- I asked 3000 people to give every Mario Kart game a rating from 1 to 5, and today we're finding out which games are the most and least popular! From Super Mario Kart to Mario Kart Wii to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, there have been a whole lotta Mario Kart games. And today, we'll rank them once and for all!

I only gave out one 1 star throughout the survey. Kinda wish there were 10 options instead for each track since I ranked these 5 stars (I would probably rank them an 8 or 9 if there were more options): Electrodome, Sunshine Airport, Mount Wario, N64 Rainbow Road, SNES Rainbow Road, GBA Ribbon Road, Super Bell Subway and Big Blue among many others.
I will admit that I've probably only played some of the battle tracks once lol

If this is done again, it should be rating each game from Never Played to 5, so that way less popular games like Home Circuit don't have people who never played voting.
Why? Obviously if you've never played a game or never seen a movie, that's what you're supposed to judge.

I definitely get what you're saying - you can actually leave a row of the survey unfilled in, although I'm sure at least some people have given ratings to games they haven't played. But imo if most people CAN'T logistically play Home Circuit for instance, it SHOULD be low down on the list. But at the end of the day, these ranking videos are really just for fun - I'm sure the data has plenty of other issues too but it's still fun to see what the overall picture of people's thoughts is!

It feels more special to me due to nostalgia, that said I still gotta pick DS, Wii and 8 Deluxe over it for the course variety.
Double dash is good to play with friends, and that's really it. It's really short and really offers nothing when you play single-player. Its whole gimmick basically carries it. Same really goes for 64, good to play with friends but short for single-player.
Mario Kart 8 technically has been out for almost a decade, and I'm still hooked. No other Mario Kart has kept me on the line for as long, not even close.

Mario Kart 8 killed off the Ultra Shortcut. If you get anywhere near out of bounds of the track, you are instantly teleported back in bounds again.
That doesn't make it a bad game. It killed ultra shortcuts, but brought in the best Nitro and Retro courses in the series, with 96 total courses, the greatest item balancing in the series, the most polished online play, and literally the greatest soundtrack in the series. The whole picture is much grander

So many Mario Kart TH-camrs (mainly MKWii ones) rated tracks soldly on shortcuts, most of them talk about how many gap cuts there, gap cuts that, etc.
Mario Kart (and racing game in general) tracks should ranked by the layout, gimmicks, music and overall, just how fun the track is to race on. However, many people seem to forgot about it and ranked purely by "Does it has any shortcuts?" or by how fast so you can finish it.
I hate a lot of things about Mario Kart 8 but Ultras being dead is for the better. Most of them are too difficult to reasonably perform in a race but there's so many that would just completely ruin tracks. Like, imagine playing the game online and just having a race on Wario's Gold Mine where everyone is trying the same shortcut for the whole race, and because the setup is so precise some people spend the whole race getting bumped around and having to reposition to try again. Really cool to see new ones get discovered for Wii, but they aren't great for the game ultimately.
One of the few things the Booster Course Pass tracks have over the base game ones is that they are much more lenient with shortcuts, even if there still aren't any ultras like Wii

I grew up with Mario Kart 64 as I couldn't afford Mario Kart Wii. Later, I would get a 3DS that came with Mario Kart 7, which would be one of my only 3DS games for years, as $40 was a tall order for kid-me. It feels kind of weird to see the Mario Karts which defined me so low, but the reasons people gave make sense I suppose. I still have barely played the "greats" of the series like Wii, DS, and 8/Deluxe; yet I still love this series all the same.
Mario kart wii is definitely my favorite mario kart game. Its the first game i ever played ,so im gonna be Nastolgic, the gameplay is great, it still holds up to this day and the soundtrack is a bop.
Never owned a 3DS myself nor played Mario Kart 7, but I'm damn sure that title didn't deserve such a low ranking simply for carrying the BEST Rainbow Road track and music of the entire series.
Yes, Mariokart 7 is the second best Mariokart after 8 deluxe.
mario kart 7 is generally criticized for having no VS mode and for being made pretty much obsolete due to 8 being basically the same game but better. I love 7 but those are fair criticisms tbh

Yes but then again it was from the least to most popular. More people owned a Wii, a DS and a Switch. Not as many people had a 3DS.

I feel like Tour's rating is a bit unfair, the gatcha elements are gone which I'm immensely happy about and it's why I picked the game up again
I would love if i could connect a controller to tour, I'm still upset Nintendo hasn't added bluetooth controller support yet
But if you need something to do randomly on the bus or in a waiting room, Tour is fun to just pull out for a few minutes

I think it's fair though, just because it's low doesn't mean it bad, but it isn't a full Mario Kart game and is rather just a weird app spinoff.

It has 170 unique tracks and 446 tracks if you count all the variations like being able to drive backwards on a track or adding new paths and ramps. That's a whole lot of cool tracks to explore
I just hope that someone will preserve it before Mario Kart Tour eventually stops its service so that people can still play these tracks when they want to and it doesn't become lost media.
Yeah, outside the gacha mechanics it has some really neat ideas, like driving a course backwards! (I really hope they bring that back as a cup idea, like with Mirror Mode)
It also gave us some fun Tour maps in the MK8 Booster Pack, where each lap is a different route. They're confusing but actually a lot of fun and gives more replay value
I absolutely love Wave 6. I love how Pauline references Jump Up, Super Star! by singing 'high up in the sky' when you get airtime and 'I'm the 1-Up girl' when you win.
I _also_ love that you can see the Gateway Galaxy in the distance in the background of Rosalina's Ice World.
I *ALSO* love that we finally got Wii Rainbow Road.
I *_ALSO_* love the texturing. Sure, the buildings on Daisy Circuit are still a bit blocky, but aside from that its basically at pre-DLC standards!
I also love the music feature! I could go on for hours!
The rankings are pretty spot on over all except Double Dash deserves higher.

And Mariokart 7 ? Objectively the best track selection at launch, excellent controls, nearly perfect in all aspects. Yet it barely edges out Mariokart 64, a game with an awful track selection and that honestly controls like shit. Nostalgia aside, Mariokart 7 is tied with Wii for the second MK game after 8 deluxe. And tied for the best if we consider 8 at launch

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the most popular, though Mario Kart DS is still my favorite one to this day. Awesome controls and heavy nostalgia combined with Dry Bones in the Dry Bomber and having a solid track selection makes it perfection beyond its limits.

I just took the survey for the courses, and I’m so excited! I wish I could have provided some written feedback- feedback for each course seems like a lot, but maybe for each cup. There are a few of the retro courses that I love in their original games but I think MK8 did a serious disservice to… (Coconut Mall, N64 Rainbow Road, DK Summit)… but I’m still pumped to see the next video! 😄

people don't give mario kart 7 enough credit. it introduced so many mainstay gimmicks, but just couldn't sell well for being on an underselling console. it crawled so 8 could run.
it could be worse. it could've been on the gamecube. actually quite surprised that double dash isn't lower than 64 on this list.

Double Dash is my personal favorite entry. Great track roster, the most unique handling model, and at least to me it feels like the fastest, twitchiest game in the series.
13:37 WHO is this?!?! Every time I listen to practically any MK8DX song and hear that incredible slap bass I am just floored and wonder who the heck is playing this?! I love bass and am just blown away by this person's skill. Especially in the end credits that were shown after the last wave of the DLC. There is some insane slap bass. Does anyone know?

They actually did this again in one of the arcade games, it has a Duo mode so once you use a certain power up you and the other players cars will fuse like in DD

My first Mario kart was 8dlx and I gotta say it’s hands down the most fun racing game I’ve ever played, I’m looking forward to buying the booster course pass sometime this week.
Quick correction: Arcade GP DX has a side mode where you can merge karts mid race (similar to Crash: Tag Team Racing), meaning there's 2 games where there's 2 racers in 1 kart.
Mario Kart 7 is a timeless classic. I used to be obsessed with MK7, it is just so perfect to me...
It was my first, and it’ll always be special to me.
I feel like a lot of people voted "1" on games they never played. 64 shouldn't be so low on the list. It not only introduced some of the series most iconic aspects (drift for boost, ramps, and of course, the blue shell), but had physics and controls that make the game replayable today, even if the graphics are a little dated.
I love the way Mario Kart Tour plays, personally. Not great as a racer but it's fun to try and maintain a combo for as long as possible.
The microtransactions, and the way having "the wrong kart parts" would screw you over in a race, was what made me drop it. It's hard to feel motivated to play when not paying for gacha can leave me destined to failure.
It's at least easier than ever to get into now, ironically now that new content has wrapped up. The removal of gacha and the now-limited track pool means you can fairly readily amass a collection of the game's best items
One of the things I loved about Double Dash as a kid was the fact you could co-op!
I wasn't very good at video games, but even before I really knew how to play Mario Kart, Dad and my older sister let me play the back seat as an item thrower. They even told me when to punch for them 😂
I wish they'd bring that back for newer players who are just beginning and not confident enough to drive yet.

8:28 also, most people fail to acknowledge that MK64 produced the most engaging in-person multiplayer experience that no online tournament can do. There was nothing like it - my friends and I meeting up after school in the 90's. Online meetups don't recapture the same level of experience.
Tour was done dirty. I’m guessing a good chunk of the people who filled the survey played Tour at launch then never touched it again. I would have split Tour between pre-2022 Battle Tour and post-2022 Battle Tour and have people vote based on when they played it. It would also show how much the game has improved too.

Something I'd really love to see in Mario Kart 9 is a score attack mode.
Getting combos going in Mario Kart Tour is the absolute best part of the game.
What do think about a Team score attack mode for multiplayer? I'm surprised multiplayer in Tour ended up so simplistic and "unclear as to why my team won"

Most of these videos from you that I've seen has the most recent entry at the top of the list. Not sure to what extent this is a testament to how great the Switch is, or just how young your audience is. I suspect it's a bit of both though. I've played every Nintendo home console and handheld since the NES (except for Virtual Boy) and the Switch is my favorite. It has the most solid lineup of games for sure and being both home console and portable was a genius move.
It feels like the audience voting on these surveys is very young - it's always the newest stuff that gets voted highest. Seems like folks are just voting for what is most popular now

If super Mario kart and mario kart 64 rank this low, it's because they have poor controls, poor track selection and barely any content, they are just dated.
What I think is true is that the generation that grew up during the 2000 with mariokart wii and DS heavily influenced the rankings through nostalgia
Nah mate. I grew up with double dash and I love that game, beat it several times. But, even I can agree where it's at on this list, there's no topping the mk8 polish
Wii is my #1 and 8 is my # 2 and wii bests it by a landslide. Wii is the only entry in the series where you can pop a wheelie on your bike for a speed boost. Taking speed instead of handling was an incredible addition and it's what made the bikes really stand out. When that was removed, Nintendo removed gold.

You high? That was part of the reason bikes were too overpowered in wii, leaving karts near useless (rip blue falcon and wild wing) there is a reason they were nerfed in 8. And you can't say a game is better based off a single mechanic that couldn't even be pulled off well on some courses, especially when the rest of the controls suck.

I liked bikes on the wii version. The steering was super responsive on the wii. I've never had a problem with it. Also popped wheelies on every course.

My favorite memory of Mario kart DS is my dad hitting himself in the face with the DS while trying to do a trick because he was so used to playing on the Wii

Mario Kart tour was unfairly rated in my opinion. It’s been severely approved and offers loads of good stages and nice characters. The controls aren’t even that hard

the paywalls and the controls are the things that threw me off, i thought they would make mario kart on the go, and what we got is mario kart but made for Patrick Star
@@the__charlyy3253 I also hate the controls and that alone makes it really unenjoyable. Even Super Circuit has better controls too and it's not even that, the paywalls alone are the biggest issue I have with this game. While it's no longer a gacha game, it's still poorly designed just like it was back then. Thankfully all the Tour tracks can now be playable in MK8DX when Tour inevitably dies in the near future.

One thing that unfortunately no one mentions is the so much worse scoring system in online ranking in MK8 compared to MKW. In MKW the score represented your skill. In MK8 it represents more your online playtime. When it was increased from 9k to 99k back then, it had become too silly for me to grind the points as they had become worthless anyway.

There is absolutely no reason that F-Zero should be a better racing game than Super Mario Kart, but it is.

7 sweeps wii dominates 8 destroys. Double dash Mollywhops it. DS kicks it to the curb. 6 at best
MK7 has its issues, but it will always stand out to me as one of the best. I may be influenced by nostalgia, but you can’t argue that its track selection, music and gameplay are amazing. It also introduced gliders and kart customization (DS had prebuilt karts, that doesn’t count) as well as, in my opinion, handling the drift mechanic the best. The only gripes I really have about it are the fact that you need *20,000* coins to 100% the game now (and coin collecting is super slow) and the fact that holding the drift button kinda hurts after a while. It can be pretty challenging at times too! It’s definitely not the best, but it’s up there!

Most of these I agree with, but IMO, I feel like MK64 should have been higher.
People have a bias against older games because of bugs, bad graphics, and other stuff. But MK64 is incredibly well made and is one of the top 5 imo.

Double Dash holds a very special place in my heart for being my very first exposure to Mario Kart outside Arcade GP, and the only GameCube game I had for a while. An absolute blast to return to and nostalgic as all get out. But I can't deny that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe + BCP perfected the game. It restored my love for Mario Kart. MK8 is king for sure, but MKDD will always be a second by just a fraction of a hair.
ill never forget when mariokart tour came out, everyone in my high school was playing the hell out of it for a couple days. i tried out the tutorial but didnt even bother finishing it, it controlled awfully.
after those first few days i heard nothing else about it. everyone seemed to have dropped it suuuper quick. which i think says a lot abt the game.
Double Dash is the only retro entry that has anything unique making it worth going back to unless you really enjoy missions from DS

@@TheGalaxyWingsdepends on where you draw the line between what is and isn’t retro. For me I feel like things that are under 20 years old aren’t retro so I feel like double dash being from the early 2000s feels retro while Wii still feels pretty old but not quite retro I guess.

This is actually a perfect list! Wii is my favourite but I’m biased because that was my first MK. DS I also love!
Tour is actually really good if you switch to manual drift controls; that takes the game from feeling abysmal to pretty solid. If you put the time in to improve your drivers, karts, and gliders, the score attack element becomes really compelling as well. And all the variants remixing familiar tracks are fun. Realistically, it should probably at best be below 64, but I still enjoy playing it even with new content having wrapped up.

Yeah, kind of wish the poll had been structured differently. Ask which games you've played first then ask you for ratings on those games. I really think that's why Tour was rated so low. Most of the justifications I've seen are clearly from people who haven't played it or played it once during its first week. There's an insane amount of hate for what I would consider to be one of Nintendo's better mobile games.

I agree with you, 7 was not done justice here. It's gameplay wise a major improvement over DS. Even without mission mode, it didn't deserve to be lower than DS, let alone right next to 64 which is one of the weakest in the series.
I say this despite DS being one of the most nostalgic game for me, alongside Wii.

The thing with Mario kart tour is the people judging the game probably haven’t played it recently so their opinion is likely outdated if they were to vote there should be something where they play it recently since the game has gotten bettet

Plant: You can’t get rid of it easily, sometimes a detriment to have if you want a different item. It feels like the Chain Chomp but boring
Horn: get out of blue shell card, nothing much else just kinda boring
Fire flower: incredibly spammable. Someone can just flood a section of the track with 10 super fast projectiles that bounce everywhere. Honestly think Double Dash did fire better
Crazy 8: I don’t know if this is supposed to be a comeback item or an item that causes chaos but it fails at both while being a lazy idea

I honestly think I prefer Wii and ds in terms of the item pool because they have so much less filler. Like I genuinely prefer the POW block and mega mushroom over any item 8 introduced, but that’s just my opinion (except boomerang that item’s pretty nice)

Okay, i get why people say Mario Kart Tour is the worst. However, as the booster course showed, it would be by far the best if it got ported to anything besides mobile.

never got to play mario kart growing up aside from when my best friend growing up let me do download play on the bus. i was pretty bad at it (still am!), but every time i would get ahead of her, she would push me out of the bus seat into the isle. that deep seated memory aside (ha), i've only played any of the other mario kart games a handful of times as an adult. to say i'm bad at them is an understatement. i got to play the original mario kart for the first time in 2022 with some of my best friends and they're super competitive and "toxic gamers" (in a funny way), but when one of them saw JUST how behind them i was and that i was essentially lost on the map, she tried to double back so i wouldn't be in last place LMAO
It’s not fair that Double Dash is hated. Double dash deserves more love especially more than Mario Kart 64.

Definitely a hot take, but Mario kart 8 is incredibly good, but it's not that good.
For one, a lot of the tracks sit firmly in good, but not great. Actually, that's about it. Otherwise it's pretty good, it's just that most of the tracks are good, ut not great.
I will acknowledge the amazingly good ones though. Electrodrome, big blue, and Mute city are all amazing tracks, and obviously a number of retro tracks are great.
I hate wario stadium though, that was an amazing track fom ds, and now it's an unrecognizable piece of garbage.
Anyways, I place 8 at 3rd, DS at 2nd, and Wii at 1st.
Original mk8 was a pretty good game, probably one of the best in the series, but it has a few things holding it back
Bad battle mode, most tracks are just ok and that's it, plenty of fan-favorite characters missing, and items balance feeling stale and samey
(8dx almost doesn't seem fair to compare when considering it's had base game, 1 rerelease, 2 dlcs and plenty of updates to polish and add content to the game)
Really? Cuz I enjoy a lot more than just mount wario and big blue.
Tour is a fun game, the best part is new tracks show off, like new cities and its new music and figuring out the layout, good times fr

Even though Double Dash and Super Circuit where my first MK games, I have enjoyed the handheld titles more, with the exception of SC which imo has aged, but DS and 7 are amazing and so comfy to play on your bed our couch chilling.
I still think Mario kart wii is the hands down the best family/friends Mario kart. Low barrier to entry, but able to be played competitively. The biggest problem with Mario kart 8/deluxe is the difficulty in getting a round set up with my family. Too many options, no automatic drift mode, and you have to make sure the auto steer and auto gas aren't turned on.
Automatic existed because Manuel sucked. 8 didn't need automatic because it's drifting is top tier.

6:40 Mario Kart Tour ?? Hello ?! i purchased this phone (an upgrade) specifically to enjoy Mario Kart Tour.
I think I ended up playing Mario kart 8 the most (if not wii) given that there was a time that I had no internet and wasn't in the mood to play a lot of games I had so I just stuck with Mario kart 8 for like a good few months just putting on some nice music and playing as many tracks in one go on 200cc. That was back before it came out on switch. Now I have all three stars on every single cup as of last night!
My favorite ones are Super Circuit for its technicity, and Wii, for both its competitiveness and track layout (and custom tracks of course...)
Home Circuit is a spinoff of a spinoff (Main Mario Kart series ) of a spinoff (Mario series as a whole) of the base game (the first Donkey Kong)
Imagine losing one of the toy cars for Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, so you boot the game up to help find it, and the first thing you see is your dog chewing on it in the other room
We need a console collection of the arcade mario kart games, there was one i played when i was a kid once and i absolutely loved it
Edit: i also fond it interesting how for the most part, people consider the mario kart games as getting better with each release. I mean, i agree. It's just interesting to see because in most video game series, people consider some of the older games as the better ones
Nah but tour deserved to be rated waaaay higher, it’s improved waaaay better since it’s released and people just never bothered to give it a chance once the game improved. Sure the game may not have the best controls but really, what mobile game does since you literally only have touch controls more often than not? as a player from day 1 I’ve seen the game be improved *massively* and became way more player friendly with the swap from the gacha system to the character shop and separating sides of the screen for items and steering (especially with a dedicated steering button!) and the wide range of characters and vehicles. Plus, it gave us some of the best tracks in the 8D booster pass.
Mario Kart Wii is the best.
8 Deluxe is a worthy successor.
Double Dash is awesome and unique.
Tour is over-hated for how good it is.
DS is pretty good but let down in a few areas.
Super Circuit is unanimously underrated.
Mario Kart 7 is pretty decent

For me, imho, there is nothing better than, *MKDD!!!* I played it w/my siblings, endlessly! We even got on that unofficial online playing version. Ahhhh...memories!!!
Nintendo should make Mario Kart tracks that you could play on in Super Nintendo World if you bring your Nintendo Switch and Mario Kart Live kart. First, you go to Super Nintendo World with your Switch and Kart, second, you walk into a room and you sign up to be part of a race, third, you race with other people on Mario Kart tracks, and last, they check if someone had the most points, they win. I don't think Nintendo will do this but I wish they do.
12:38 Mario Kart 8 Deluxe might be my favorite Mario Kart game, but Mario Kart Wii is probably my second favorite (and I'd give third favorite to Mario Kart 7, even though I haven't played it very much.) Had a lot of fun with MKWii with my cousins.
Double Dash will always be my favourite. It's the one I still own and occasionally play on my Gamecube
