Just did my genealogy today. My family moved to Brooklyn, Kings, New York in 1688!! That was before 1776. So crazy. My 8th great grandfather served in the 1812 war.

Like most of us, my great grandparents immigrated to New York via boat in the early 1900's and started life. My Nana was born & raised in Albany, NY & when my mom was 3 in 1965, my Nana took a train from NY to LA to work for technicolor & thats how we came about 25 years later

As a native NewYoker, I always thought NYC was bigger than life. It was a piece of land of opportunity and still is. It's all about "Attitude." "If you can make it New York, you can make it anywhere. " That phrase was said many times and it's so true. Even some people who were at their lowest point of their lives, somehow find their way to survive. That's what a real New Yorker is about! NYC FOREVER! #1!

Bro, do you hear yourself? You're setting yourself up for a serious let down. #1 its NY the concrete jungle, where anybody can get eaten by the jungle, even the natives. #2 you're asian, and unfortunately for some reason, theres some hate being thrown your way in NY. Hopefully when you visit, all will be well n groovy and your time here will be memorable...But again, this is no ordinary jungle and just like every jungle, if you dont watch your back, you won't make it out alive. Dont be paranoid, cuz they can smell fear and itll make your situation worse...be kool, just be aware of your surroundings. Again, its NY, anything can pop off and it dont have to have a thing to do with you. Follow those bit of nuggets when you roll out you'll be good.

The Dutch influence was pretty strong in New York early on. So strong in fact that even one of our earlier president's spoke Dutch as a first language.

Great documentary, but there are several drawings that are erroneously used to depict various years in the history of the city. For instance, the drawing used to depict the year 1700, is in fact from the late 1800s. Back in 1700, NYC was a town of nearly 5,000 inhabitants. Also, even though a small section of what is today the Bronx County used to be part of New York County when it was consolidated with the city, the rest of the Bronx County was also incorporated to the city as one of the five boroughs. Other than that, great video.
