Egypt declaring war on you by blockading a port is such an AI move. They usually lift it a turn or two later as well. The fact that they have an army, of sorts on your border indicates you put surveillance up at just the right time. I think you mastered the sally semi-exploit in this one. Just finessing them back and forth on an angle while they get shot to pieces from the walls. There's something both heartwarming and historically accurate about the Romans resorting to buying barbarian mercenaries.
It is so satisfying seeing Rome resort to the worst mercenaries in the game after beating up on me with Praetorians for dozens of turns. As for as Egypt, I have no idea how that is going to go. I can only assume they have really strong armies with advanced units and a great economy. My guess is I’ll have to win by just bringing an overwhelming amount of cavalry and surrounding every army I encounter. It’s nice they decided for themselves that they are my next enemy instead of me starting a war with some other faction.
