I have a lot of nostalgia for this one. That opening scene was the most traumatising out of the Jurassic Park films.
Spielberg was way too soft with the JP films..... JP books are far more violent and disturbing.

@@Ryan3d yep. I read the first jurassic park book and it was definitely more gory than the movie. Had they directly translated the book into film, the movie would have been NC-17. Spielberg could have not been too soft with the JP films, and made them a little bit more gritty for an R rating.
It has some great scenes but most of this movie is just eh and it’s cheesy

I know a lot of people HATE this entry but to be honest… I love the ever loving shit out of this one when I was a kid, there’s a lot of tense moments like the glass of the RV about to crack (that stressed me out as a kid) and seeing a T-Rex loose in San Diego was so badass. I first I thought I would never get to see that again until Fallen Kingdom did that ballsy ending and what we’re getting next in Dominion, I can’t wait to see Dominion in the following days.
Also the opening scene traumatized me so damn badly, fucking compys I tell ya. 😖

@@miketrapper0464 It has its moments but I definitely agree that it’s the weakest in the franchise, that probably explains why it got delayed from its original release date which was in 2006 but didn’t come out in 2007.

If I remember correctly, especially from a scene that was planned to be included but got scrapped was, yes, Velociraptors attacked the ship crew and because of the panic, they started the boat and the raptors yeeted once it started moving, or something like that but I don't exactly remember if that's how it was supposed to go down
yep that was the plan, the ship was supposed to be carrying raptors to the mainland as well. but spielberg either ran out of time or money and wasn't able to film the scene.
Fun fact, the opening scene with those Compys and the little girl was actually in the first book

I actually love the transition to Malcolm. The idea is that it's meant to appear that he's there on the island watching, as if while the woman is screaming in horror, he's just standing there yawning like, "Yeah, told y'all this would happen."

This movie is weirdly divisive with some loving it and some hating it. I honestly love this especially since the dinosaurs feel like animals who attack with reason & purpose. Even the first JP had moments of the dinos acting like irrational monsters.

I remember the Lost World being my favorite as a kid.
This one is underrated in my opinion. It's my second favourite in the series and has my favourite main character in the series : Mr. Ian Malcolm. But it has one of most out their scenes in the series: the gymnastics raptors scene. Just wow.
Saw this film in theaters, I hated it at first because my favorite Paleontologist Alan Grant wasn't it in, as Sam Niell was too busy working on the 1997 Sci Fi Horror Thriller Event Horizon.
The original opening scene, which was scripted but never filmed, was going to involve Japanese fisherman haul in a net that contains the carcass of a dead Parasaurolophus. The fisherman become frightened by the sight of the beast, they cut the net loose where it falls into the water and disappears.
but the Parasaurolophus corpse still does make an appearance in the Rex nest when Tembo sees the baby rex for the first time .
I watched this movie for the first time this year and I hated it, it’s so bad
One thing I always had a problem with in this and especially the next one was the explanation for them going back to the island. I just never bought that Ian would ever go back to or survive the island alone, even with discount versions of Ellie and Alan. If you ask me I think Roland and his hunt for the T-Rex would’ve been a pretty solid premise for this movie. He was probably the most underrated character in the film. Him and his team hunting Dino’s could’ve totally been the focus of the movie and still allow for plenty of Dino carnage.
That would be a great premise! Crazy rich dude just wants to hunt the ultimate animal with a team
Roland is the most interesting character in JP franchise. I think that's because he's not some 2D character. His motivation is to hunt T-rex, but he's not a bad guy. He's just hunter doing his job. He's helping the protagonist and even planned out their mutual survival in the camp scene. After he got his T-rex, he's done. He doesn't return to San Diego and try to held back the protagonist, he's just go to his home and being done with his job like any other normal people.
He never intended to go back, he only went because Hammond sent his GIRLFRIEND down there, no other reason
I know this movie gets a lot of flack from JP fans and it does definitely have some problems. But, The Lost World is by far my favorite of the JP sequels. They did a great job further fleshing out Ian Malcom’s character and the musical score is arguably almost as memorable as the music in the first film.

Dude I’m so glad that they did the part where the girl nearly got bitten to death by the compsagnothids cause it was one of the coolest and most interesting scenes in the original books
You know again Chris, the original script depicts a very different version of trio, where they all go at the same time, instead of Sarah going first and a delete character, beside there is all of delete scenes that would have made this much better explain the characters we see, but I don't care, because it's awesome.
P.S the t-rex that rampage through San Diego is the father of the baby t-rex, so daddy mayhem through the city
Classic line "There's a dinosaur in our backyard." Parents proceed to argue about a nightlight. The Lost World seemed disjointed when I first watched it but as I have watched it more it has a few epic Jurassic Park moments. Reminds me of Fallen Kingdom I felt the same way. Like it was two different movies in one.

this will ALWAYS be my favorite Jurassic Park. besides the gymnastic scene before the San Diego rampage scene, the movie is full of some of the most memorable scenes in the series. from the two t Rex ripping dude apart or seeing them approach the rv through the trees, the anxiety inducing rv scene, the tall grass and dinosaur wrangling scenes, and the afermentioned San Diego rampage scenes are all standouts. I also really loved seeing Pete Postelwaith in it as basically the Maldoon ripoff character ass well. idk even if Steven Spielberg cites this as his least favorite film he did, I disagree and will always cite this as my one of the first movies I ever fell in love with

Agreed, I read both books multiple times, the Lost World book was nothing like the movie and was far far better and went way closer to the original book.
Personally this is my favorite one but i get why you would think this is a step down but i would watch this nonstop
So I definitely like this one because this one and the first Jurassic Park I rewatched dozens of times. I liked how the Ingen team was just massacred by the raptors after just barely escaping the T Rex, also I grew up in San Diego so seeing a T Rex attacking the city I lived in was always worth re watching it

Yea Chris, that's exactly what happened, a few raptors got onboard and ate the crew and then left before the ship left, it's a scene that got filmed but didn't make the cut
Great review! Though I’d argue that Gennaro’s biggest offense in JP was abandoning the kids once he realized the T-Rex was loose.

Spielberg intentionally doesn't show the main titular characters at first and the aftermath of the dinosaur and shark attacks. In fact, he's said the unknown is far more scary than showing it. He builds up the tension and finally shows the character whether it be ET, the shark or the dinosaurs.

It's simply doesn't make sense that the vessel that carried the T-Rexes (which the entire crew were already killed by....something) managed to travel all the way from Sorna, Costa Rica to San Diego. I mean, if the crew were already dead, who the hell was steering the ship midway in the middle of the ocean all the way to San Diego port??! 🧐
There is a ton of theorys abt it but one was about a storyboard of a worker looking at a velociraptor on what looks like the inside of the ship
@@spoopystories6772 Theory will keep being a theory since the movie itself provided zero answer to such big question resulting in a giant glaring plot hole. As it stands, the vessel magically arriving precisely in San Diego port with a dead crew instead of being stranded somewhere is the stupidest thing that the franchise have ever committed until Fallen Kingdom happened.
Especially after the JW films I've really grown to appreciate this movie. Yeah there are some dumb choices here n there but it still captures the spirit of what you want in a JP film. The tall grass sequence still might be my favorite of the entire franchise.
This was my favorite growing up. Over time I learned how much of a masterpiece the first one really is, so I have to give it the top spot, but I still love the hell out of this movie
I have fond memories of this movie as i remember watching it on school holiday camp with my classmates at the movies. The opening scene scared me and really set the tone for the movie. Loved every minute of it
Recently, I've seen a lot of movies that have Julianne Moore in its cast. She's a great actress.
I know Chris hates these type of comments but I gotta give you guys some FYI. The San Diego park was actually supposed to be the original version of Jurassic Park. Then Hammond realized this park would be too small to house the dinosaurs properly so he went with the island park so dinosaurs could have open space to be more comfortable. The San Diego park was even built 10 years before the Isla Nublar park.
my favorite JP movie right here. the sense of adventure is great with the hunters and the scene in the open field with the cool vehicles.

Fun Fact: Isla Sorna, also known as Site B, is one of the island to make a lot of dinosaurs than the other sites in the other islands. But if you see in both JP 2: lost world and JP 3, the islands are mostly abandoned since it looks like something was wrong there which lead the dinosaurs to escape.
I remember renting this movie and was not excited that the original two actors didn’t return and the kids wasn’t involved in the adventure but overall I like it now much better than when I was a kid

Oof when Sarah was on the breaking glass slowly cracking it while being over a cliff my anxiety always goes up as someone’s freaked out about heights. The other scene with the T-Rex in the tent naw I would’ve died I would’ve been shitting my pants if that happened to me.
Wanna add a little fun fact, on the scene in the city where everyone is running away from the T Rex and it shows the asian men running away. Well what makes it even more funnier is that they are saying "We came to America to get away from this shit" in Japanese lol
What made the lil greens scary was that they were waiting for they're venom to take effect. At the end he was just fucked blind and slowing falling sleep

To answer your question about the ship's crew members being eaten, this is one of many examples of how The Lost World's production was plagued with tons of reshoots, rewrites, and cuts. To be 100% there is no definitive answer but everyone has their theories, with some that can be backed up by evidence.
Now it was shown through visual storytelling that the Buck did go on a rampage on the ship and was seal backed into the cargo hold with one man's last action. But the severed hand suggests something else.
There is a bit of concept art out there that shows a velociraptor stalking a human in a flooded hallway that looks very industrial, very unlike anything on the island. This has led to a theory that one or more velociraptors stowed away on the Venture and attacked the crew which led to the breakout of the Rex at the same time. The raptors jumped overboard while the Rex went back into the cargo hold only to be locked in.
That's the one that I personally stick with. There are other theories like Nick Van Owen (Vince Vaughn) sabotaged the ship and released the T-Rex, since he's kind of a nut when it comes to his methods, even going as far as to have killed any surviving members on the bridge, cutting off a man's hand in the process.
So I've watched this movie soooooo many times and I keep forgetting the characters names ( except for Ian). But I still love this movie

I LOVED JP2 The Lost World when it came out. I was 9 years old and just super excited. I can see the flaws now but still holds a nice sweet place in my heart. I know you don’t want to hear it Chris but the book is very different so if you’re looking for another awesome JP story I’d read that, it’s got some great moments that they completely ignore in the movie.
1:47 You said you didn't want to hear anything about the books in the last video, but here's some trivia that got transferred from the books to the movie continuity (confirmed in the Netflix cartoon): the Jurassic Park Compsognathus ("compies") actually have toxic bites, so not only would it hurt from being bitten from multiple sets of little teeth, but also their venom as it entered your body. It also explains the taser guy's death, how he kept getting weaker with each attack from the swarm until he couldn't fight them off at all.
9:17 It was more than a cut on its leg; its leg was broken. In a deleted scene, we were going to see Ludlow stumble in his drunkenness and fall onto the baby. That's why it was crying so loudly.
14:26-14:54 There's a deleted scene that would have explained it. I don't remember all the implied details, but yes the dad Rex woke up and escaped its original cage, rampaged the whole crew, and whoever was holding the cargo door control must have been last, using their last strength to trap the Rex down there. It's really unfortunate how many deleted scenes the movie needed for its storytelling, but they cut anyway because the movie would have been too long with them.
Correction the Tyrannosaurus that was on San Diego was the male trex revered as the Buck Trex because Roland came for the male trex and got what he wanted, but at a expensive price tag. (Also, Sarah said it in verbal dialogue).
I love The Lost World. It bothers me how underrated it is. I saw this in the theater in 1997. I can't explain how much I adore the high hide scene. Ian tells Kelly We're in a completely different situation and you hear the T Rex roaring in the distance in the rainy jungle at night. That's the kind of suspense and terror I love. Eddie Carr's death is one of the best and the Rexes attacking the camp was great. People don't like the San Diego scene for whatever reason but it's amazing to me.
This was my favorite movie to watch ass a kid, especially the two trex scene it was great…then when JP3 came out that one became my favorite because the spino…but anyway Lost world is my favorite sequel till this day, the San Diego part of the film is one of the best moments in the franchise

No one knows who ate the crew on the ship. Theorys say it was raptors or compys but it is never stated what killed those people anywhere in the Jurassic universe that's canon to my knowledge.
It was raptors I remember seeing a TH-cam video talking about plot holes in movies and they mentioned JP The Lost World. It said that the raptors attack the crew of the ship while it was trying to depart but for some reason they never filmed the scene

Dunno if its been pointed out, but the cage the trex was lifted out in is actually on the deck of the ship and busted from the inside. So the rex did manage to break out, the real question is how did they get it in the cargo hold
Its not explained and it is a bit "blink and you'll miss it" but it is there

The T-rex that went rampaging in the 3rd act is the male, aka "The Buck". Supposedly a scene where raptors infiltrate and attack the crew members of ship was to be shot, but they cancelled it.
As a San Diegan I'm obligated to like this movie. In all seriousness though I might hold this movie in higher regards then it deserves, but I remember my step-dad recounting the story to me and then seeing it for the first time on VHS

Hey 3C Films, the movie is called The Lost World after The Lost World movie in 1960. As for the boat seen Raptors were originally scripted to kill the crew but concept art shown by youtuber Klayton Fioriti shows the trex escaped and managed to kill everyone and somehow got locked up in the cargo hold by a dying crew member.
I could be wrong but I actually remember hearing about a part of the script that didn’t get filmed that was supposed to show your exact idea of raptors going on the boat killing the whole crew then jumping off last minute but that’s just hearsay
