Alan was dreaming of the Raptor because in one of the scenes he was talking to the parrot, asking if his name is Alan. He asked the parrot to take a deeper look into birds intelligence. The bird didn't answer giving Alan the believe they were not that smart after all. The nightmare changed that with the Raptor giving him the answer instead.

The movie had a lot of production problems as Joe Johnston threw away the original script saying it was "a bad episode of Friends."
The script involved a group of teenagers getting stranded on the island following a plane crash.
They encounter a hermit living in a tree house who turns out to be Alan Grant having snuck onto the island to study the dinosaurs in their natural habitat.
The idea of teens getting stuck on the island became the basis for JURASSIC WORLD Camp Cretaceous.

Dude!!!!! I literally wrote a fanfic of that exact same story In 2016. Except their were minor diffrences. I wrote a story about a boy named Jack grant. This is Alan and ellie grants son. He is graduating high-school and for his last summer vacation, he and his friends decide they want to see a view of site B. Before going there seperate ways. His best friend has a rich daddy with a private jet. They sneak on board during the night, after Alan refuses his son of that trip. But like a rebellious teenager. He goes anyway, partially because the girl of his dreams is going. aka Adelaide Smyth. and this might be his last shot at seeing her and gaining the confidence to tell her how he's felt about her all these years. But What started as a great experience, quickly ends when the pilot who at this time is drunk, crashes the plane on the island, upside a cliff next to a waterfall. It only gets worst from there. As Pteranodons attack the upsided plane. Taking out the pilot and co pilot and leaving the plane to fall twords the bottom of the cliff. Jack and most of his friends survive. They then try finding the beach. Knowing a little about the dinosaurs from Alan grants research and experience with dinosaurs, Jack decides to leads the way twords the ocean. they come across a facility However, with the name ingen embedded. Jack and his friends explore the facility and come across multiple scientist including Henry wu. But then they meet the real man in charge. Lewis dosgson. Who isn't thrilled at finding a group of teenagers on the island. Then knowing Jack's last name. dodgson figures he's a spy, considering that both grant and Malcom have had their suspicions and theories of ingens agenda and projects for the future. He then throws jack and his friends back into the outdoors for the dinos to finish them off. Which for the most part they do.
Long story short, jack and the Ade end up being the only ones left to survive. However, before throwing the teens out the door of the facility. dodgson injected Adelaide with a serum that sends the carinovors of that island, into a frenzy. Jack helps her excape but at the cost of his own chance at making it home. He distracts a trex giving Adelaide enough time to start a boat and sail away, leaving jack grant on the island alone. It would have continued up into jurrasic world dominion where jack is working for byosyn or ingen and Alan and ellie join Clare and Owen into whatever the plot of dominion is and having a reunion with jack grant.
That was my spin if we had a chance to rewrite jurrasic park 3. Haha it would have been the coolest jurrasic park story ever and the darkest one by far. I'm not a big fan of 3 it is by far my least favorite and I'm alittle disappointed that they didn't go with that plot of teenagers being stranded because of a plane crash. Oh well, so excited for dominion!!!!!!!
Lol to bad I wasn't born in the 1980s.

The Scan Command/Dinosaur Battles game had a similar storyline where a bunch of campers become stranded on Sorna, to eventually meet an estranged man living in a tree house, that happens to be one of three human clones of Sorna's native tribesmen.

Yay! Another Jurassic Park 3 fan!! I believe the "Alan" scene was intentionally incorporated as comic relief to make the audience feel "comfortable" with the raptors (most likely laughs in the theaters) before the rest of the plot where the dinosaurs and raptors are hunting and killing off the crew. All in all, I think it brought to light a unique element and theme that wasn't explored in the previous films: the repercussions of genetic manipulation and ethics behind it (which has been re-introduced in JW series). While JP3 had some downsides, I think it was one of the more thrilling/dramatic/horror movies. I also think it introduced a "new era" to the JP series (reintroduced an "old era"). I remember the iconic poster where instead of the T-Rex it's a completely different dinosaur. What dinosaur could it be?!? Remember, this was in an era where people didn't post theories, spoilers, or even do that much research online.

JP3 was always special to me because I was growing up around its hype and fallout. I genuinely think that despite its issues it does have allot to say within the thematic Jurassic Park narrative.
Just like the two movies before, it was about parenting, nature, and man playing God. For a little context, Jurassic Park was about parenting, with Alan and Ellie standing in for male and female genders, and Hammond being represented as God (the father) with his futile attempt at controlling powerful natural forces he helped bring to life. The Lost World is in turn about Ian Malcolm maintaining that existing familial relationship, both with his daughter and girlfriend, while Hammond (God) is hands-off, leaving his creations free.
JP3 is the culmination of those thematic narratives, and Hammond's posthumous redemption. The Kirby's are the first married couple in the franchise (albeit separated) and God is entirely absent from his Jurassic world. While the Kirby's are trying to save their son by any means possible, it's Billy, Grant's own partner and protégé, that becomes corrupted by the power of the island (much like Nedry, Yoder, and Ludlow, men who broke apart families, either human or dinosaur, through their greed) by stealing the raptor eggs. Ultimately, he redeems himself by saving the youngest Kirby. Likewise this is the first movie where raptors are given redeeming qualities, once their family is reunited, they're content without bloodshed. Thus putting to rest Hammond's failure as a father to his creations.

I always loved JP3 especially cause my boy Alan was back and I always liked Isla Sorna more then Isla Nublar. The spinosaurus was one of the most intimidating dinosaurs and it’s backstory is pretty interesting since it’s supposed to be somewhat of a hybrid since I believe spinosaurus is supposed to be on all fours instead of being bipedal. To this day idk how those boat drivers died. I love some of the sequences from the spino vs T. rex, the raptor in the lab, the raptor chase scene, a kill that made me cringe when the raptor put its claw in the dudes back, and sm more. Is it a perfect film no but I always have a great time.

I didn't even know the Spinosaurus existed until I watched the film, which made it even more exciting when I first watched it. Every time I rewatch it, I still get joy from it! I never get bored with this film, it almost feels you like you never get a break, which I like! The Original Script of Jurassic Park 3, it was suspenseful and noir, everyone who was cast for the film change during filming, Kirby and Eric was originally Paul and Miles, Paul was a rich business person who help Alan to get to site b, different dinosaurs were not feature in the final cut, the story was that in Costa Rica, people were dying from something, Alan and billy investigate it, they even explore more of bird cage sequence, also the Spinosaurs was suppose to be killed by the raptors
One Note: The Spinosaurs is confirm to be a first hybrid since they cross genetics and Wu help made those raptors because he wanted to add feathers to them, also that horn dinosaur was suppose to be another dinosaur from Disney's Dinosaur, but can't due to claim of the Dino at that time

It would make a lot more sense to show the ones they escaped from in the first movie and THEN the new design would be revealed later on.

I took my favorite raptor with me and I’m like you I’m a fan of this movie because dr grant is my favorite character as well. I remember not liking the lost world as much as I did this one because of no grant haha

Now that I think about, I DID always prefer Jurassic Park 3 more than The Lost World. Obviously I prefer the first film, but I liked this movie a lot more as there were a lot more things I found myself enjoying. Aside from Alan Grant, I really liked the Kirby family, the pterodactyls, the spinosaurus. This movie was just so much fun!

The movie did a good job fooling us into thinking Billy was dead and the end reveals that he actually survived his brutal attack. At one point William H Macy's character came close to dying and I thought he landed right into the fire.

Just finished rewatching it in 4k. JP3 is soo underrated, it works so good with less human characters actually. Many dinosaurs behave like real animals, some dinosaurs are advanced like Updated raptors with a few feathers, so is the Spinosaurus. Lets be real, this one is peak Spino in our imagination. Most people don't know, but the Bird Cage scene and the River scene are taken from the first book. That was unused in the first movie.

I like this movie too. It was a nice change of pace to have the Spinosaurus as the main dino for a change and it was good to see Alan Grant back. I also liked the new raptors that had quills and the birdcage.
It's also the shortest Jurassic Park movie at 90 minutes so it doesn't waste time getting to the dinosaur action. Also now we know through material for Fallen Kingdom that the Spino was Doctor Wu's first attempt at creating a hybrid dinosaur. Also this was the first Jurassic Park movie I had on DVD as a kid as well as playing the GBA game "The DNA Factor" so there is just a smidge of nostalgia.

I was born in 93 so obviously Jurassic Park was like a dream come true for every kid in the 90s! The second I liked also but I was a kid so the flaws do not stick out like when viewing something as an adult! Part 3 I actually seen in theaters which it made the experience 10 times better! All 3 films were part of my childhood so I love them all plus they remind me of my dad who passed away in 07 who watched them with me so naturally I have a soft spot for them!

This film holds a special place in my heart. I actually seen part 3 before the other two films when I was a kid. This film got me hooked on the Dino addiction. The lost world is my favorite of the series but man, part 3 was on a different level. I agree with your point of view, this film was more of a horror movie than an action movie. The first time I seen the spinosaurs running after the cast, I too ran from the TV screen.

Well, I love all three Jurassic Park movies. They were all good. And mostly the parts that still give me chills every time I see the third one, is the Raptor killed Jeter and when the Pteranodon walked towards Eric on thr bridge. I don't care what people say or think about this, I think Jurassic Park 3 is great.

  • @PurpleLugia

4:49 So far you seem to think that JP3 took place on Isla Nublar, the island of JP1, but that's inaccurate. It takes place on Isla Sorna, same as JP2. The Park is not on this island, and Alan hadn't been to Sorna yet. When Alan said nothing could get him on "that island", in context he was referring to Sorna. Malcom breaking his NDA about Nublar made the public aware of that island, but the San Diego incident and Hammon's televised speech about Sorna made the public aware of the second island as well.
10:33-11:05 It really is a shame they didn't include any explanations in the movie for the illegal changes on Sorna in the 4 years since the previous movie, that we had to get clues from a backdoor site for the Masrani Global site made for the Jurassic World films. Genetic science is the blood of the franchise, and they left out those parts that would have made it feel more like a JP movie instead of an average quasi-horror adventure movie. You're absolutely right in your theory that InGen were secretly working to advance their splicing methods (into hybrid territory), making this movie important as secret setup towards Jurassic World.
15:01 Good news, there's at least 2 Ceratosaurs in Camp Cretaceous. They may not have done much, but better than being used for this kind of low-brow humor.
The last 15 minutes could have been more exciting if they went with either or both of the ideas they had for it: 1. the Raptors attacking and killing the Spino; or 2. the freed Pteranodons attacking the helicopters. But I suppose they needed to wind down the energy so it didn't feel like it ended more abruptly than it already does. Don't get me wrong, while this movie is the "black sheep" of the franchise, it's still my favorite as well.

I believe the Quills and colours might have more to do with more modern Dinosaur appearance information they got later...
iirc had read something about how paleontologists were not pleased with the latest Jurassic Park movie because the dinosaurs did not have feathers on them which they had since discovered to be the case.

So I would say this one is better than Fallen Kingdom. What I liked about JP 3 was the bird cage scene and the Spinosaurus but he was underused. He would appear and disappear for chunks of the movie plus the other issue is that they’re on the same island from part 2 but as we see in part 3 it looks more of jungle region where as Lost World look more like a Forest region so there’s a continuity error there
