  • This is the eighty-seventh in a series of videos I’m going to produce to document the building of my Trumpeter 1:200 model Titanic. In this episode I cover:
    - Fitting the coaling outriggers.
    - Fitting the 25ft emergency cutter boats.
    - Fitting the sounding spars.
    - The electronics behind the navigation lights.
    - Fitting navigation lights on the foremast and the poop deck.
    If you want to see more regular updates have a look at my Instagram page (same name as the channel). I post photos as I'm building there so you don't have to wait for the videos to be edited!

    No words can describe this stunning work of art you've produced, makes me all the more eager to start on my 1/200 Gneisenau as soon as I can. You've no doubt done the real thing some justice in this series, and all those who sailed on her.. victim and survivor alike. The finished result will the mind blower, well done 👏

      @@TheModelBoatGuy It's been excellent, truly excellent. You've done a 1st class job. If you plan to make any further 1/200 ships I know they will be true works of art. Get yourself a good cold drink, it's a ship builder's reward and an honor to the vessel. 👍

    I've followed this build from the first episode and it's been one of my favourite TH-cam indulgences so far! Thank you for posting all the episodes and congratulations on a superb model. . I think the only thing you haven't done is squirted yourself in the eye with superglue accelerant, which I thought was traditional for modellers.

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Crikey that might be a modeller’s tradition that I forgo! Not sure I fancy squirting anything much in my eyes.
      Thank you so much for following throughout, it’s been a genuine privilege to build the model with such support.

    I will never not lose a few brain cells trying to understand all the mathematics, not even with the help of a jaunty tune. At the end of each recent video, I always marvel at how complete she looks, then you add all these small details in your next videos and they just keep elevating the model to another level of realism. Funnily enough, I'd only just learned of the immense work required to refuel these ships, although I did wonder why they couldn't have come up with a less complex process, such as using coal chutes instead? I wonder if installing the rigging will be as delicate a job as anticipated?

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Garry,
      Haha the maths stuff is annoying. I had very similar feelings when I first learned it all.
      It’s one of those things really, I reckon you could go on and on adding more detail, but at a certain point it has to be finished I guess! Not a huge amount more to do now though, really is just into finishing touches.
      As always thank you for the comment.
      Yeah I saw quite a good video on coaling recently, sounds absolutely horrendous! It’s incredible ships weren’t all just coated in dust. It’s no winter they changed over to oil as soon as they could even though it was more expensive.
      WRT rigging, it was fiddly, and a bit of a trial and error job. But all done now. Hope to have the video up this week 🙂

    Hi Rob, nicely done in the end. The nav light looks really good perched up the mast, nicely thought out. I see what you mean about the cutters, cementing them to the hull was a good idea. Nice to see someone also doing lights on the mast. I did the rigging idea, but my LED wires that substituted as rigging went to the side down into the bow deck corners. And yes I made these rigging lines up, but unless one is a die hard Titanic enthusiast one would not know they were added. Than I glued the wires to the underneath of the bow deck like you did for the stern nav light and connected to a power source.

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Daryl, nice to hear from you!
      Yeah I think that’s a good way to go really. It’s one of those things as you say. Probably less than 0.1% of the people that see your model will clock that the rigging is made up, so it’s a good compromise.
      If my LED ever fails I might change the wiring to suit as you’ve done,

    Just in case others are stuck with the mast navigation light, Andrew Model 3d Space has created a resin mast either for pontos or KA sets (or you can have both) that allows the cable to run inside the mast.

      Hi there, so I’m trying to make this model as accurate as possible to the genuine Titanic that sailed in 1912. Although I’m a fan of the film there are several inaccuracies. Titanics funnels were not lit (I agree it looks better with the lighting, but it wasn’t done!), and of course Jack and Rose were not actually on the ship.
      For me getting the model as accurate as possible it the main aim 🙂

    I may have just noticed this, in the pictures it appears that some of the portholes are not lite. I know someone has done research identifying which cabins were unoccupied and assumed to be dark during the voyage. Did you use this information and black out some portholes or is it just the camera angle making some portholes look dark?

      Yeah these are almost inevitable! Since this video I have repaired most of them, but the annoying thing about a model where bits have to be lifted on and off every so often is that often cracks appear over time, so you end up fighting an endless battle!

      @@TheModelBoatGuydefinitely a good idea, Will you ever sail her or did you build her too precious, to cheat history? I've been watching you on & off now from the beginning, and you went above & beyond on your Titanic. I wouldn't blame you, if she never sees a drop of water, although some nice shoots of her at dusk floating in a mill pond with her lights reflecting off the water would be epic. Beautiful job my friend. 😜👍👍

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      So, good question.
      From looking at photos I think the reality is that the inside of the frames were brown. This might not have been paint, could well have been the putty or whatever held the panes of glass in the window frames.
      So in short I think there was a small amount of brown, but probably not as much as I have added via those brass frames.
      I might have a look at removing and redoing with a steady hand.
