Now there's something I've never though of, using recruitment to mitigate the plague. Plenty of times I've purposely spread the plague to mitigate squalor in OG Rome (thanks remastered for the squalor cap) but that never occurred to me. Noice
That Generals battle could have be won and the lousy General death avoided, with some charge cycling and lots of running to get them exhausted.

Yeah agreed, gotta take better care of my generals as always. It seems like that should be a good way to mitigate the plague, but we’ll see!

Noooo! That was a great battle at Larissa - but you could have taken the city! If you'd just sent the extremely damaged unit of Scythians down to Thermon, you could have still watched the battle, while your actual army took the city they fought through 2,000 Macedonians just to get to. I think there were mercenary hoplites available to man the ram too. Oh well.
I'm pretty sure 'military ranking' is calculated along the same lines as auto-resolve, ie it overrates numbers and infantry in general. Safe to guess that the Gaulish army is not as scary as it looks on a graph. Also they are at war with the Romans, unlike in your Spanish campaign when there was an unholy Roman-Gaulish alliance.
Taking Campus Scythii will be nice, but it will open up another one of those dreaded, broad, dark frontiers, haha. Not much you can do about it unfortunately, just a part of being Dacia. You'll just have to invest in spies to keep an eye on that doomstack of horse archers. I actually think you'll be well set up to defeat that soon, you just need half a dozen units of chosen archers.

The chosen archers actually are super good as a counter for horse archers! I think it shouldn’t be too bad. The northern border will always be a bit of a challenge but you either never push north of the river or you go alltheway to the end of the map and I think that’s more fun. Also there tend to be a few more river borders you can guard further north.
And yes it is so so nice not worrying so much about the Romans and Gauls now that they’re not buddy buddies. I can’t see the Gauls doing well long term with that many natural enemies on all sides.
