This video is immensely helpful. I was about to give up on my AirPods Pro because so many people reported that they could not hear me. I had no idea about that hole in the bottom.
2 years on and your great video is still helping folk! Had some intermittent crackling sounds in right pod for months… watched your video by chance….a judicious bit of careful brushing…and it has immediately gone! Many thanks!!
@@LearnitAllCentralHow can I repair one AirPod not playing sound after being dropped a couple of times? All the cables inside look ok. It is giving some sound once I tilt it but immediately stops.
Spent ton of time looking for a solution for muffled mic sound on audio calls. This actually worked! Most of the people in the internet threads think it's software problem, but seems like it's all about dusty mics. Little mics at the bottom didn't change anything, but when I finished with the black ones on sides - airpods just started to work as new with no problems.
it is an undeniable software problem. Because the mic isn't muffled all around. it is not consistent so it's not something caused by physical gunk affecting the clearness of the call. not to mention: shit call quality outside on this "profesionnal" version is also present on NEW, out of the box airpods
This video just saved me $200 I was on my way to buy a new pair of AirPods thinking mine where messed up. They where just dirty. I followed what you said and now people can hear me when I speak. Good video 👍🏼
That's a great piece of observation and problem solving! Thanks for sharing all this detailed knowledge, will help me keep my Airpods Pro in good shape!!
I had these airpods sitting around for 3 years collecting dust coz the volume was incredibly low. I was going to throw them away... But your video was heaven sent... I would have never thought to suck out the vents. They are almost as new. Thank you.
My right airpod has been horrible lately with lots of static and distortion. I followed the tutorials advice and wiped out the mic at the tip and it works flawlessly!!!!!! THX 10000000000
My first pair of Pros from November 2019 had miserable static in the left bud after 2 months that I couldn't fix no matter what, so I got an AppleCare+ replacement pair in February 2020 and after 2 months developed even worse static in the left bud than the previous pair (and once again, I wasn't able to fix it). As of October 2020 I'm now on my 3rd pair (2nd replacement), and so far so good.
This helped actually helped a lot, I've been dealing with this problem for like months, and I had to keep in off mode. But thanks to you, everything is fixed, thank you so much.
I looked at all mics & cleaned them. I could run my hand over my iPod in that spot and hear it in my ear or on recording but I did not see the mic until watching your video! Thank you! I hope this clears it out!
So it’s only a recall if you have buzzing that is reproducible. I have intermittent loss of signal, but I couldn’t reproduce the buzzing and mine didn’t qualify for the recall. Try Apple Support App and chat to see if yours are eligible.
Wow thank you so much!! I was dealing with the transparency mode cutting in and out with static for months. I didn’t want to get rid of them, I just happened to click on this and it fixed it completely!! Thank you so much lol
Just now im totally annoyed by the hissing sound everytime the bus i ride bumps or vibrates a lot. I just did a hard blow on the mic hole and it immediately fixed the issue! Those apple community forum were useless. Thanks man.
YMMV … Just cleaned mine and the feedback I had in one of them become far worse. But at least now they’re clean, even if the transparency and noise reduction features aren’t usable.
i have issues with my left airpod too… it makes a high pitch noise when i touch it, but this only happens when it’s on transparency mode/noice cancelation.
People couldn't hardly hear me during a phone call. Found your video, cleaned it with a little brush, works great. Thanks for taking the time to show this!
Finally a video out of many I've seen that addresses an issue I'm having. I had no idea about the small tiny microphone at the bottom but it definitely had something to do with what's going on. My issue with mine are that the noise control wasn't functioning correctly. I could turn on any of the three options but wouldn't be able to discern any difference from transparency to noise canceling. I cleaned out the small tiny mic then my right side started working again but left side after cleaning is still will not working correctly. Not sure if I missed something or what. Thank you for making a video about this that others didn't mention.
Thank you so much. I already replaced a pair thinking it was a software issue, then ran into the issue again. A quick deep clean with a alcohol wipe did the trick
Thank you so much for this video. I was hearing a static noise on my AirPods Pro 2 on transparency mode and it was annoying. Therefore, I had to change mine four times. Did everything I could to get rid of it until I found this video. Thank you so much once again. Also, I never knew there was a mic there.
I dropped my right airpod in the snow a few months ago and when I try transparency mode the mic on it barely works. I've tried using a pin, on the top and bottom mics, canned air, and even alcohol. Nothing works.
Wow !!!! I was going bonkers when I played my guitar as my airpods were feeding back like crazy and fading on and off in volume ..... Just a sincere thank you as this totally fixed the problem ..... !!!!!
Hello, I have a problem with the left earbud with the trancparency mode. It works less on the left than on the right. You don't know how to solve it. Is that the mic up there? Thanks
I love you so much I sent them into Apple and they said they couldn’t fix them but the first couple of word you said made me able to fix them I hope u have a great day
+1 on the video. I think this just fixed a family member’s issue with the Air Pods Pro 2. There was an annoying reverb / static problem that occurred constantly when running water, background noise, etc while the AirPods were in Transparency mode.
Good evening. Ivy here from RSA. THANK YOU for sharing g that useful tip on cleaning the Mic. How ever my question is my airpods pro Switch themselves off even though they charged up. And I have just noticed that the power jumps up and down. Please Help🙏🏽

You’re a true hero! I always knew the crackling was a issue with the microphones but I always thought this was just an Air Vent or something, thanks man! Fixed the crackling on my AirPods. Will probably still replace them once stores open again.
my issue is pretty similar but not exactly, so when i use transparency mode, one of them is obviously not as clear as the other one, couldnt find anything about it on the internet currently
I have cleaned all of the vents mics everything even the small hole and nothing helped everything I do won’t help with the transparency mode, I looked at my friends and his aren’t muffled or anything I don’t know if that’s something to do with the technical aspect or not

wow, thank you so much, dont need to bring back my airpods pro !!! after your cleaning tips, all is working fine again !!! Greetings from Belgium ! MANY THANKS !!!!!!!
I’ve been having problems with mine for a while now, and this worked pretty well. I’m probably gonna get some rubbing alcohol to take some time to really clean then, but a small brush did wonders for these. My transparency mode and noise canceling immediately was better. Thank you, I never would have found that tiny hole where the mic is!
I had both of them replaced because they would work with the left, work with the right, but both would not pair together, they also had the static problem. I got them replaced for free, but the left one started crackling again. Got that replaced on Friday. No more problems yet
Can you actually pierce that little hole in the bottom rings? Or is there no mesh? I used a toothpick and it went right through but I don’t know if I pierced through a mesh or not
Good suggestion! I’ve actually have had mixed results with blue tac on screens/mesh. I’m not too concerned about pushing things in to those tiny little mesh covers on that microphone because it is so small. May try blue tac next time to see what the results are
mine doesnt do a static effect it has a weird ass sound when calling someone or when someone calls me, its like a screaming sound of some sorts, and as for the silicon buds or whatever they are called i tried all 3 sizes on my airpod pro 2nd gen and they fall off my ears pretty easily and i dont know what to do, any ideas?

WOW. I didn't even see that hole in the metal band at the bottoms.
Yep, they are supper tiny aren’t they?

Apple is recalling AirPods Pro made before October too, so if there is a problem, get them swapped 👍🏻
