    Do you add water to your formulations? If so, is there a need for a preservative when alcohol is also used?

    • @JoeSCENTMe
      @JoeSCENTMe  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I never added water to the creation I made under the supervision of Daniel Josier in Nigeria. It was primarily the perfume oils and perfumer’s alcohol. I’m sure there’s other fixatives or whatever could go into it but for the purposes of creating a sprayable perfume what I did worked.

    I began making my own fragrances about 2 1/2 years ago as a winter hobby. It took me an entire year to buy supplies alone and another 6 months reading and learning, before even TOUCHING anything (you know, learning about bases, mid notes, and top notes, the fragrance wheel, etc.) I now have at least two or three wonderful fragrances but can't get anyone to try them. I have shopped them around to people I do business with, like my stylist's salon, my aesthetician, and small local boutiques. How do you get to that next step? What does denatured alcohol means?

    • @JoeSCENTMe
      @JoeSCENTMe  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Denatured alcohol is used as a solvent and as fuel for alcohol burners and camping stoves. Because of the diversity of industrial uses for denatured alcohol, hundreds of additives and denaturing methods have been used. The main additive has traditionally been 10% methanol, giving rise to the term "methylated spirits". Other typical additives include isopropyl alcohol, acetone, methyl ethyl ketone, methyl isobutyl ketone, and denatonium.[2]

    What are you talking about, Amber & Ambergris are two different Notes.

    • @JoeSCENTMe
      @JoeSCENTMe  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes they are. You are correct. There are many types of amber. Grey Amber is ambergris (in French) 😉 There’s also the sweeter resinous amber colored amber accord because true fossilized amber doesn’t smell like anything.

    Missing here, in my opinion, are Citrus (especially Bergamot), Florals (especially Hedione and Lavender), Iso E Super, Vanillin. Considering "Musk" is a family of fragrances, same with "Aldehydes" and "Balsams", feels like this list isn't always about specific ingredients.
    Kinda feel like a "Top 10 Most Common Specific Perfumery Materials" and "Top 10 Most Common Fragrances Families In Perfumery" would be a better way to structure the videos. Maybe with links to the other video in the description.

    These are definitely not the top ten fragrance ingredients - with the exception of aldehydes. The fragrance industry rarely uses civet and ambergris (whale vomit). Eugenol and hydroxycitronellal are used but your assessment is so random. These are both fragrance allergens and perfumers make efforts to minimize their use.

      It’s an old list from several years ago. I’m sure there’s many more ingredients I haven’t covered. Please keep in mind this was one of my first videos for my channel.
