    Just started saltwater fishing and I can’t get enough of your videos. I took a Sea-Doo fish pro out of destin today. I felt like I couldn’t really fish the bottom because I’d drift away from the reef. Are you drifting?

      Awesome! Glad you find my videos helpful, that’s why I do them! I am anchored. I try to get as close as I can on top of the reef or just up current. I only drift fish inshore, or offshore if I see a bait pod. You might try a heavy vertical jig, set your drift and drop as many times as you can before, on top of and past the reef and repeat. Maybe going heavy will get that jig down better while your moving. Good luck, and thanks for watching!

      And you might try a drift sock or bucket to slow your drift.

    I always have to study the mouths to determine between small AJs and banded rudder fish.

      I don’t seem to get banded rudderfish too often. Unless I was moving too fast and thought it was an AJ! 😀 thanks for watching!

    It looks like you had a great day. You must be exhausted those amberjack even though they are on the small side they can really give you a beat down. I tangled with a 50 pounder once and I do not want to do that again lol thank you for the video.

    What’s the point of having your motors trimmed all the way up ?

    • @forgottencoastfishing
      @forgottencoastfishing  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nothing really. Since I have to use an anchor when I get to the reef, once I get to it and on top of it I turn the engines off and trim up the motors so I can see which way the boat will drift. I’ve found that trimming the motors up gives a more accurate drift. Then once I know which way the boat is drifting I put the motors back down and go to the opposite side of the reef from the way I drifted and drop anchor. Then turn the engines off again and raise the engines so the boat will drift the same way and then tie the anchor rope off when I get on top of the reef. And so most times I don’t bother putting the engines back down. But with them up it might keep break offs from happening if they take me towards the back of the boat. So no purpose really, just up from when I am setting the anchor. Thanks for watching!!

      @@forgottencoastfishing how much chain and anchor does your boat have? Because you anchor up in some deep water.
