It’s hard to say since the TX is so new. The TX is expected to mainly pull GX intenders, but it also seems to be pulling people that had shopped for the LX as well. Some RX shoppers may opt for the larger model, but it’s main mission is to prevent Lexus customers from defecting to an MDX when they want a 3rd row and a more on-road focused SUV
Not likely. I compared the TX size to the RX size at the Lexus dealership and my wife said the TX reminded her of a bus. So, if you have to haul a lot of people or cargo the TX is definitely the way to go, but if you don't have a lot of people or cargo, the RX is just right.
Not interested in Lexus until they bring the subcompact LBX to the USA - which will never happen, sadly. People who like smaller vehicles in this demographic are a severe minority & thus overlooked. Shame that the compact UX is so unattractive & weird looking towards the rear, & resembles an over-styled station-wagon more than a crossover.
PHEV owners are driving 25-65% fewer electric miles than vehicles allow and consuming 42-67% more fuel than EPA estimates. An IOPscience study found that between 15% and 33% of 12-mile range PHEVs, 5%- 12% of 20-mile range, and 2%-8% of 36 miles PHEVs did not report plugging-in frequently.
Most of the data cited on PHEV use is either limited in nature (IOP used mainly Volt data from public sites) or from European data sets where PHEVs are mainly provided to employees as company cars. The most honest answer here is that we have no idea how often the average PHEV is plugged in because the Volt data is getting fairly old and not representative of what a luxury SUV shopper might do in terms of behavior. However, most data sets point to over 90% of PHEV owners charging overnight just about every night.
With PHEV you never know because it doesn't mandate charging. So it is a wild guess, unlike pure EV or hybrid. It is up to the consumer to use it efficiently.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide So, that fits in line with the percentages I presented. The fact of the matter is, PHEV owners are buying for the subsidies and driving like they used to. Which is gas only usage. PHEVs are not the solution.
Really the same question can be applied to any luxury brand product. If you don’t care about brand, then you’re not the target customer. Honestly brand is the biggest difference between a mainstream vehicle and a luxury brand
A comparably equipped RX350 is more than 50k. There’s always a premium for higher performance and since the majority are leased and will get a $7500 cap cost reduction, the actual cost for the intended consumer is not far off.

Driving dynamics at the far right with Efficiency at the far left. Haha, oof, yup
74k for the fuel economy of the santa fe which is 40k. if driving 15k mi/yr your roi will pay up in 9yrs !
i wonder if the tx will cannibalise rx sales
definitely
It’s not. It’ll actually replace the GX in sales and the redesigned GX will be a low volume product like the LX, LS, and LC.
Love the car? Let me know cuz we got deals that you can’t miss out on and our dealership doesn’t mark up MSRP
The real question is ….is the 450h+ 20K+ better than the RAV4 Prime?
Question answered: Far and Away better Heck all the dog EURO's start at 80K!...get a grip!
Yes
Yes!!!!
Is that a Filson Jacket?
all that touch screen bs means my parents won't be buying one
74k for a suv with a 4 cylinder is crazyyy very disappointing
Wait till you pay 74k for a vehicle with 0 cylinder
Suede on a luxury car is absolutely useless and just another way for manufacturers to cheap out on materials. Those pieces should be leather. Period.
They are only selling black and white exteriors. So frustrating
Where you looking? I see multiple colors east coast
Time to expand your sample size
I never concern myself with fuel efficiency, I'll go for the GV70 3.5T AWD.
GV70 is crap. Might as well go all in on the Germans.
@@naveenthemachineLook at the likes of my comment versus yours before you tell me “no one agrees”.💀
Terrible resale. Don’t do it.
Lincoln Nautilus Made in China, so NOPE
Just like your phone or computer are made in China…
Good, but why bother buying the Lexus, just get the highlander or grand highlander
Really the same question can be applied to any luxury brand product. If you don’t care about brand, then you’re not the target customer. Honestly brand is the biggest difference between a mainstream vehicle and a luxury brand
@$75k grand? how does that make sense? How much gas are you going to save? RX350 is $50k....do the math!
A comparably equipped RX350 is more than 50k. There’s always a premium for higher performance and since the majority are leased and will get a $7500 cap cost reduction, the actual cost for the intended consumer is not far off.
@@naveenthemachinethis is not based off a RAV4.
@@naveenthemachine and the MQB platform from VW underpins the VW Golf and VW Atlas. They are not the same vehicle. Because the platform doesn't mean much when it was designed to be modular. The wheelbase, dimensions, suspension and chassis tuning are all very different. But go ahead and continue to be ✨ uneducated ✨. This isn't your crusty Camry
@@naveenthemachineWho? Why don’t you ask all the RX buyers. And all your buddies who steal RX and ship them to India 😂
@@naveenthemachine You miss the point entirely. The point being that just because a platform is shared, it doesn't mean that the vehicles are even remotely similar in size, ride, and handling. Because there is so much more that goes into how a vehicle rides and drives.
Also, dimensionally, The RX is closer to a Highlander.
Choosing a luxury phev to be "lighter on your pocketbook"? 😂
Your fuel costs will be significantly lower than an equivalent gas model, saving ~1 gallon per day or thousands of dollars a year.
Luxury doesn’t mean comfort without any regard to cost.
Looks so nice, Like my blue one hahah
Really like to buy one but worrying about it being stolen is not worth my time....🤔
why stolen ?
Then better move to a better neighborhood
@@dhuntington6009 Preferably the USA.
Lexus dont make cars for regular people anymore.
The imitation would is so cheap in person. Worse than what you expect on Ikea furniture.
Wow, I'm early!
Way to complicated
Why, why are there paddle shifters on a hybrid?
This is not a sports car or even a sporter kind of car. No need for paddles, no one will ever use the paddles. Please for the love god(or whatever spiritual guide you have chosen) stop putting paddle shifters on cars that DON'T need them or won't use them.
Good review of a bad car.
Thanks
I drive a non-sporty Honda with paddle shifters and I use them frequently to change the CVT gear ratio to engine brake going downhill (I live in a very hilly region) so I’m not riding the brakes all the time. Who died and made you King Knowitall?
@@readyplayer2 nobody had to die. I just assumed the throne.
Lol, bad car. You really take your paddle shifters seriously there fella!
@@ytj22 yep.
Agreed
You lamented the instrument cluster. This piece of silly one eyed gimmick was in the IS for many years. When I thought Lexus was about to dump this garbage ,to my dismay they inflicted it on the ES. LS. LC. and now the EX and TX. Who wants to be playing hide and seek with their instrument gauges while driving ,I am shocked at how many people claiming to be auto reviewers think that it is so cool and clever.I would never buy any Lexus or other vehicle with this ugly sparse Cyclops affliction as I flatly refuse to have to stare at it while around the steering wheel.
He’s right. You’re wrong. Those things matters. Luxury cars have to sweat even the smallest details. Otherwise it looks too economy car like
Garbage tail light design. Massive amount of red plastic, yet you get a sliver of 3 teeny-tiny led lights for brake lights. The most important part. Ken you blew it!
Ok, I'll bite. Who is Ken?
Yeah but =its ugly
Toyota pushing hybrids because they don't know how to build all electric vehicles. Bz4x was a joke of a first ev car.
People aren't buying evs. It's that simple. If Toyota wanted to own the ev market, they could.
EV are a no go because of recharging infrastructure and time to recharge. More expensive...I could go on and on. Even the car companies know it. Until a lot of those deficiencies improve, EV sales will be low and be loss seller at the bottom line.
@kjay5056 what are you talking about? Shell just divested from hydrogen fuel cell by closing all california locations, and have pledged to invest in ev charging stations across the country, plus tesla super chargers are open to most of legacy auto makers, and 7 legacy auto makers already pledged 2 billion dollars to build 30000 charging stations by 2030. Next to tesla, Hyundai/Kia are killing it ev sales.
they know full well how to build them they just don't want to lose money so they made a low volume compliance car bz4x to hold over till battery cost come down. Toyota is making the highlander ev next year.
Yes, BZ4X really seems to be negatively impacting Toyota sales and profits.
I wondered if it would be possible to move one of the electronic boxes underneath in the trunk to allow for either an inflatable or donut tire to be placed there.. Could any of their mechanics move the electronic box to allow a spare tire to be put in if I bought a vehicle?I drive cross country with my husband across Arizona , Texas and New Mexico and there are miles where there are no close cities.I believe Lexus should stay with its core mission of reliability and practicality. I do not need a fancy electronic door handle (where you are locked out if electrical or battery system goes out) or infotainment system where I have to go through 2-3 windows to click on air condition system or fan. I just want simple buttons to get what I need without taking my eyes off the road to look at a screen. The inflatable spare tire that Audi has is innovative and practical. Is lexus planning to ever put in a donut spare tire or smaller tire.
