- Feeling unsafe in your own house is not something any of us wants. If you don't have a good surveillance system, some foil over the front door handle can help you out. If someone tries to sneak into your house while you're sleeping, you'll notice the foil getting slightly ripped the next morning. A mug on the doorknob can be just as efficient! Find out about more simple and cheap but effective ways to protect your property and your data!

When I became a widow I decided to get Simplisafe for my security system. Only $30 per month, my home is secure both day and night 24/7. And, if I have a medical emergency I placed panic buttons throughout the house just in case I am to sick or hurt to get to my cellphone. I also installed camera's outside and inside of my home. Camera's are a great deterrent to keep the burglars away. One last thing I installed was a driveway alarm. It will alert me when someone is coming up my long driveway. I can see on the camera facing the driveway who is coming to visit.

Beat scam ever was when a home security service came by to sell me a security system and asked if they could come in and see my back door to see if it’s vulnerable to break ins. Just as I let them in I knew I made a mistake. I told my cousin who was with me that in three days someone would try to break in and sure enough! My neighbors on each side were harassed at 3 am and saw them come by my house and tried to break in. Three days later. The security people WERE the threat.
Exactly, home security systems are unfortunately, often times, the weakest link.
If anyone comes by to sell you something, and you invite them in, you deserve to be...... Nevermind you know.
I got into a huge fight with a group of roommates in my first apartment. We weren't in a great town and maintenance had to come clear dryer vents. I said we should hide the electronics (we're all gamers and have nice electronics) and I did hide all my stuff which was most of what we had (the TV and Xbox were mine and I locked them in my room) yeah.... next place they lived they each got robbed shortly after a work order...

Get a professionally installed alarm system with central monitoring. The security system should have battery backup in case of power failure. The security system should have communications via the mobile phone network and not by wires which can be cut. Have cameras installed, and the video recordings are stored remotely. Also do the procedures to make your home difficult to break in to. In your home have timers for some of the lighting that will turn the lights on and off at times to make it look like someone is turning the lights on and off. @@michaelt3308 genuine question, what does this have to do with either party? it’s a bright side video about unrealistic burglaries.
there are some other things you could also do if you’re home alone. You could put nail strips by the window so that way when the bandits try to enter through a window they’ll step on it.
if you feel like the bandits will go through the front door you could rig a pulley system to the handle and attach a paint can to the ceiling, when the handle turns bandits walk in and get whacked in the head with a paint can.
last one really works just takes a while. You could set up some mannequins or cardboard cut outs of celebrities near your windows and turn on music, it looks like you’re having a party with lots of guests. Simply attach kite string to portions of the cardboard cut outs to make it look like they’re moving. Any would be robbers would reconsider knowing that there’s a house for a party goers.

One thing people often don't think of as a security measure is a reputable pet sitting service. (If you have pets and are on holiday of course.) They will come to your home up to twice a day and do things like collect the mail, turn lights on/off, pull curtains etc. The agency will have done police checks and character references so that shouldn't be an issue. Of course the most important thing is that they feed your pets and keep them company, but their presence every day makes the house look lived in, as it were. Or housesitters will do all the above in exchange for living there rent free. Just a thought.

Great. Now I have to buy kibbles and bits for a dog I don’t even have.
Dog food left outdoors
will attract rats and
feral animals.
Stack empty soda cans behind the door, if the door moves they topple over and make an absolute racket
Thanks for telling the burglars to search the kids’ room 😒
Exactly
My family was burgled when I was a kid, and they actually stole my little sister's piggy bank! Who does that to a little kid? It's bad enough to steal, but pennies from a child? Jerks!
