  • Spider Man 2 Review. Continuing on the road to Spider Man No Way Home going through all the live action spider man movies. I move on to Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 2004 widely regarded as the best spider man movie ever made. While for the most part I agree that this movie perfectly captures Spider-man, I do have some minor issues with the film. Cant wait to see Doc Ock back to fight Peter Parker in Spider Man No Way Home. Spider Man 2 2004 Movie Review

I believe Aunt May also found out about Peter’s secret identity. When she’s moving out she tells Peter that she threw away his “old comic books”. Peter acts shocked and immediately after that she gives him the hero speech (beautiful by the way)
I believe those old “comic books” were actually Peter’s notebooks, in were he brainstormed the Spider-Man suit design, aunt May saw them and realized the true identity of his nephew. Again *Peter acts shocked and immediately after that she gives him the hero speech* (this also happened after the fight together against Doc Oc in the bank)
She definitely knows, at least in my head that’s canon lol

I understand the frustration with spidey losing his powers but I think it’s an essential part of the story and I’d even go a step further and say it makes perfect sense in the real world because if you are suffering from any sort of depression, you won’t be at you’re best whenever you need to rise to the occasion and I think that’s what Sam raimi is trying to communicate through that.

When I saw this movie as a kid I didn’t really love that the tentacles talked to Doc Ock. But now watching it back as an adult I appreciate it a lot more. It’s not literal mind control or anything like that- the tentacles are basically just an extension of Otto’s ego and his unwillingness to let go of his dream. He’s such a well fleshed out character.

Spider-Man 2 has truly been the most historical greatest superhero movie of all time, it has delivers such a powerful story of Peter Parker, and even have the most insane action pack choreography of Spider-Man and doc ock. But I honestly felt like Mary Jane and Harry are the true villains to treat Peter so badly, which they have truly hurt him so badly. Luckily Sami raimi is able to make them shut up by having them finally know Peter is Spider-Man.

What's interesting for Spider-Man losing his powers, I saw Film Theory delve into that and he believed that Peter is dealing with PTSD which led to him trying to balance his life and losing his powers. Spider-Man did lose his powers in comics from time to time, the earliest example is from Amazing Spider-Man #12 way back in 1964. He lost his powers temporarily because of fever, If a simple fever can make him lose his powers I think it's not too farfetched for him to lose his powers because of depression. Funnily enough, he was also facing Doc Ock at the time.

What I love and grown to appreciate after reading some of the 60s Spider-Man comics is that Raimi worked in Peter's loss of powers beautifully. During #12 of Amazing Spider-Man, Peter gets sick and loses his powers right when he has to deal with Doc Ock. What's a nice touch in this movie is that not long after Otto told Peter that keeping love hidden and bottled up inside could make him "sick", he begins to lose his powers. So it's a nice, very subtle nod.

I remember being so damn hyped for this film during my elementary school days, I always played the trailer in the library so many damn times and I remember buying a calendar of Spider-Man 2. I finally went to see it in Mexico at a theater that was next to a grocery store, I remember just having a blast and I remember also being hyped for the first Fantastic Four movie (trailer was played before it started) and to be honest this is one of the best entries in any superhero film.

Honestly, now that I'm older, the entire thing about Peter losing his powers is kind of clearly modeled to come about in the same fashion as Erectile Dysfunction. Pete's not in control of it, but that is a condition that can come about with stress... So the fact they derived it from a medical condition makes sense to ground it

From a Film Theory episode, there's tons of evidence towards Peter suffering from ptsd because of the events of Spider-Man 1. Add on that his life is falling apart is a good set up for him losing his powers.

I actually really like the losing powers. Since depression in highschool I learned the hard way that your mental state can effect your physical state. So honestly yeah it was intresting and my heart def felt bad for him going through all shitty sequences.

I always thought peter losing his powers was a sign that he needed to focus on being peter parker instead of spiderman for awhile so he can find the balance of both worlds. Its after he has that brilliant conversation with the doctor and that heartbreaking dream sequence where he tells uncle ben he cant do it that i think he was able to start focusing on himself

17 years later this film is still one of my favorite superhero films, I find it more relatable the older I get as a young adult I relate to Peter's struggles with just growing and wanting more time and just going through changes for the better but knowing you can't have both of the best worlds truly the most human Spider-Man story and I love it, all the songs and bands they picked fit the tone perfectly I love it even more the older I get

I honestly would love a prelude of Spider-Man 3 where Peter tells Mary Jane of the day uncle Ben died, in a style of the ending of the first Rambo film of how Rambo addresses with his ptsd. But with a heartbreaking grief powerful performance tobey would pull off to give for his Peter to share his pain to Mary Jane and she would feel so bad for him and feel guilty of everything she has said about him being the empty seat. And then luckily with a beautiful ending with Peter crying while Mary Jane gives him a hug.

Spider-Man 2 was the film where I first discovered Spider-Man and I will NEVER forget that. This movie still hold ups today with it's story, themes, action, music score from Danny Elfman and most importantly the characters. Raimi really understood Spider-Man and it really shows in this film. Like many people said, this film in a nutshell was a wonderful character study for Peter Parker and his alter-ego Spider-Man and Alfred Molina was fantastic as Doctor Octopus and I can't WAIT to see him again in No Way Home, same with Tobey. Great video and keep up the good work.

Spider-Man 2 (2004) is such a outstanding and incredible sequel on so many levels due to it's witty and clever dialogue and humor, comedic moments, emotional resonance, action sequences, performance's by the cast, and motivational, powerful, and inspirational life messages. Tobey Maguire did a phenomenal and spectacular job portraying Peter Parker/ Spiderman as he put tons of emotion and depth into his role. It was decent. To this day the ending still gives me chills and goosebumps 😰😱 as it was just a really perfect, epic, and satisfying way to end the movie and I still watch it and I consider it a classic. It never gets old.😍😎💯👍

The only thing I didn’t like about Spider-Man 2 is Peter gave up his powers knowing full well that Doc Ock was still at large and he’s the only one who could’ve possibly stopped him.
I would have liked it if he thought he actually defeated him, then gave up his powers.
Only for doctor octopus to return, then he has to take responsibility again.

When I was a kid I obviously never questioned the plot points of the Raimi trilogy, but through adulthood I always thought him losing his powers was a lesson in that, even though you can tell yourself you’re doing what you’re supposed to do, the question could always be there if you constantly put others before you’re own needs. “Am I not supposed to have what I want, what I need?” I thought it humanized him extremely as a hero who always puts others before him. Everyone needs a break sometimes and if you don’t mentally decide to take one, in extreme cases of stress, your body can choose to take a break for you. I see it as a rare entry in the super hero genre that actually shows the mental stress being a hero would add onto your normal life. And what that mental stress can do to you physically. Ottos arch I feel slightly mimics that, in that how much he worked and fixated on his fusion project, and when he could have asked himself, “am I not supposed to have what I want” and he took the opportunity to take what he wanted, like Peter took his “losing his powers” as an opportunity to go back to normal life, cause that’s what Peter wanted. SUCH an amazing superhero story. Relatable, and it was story first, spectacle to enhance the story. The formula for super hero movies now is definitely not what it was

I agree with it being better when Peter keeps his identity secret. I hate that about the Home trilogy, and not just the part about Mysterio leaking his identity. I mean Tony, Happy, Pepper, Ned, Aunt May, etc.
It’s so much more fun when he has to keep it secret because it really feels like he’s his own guy. I think it’s just harder on the script writer when only Peter knows. But that’s where you could let him do some talking to himself like he does in the 90s cartoon.

This movie is honestly my favorite spider man movie I remember getting this on DVD and watching it nonstop it was so much fun plus the part where Peter loses is powers his something I believe was taken from the comics but also adding some new things to it also doc ock in this movie wasn't really a villain he just wanted to make a unique experiment but it has gone wrong killing both his wife and injuring him causing him to become the bad guy then at the end he sacrificed himself but as for no way home my theory is that the Sun he was about to go in instead of him getting killed he gets sucked in and teleported to an alternate timeline basically The MCU timeline where No Way Home Leads up!
