I think you forgot just how many archers you brought to Tarentum, haha. All your Scythians, etc were firing on the general for quite a while, and you had it sped up, so even multiple hitpoint heavy cav got shredded.
I always loved the little touches like famous battle markers on the campaign map. One of the charms of the earlier Total Wars that fell into neglect and disuse further along the line.
Was wondering if you were going to notice that Brutii boat near Tarentum the turn before you assaulted it. Not sure if it was just one ship or not, could possibly have attacked it. I'm curious as to where the Julii are heading with such a big force...

I’ll never be used to the power of archers after the Spanish campaign 🥹
Rome has so many little touches about it that make it so good. It shocks me they had so much good stuff packed into a game in 2004.
I hope the Julii aren’t coming for me but I’m not sure what else they would be going for in that direction. They might have correctly recognized that Dacia is an existential threat to all Roman factions and must be stopped

So, I have watched all of your dacia campaign so far, largely enjoying it. But I must say it is starting to be a bit repetitive, since I can tell it does not give you any chalenge. I mean, killing an army with 3 dacians... I think it would be much more engaging for the wiewer If you actually had to tactically think, be selective about buying troops, solve sudden problems, etc. Maybe think about some self-impaired house rules to make it harder for the next campaign? I like the way you cut your videos tho - no fluf, just the important things.

Thanks for the feedback! I agree, this campaign has gotten a little too easy for my liking. We might have a bit of a shakeup coming soon to make this campaign more interesting 🫡
I think the overpowered nature of the archers / horse archers for Dacia might be standing in the way of an interesting challenge

inevitably total war has a snowballing effect like this for any player who understands the game/units and quirks of gaming the AI, which is why I suggested in his livestream that he takes away some elements of his ability to game the AI when its limited, for instance ravager runs where you attack the closest settlement regardless of what that is and follow that snake, declaring war on whether it takes you... or what some other lp's focus on, which is no peace campaigns.. you declare war on opponents immediately after them becoming visible.
I prefer Shogun and S2 compared to rome, but it's really the same thing, possibly a challenge at the start, engaging a little longer after that - but if you are able to stabilize and muster armies.. midgame is prepping for endgame and endgame becomes something of a formality even on legendary difficulty.

true, it does have a snowball effect. I think maybe house rules could make it better, but on the other hand you want to play to your best ability to enjoy the game. Meaning if you forbid buying mercs, or using diplomacy you are leaving out a big portion of a game and making it grindy. I had more in mind things that break or abuse the AI, like offloading all arrows and then retreating, camping sqare when defending city, selling map information etc... some Vanilla-like mods could fix these issues. And some you cannot control directly - Something that could adres the easy breaking of units, making the AI actually use good units if it can and so on. I am not versed in mods for RTW so i cannot recommend any.
Anyway GL to your next journey.

I'm imagining a Parthia hun campaign where I just rampage the whole map with horse archers, can only exterminate and abandon every city, and have to attack every army I encounter... could make a good livestream @@TheRealNemesisX

Medieval II would definitely be fun because it has way less cheese as long as you don't abuse the crusade mechanics or long range crossbows. Higher morale overall, less OP diplomacy strategies, etc. Rome is just a bit flawed lmao@@shillnar
