUPID person that wants to show off...and keep it in SERVICE!
Can you compare a Tesla Model Y with the Lexus RX450h+? Both are very different and have their advantages and disadvantages.
Lexus more comfort (quality)
Tesla more technology and the price
Or rather the Germans with BMW X5 or Mercedes GLE?
Model Y looks cheap
the volvo xc90 hybrid has more hp and torque! better mpg as well I believe!
Did I miss where they mention the all EV range?
It's rated at 37 miles, but ours exceeds that. I've hit 49 in city, and 43 on the highway. More than enough for normal driving.
And here I am stressing the 34k that I just spent on my wife’s new Lexus UX 250h. 90k!? Wow. 😯
Can you plug it in at home without buying a special charger? Thanks!
Yes but it'll be a really slow charge
Yes you can use a Level 1
@@antonykaoIf you're sleeping for most of that time, it doesn't matter if the charge is slower
Unless discharged which in my experience doesn't happen often, it's easily charged overnight from a regular outlet. @@antonykao
It comes with a 120 volt charger that takes 12 hours to charge from empty.
You’re totally correct that it is way too expensive. Priced at $10K USD more than comparably equipped 350h, no sensible person should buy it.
At 90k CAD, why would I even bother with a plug in hybrid? Is Lexus that confident that people are willing to spend almost 100k CAD on a Lexus?
Only a year ago, i considered an RX350 but didnt like the$74K price for the F Sport top of the line. A year later, that seems like a bargain, even for the gas model. I went with a GV70 gas model for $64K (2.5T Sport Prestige). Way better value, just as refined and better tech. EVs are just out of range. They are toys for the next tier of wealthy people.
I couldn't agree with you more, I bought the same GV70 Sport Prestige, white with the Ultramarine Blue interior.
* * I've been a Lexus guy for the past 23 years...but this one is way OVERPRICED!
NO - absolutely not worth this money - plus it's a PHEW (lost of problems)! * *
I think the reasoning Toyota is squeezing in the Crown line of vehicles is so they can jack up the Lexus pricing. Starting at 70k is just too much.
Will this get me the iZdev rebate?
Nope
No too expensive
See, Lexus can make a good (PH)EV when they want to.
Nice car for grandparents
Love the car but the price makes me want to walk
"But That Price" !!! WOW less expensive than the Dog Eared Euros volvo and Korean Genisis....You get what you pay for.....RELIABILITY Plug in Regular gas option GREAT RESALE...and a vehicle that is a one time buy...not dump in one year like cedes porsche Euros!
Does anybody else miss when Zack used to put the “ding gun”back in the invisible holster? 😢
If you have a I phone make sure it is compatible with Apple Play . My 2024 NX 350 H is not and such a disappointment.
The premium for plug in hybrids just doesn’t make $ense….go with the standard hybrid.
It makes sense if you have solar and your driving profile fits. Otherwise, no, it doesn't make sense. We got it anyway.
Beautiful SUV from lexus that's why the bad guy love to steal and ships to Africa. African love the lexus RX
At 90k ,..yeah that’s a luxury vehicle no doubt. I guess if one can afford a 90k vehicle then this one looks pretty darn nice!
As a long time Lexus owner, I've never driven a better vehicle. Love the hybrid, but will not buy a plug on. About 40% of the charging stations are down around my state. Druggie and thieves cut the plug ins off the chargers to steal the copper.
Plug it in at home
It takes 2.5 hours to charge on an L2. We plug in if it's convenient, when away from home, but mainly plug in at home for local driving.
My wife would never plug this in…it is just too hard
70k vs the new GX550 premium plus only 68k...Hmmmm🤔🤔
I don't like in BC that we are charged higher taxes for anything over $55K.
I just don't get it. Are dealerships pricing people out of buying cars completely? It's crazy that in Canada you can barely get a family vehicle for under $30k. And for those who can afford this $90,000 vehicle aren't caring about the cost of gas anyway. Put the hybrid tech into the smaller vehicles for cheaper so younger people can afford vehicles and fuel.
Oh, but also....make them available to buy!
90 grand?! 😂😂 uhh yea I’ll hang onto my X3 for a few more years
*~*~*~ OUCH! "Spring" for the Mark Levenson.....the stock 10 speaker is a B= the ML is a A+ but for $1200.00 plus tax...go home and hear your REAL stereo w/o any possible road noise nor distractions!!!
So bottom line... If money is not an issue is this PHEV you would buy?
The price is ridiculous high
Why would someone buy this over the NX? It's baby brother? It is $10k cheaper with the same quality.
$70K 😮😮😮
BMW, Merc, Volvo etc etc all PHEV are similarly priced or way more than the Rx450 PHEV. So its rightly priced and includes the dependability of Lexus.
That's true, except those vehicles aren't based on a plebian, run of the mill Highlander. The Lexus should be a bit cheaper than this, imo.
@@johnholst Similarly packaged X5 would cost you 15-20k more than this RX and Merc/Volvo uses the same common power trains that they use in other vehicles.
@@anjansingh3093 Yes, true. But again, those vehicles are not based on cheaper mainstream platforms.
@@johnholst Merc GLE PHEV uses 2 Lt Turbo engine and that is being used in GLC, GLE 350 and other models also. So yes, GLE PHEV also uses common power trains. Merc, BMW etc do not have other affordable brands where they can use same engine etc and that is not Toyota's or other Japanese automakers fault.
@anjansingh3093 But the GLC, GLE etc are all rwd "luxury" car platforms. So is the X5. The Lexus uses the same bones as the mainstream Toyota Highlander. Don't you see the difference? Genesis, for example, doesn't use any Hyundai platforms in their vehicles. They're all rwd platforms. I'm just saying Lexus shouldn't pretend this should be priced like an X5 when they're saving a ton of money using Toyota frames. I think they should price it a little more competitively.
90k? That’s a bit too much for a phev.. for that sorta price why not just go a Model X or the higher end EV bmw’s at that point…
Toyota doesn’t sell it anymore
