Would you please comment/elaborate on the following that I read on " Northwest Maritime Academy's website " Thank You! - " sea time " - if an OS completes 360 days of sea time, he/she qualifies for an upgrade to Able Seaman and about two and half times more pay - accumulated sea time never expires, can be used repeatedly and allows to work toward promotion - each position requires passing tests. Since these tests are very difficult, most people opt to take a class in lieu of testing. So, it's better to just go to the class and be guaranteed to pass than to test at the USCG, which can be " brutal " according to them. - as an entry level mariner, when can you expect to start making over-time pay? I appreciate your effort in explaining the above and Thank You again!

This Wanderring Mariner youtube feature of Maritime Careers Entry Level Roles & Hidden Benefits is highly informative and honest in a helpful way. I also do enjoy the added feature of the youtube author making clear analogies on the monetary and professional benefits on top of making it clear that a prospective employee must go into a military sealift command being aware and thinking of a five year investing plan. The honest persuasive implication to strive to go into it only if you are willing to try towards five years is also useful/valuable information delivered in an professional and friendly manner. I am also married and it is great to hear of the youtube author's honest admission that he is also married which helps me understand that being married and having a military sealift command career is more than possible.

I can't thank you enough for all the information you are putting out on this channel as information surrounding the Merchant Marine world is hard to come by at times. Question: I was in the Navy for 6 years as an Electricians Mate then got out of the Navy to pursue a different career. That career did not work out and I have been working at USPS as a mailman for the past 4 years. Being a mail carrier is fine, pretty easy/no stress job, but it does not challenge me at all and it leaves me wishing I had stayed in the military. I have been considering joining MSC or SIU, I currently have almost 10 years of federal service so it would be crazy for me not to go the MSC route and hit my 20+ years over joining a company on the non federal side right? Thanks again for putting out your videos and helping all of us considering joining the field.

For sailing strictly within U.S. territorial waters, a passport is recommended but not strictly required. However, many employers and specific assignments may still require it as part of their hiring criteria, even for domestic routes. It's always a good idea to have a passport to ensure you meet all potential requirements and avoid any limitations in your employment opportunities.

I've got some funny stories. Now some wear coveralls. Usually dickies blues type. Uniforms in the Zero or Chief Mess maybe for SU's and Cooks. People usually wore the ship's Tee voluntarily. They are kind of neat anyway and available in the Ship Store. Jeans and Button up shirts are also common in conservative colors. Now the funny stories... People that design their own uniforms. We had an RET that wore Dickies Coveralls BUT... he had a name tag over pocket, flag on the shoulder, name of ship on other pocket, rank on collar (chief). We called him Astronaut. It looked very NASA. RET Chief that designed a Dress Uniform that sent pics to his relatives of him in it. Very Navy Chief looking. Singapore Sembawang. There is a small store that makes custom coveralls. The Bridge Staff and Captain all got matching "ENTERPRISE" looking coveralls as their uniform. Que up "Faith of the Heart". Then there was Career Dumbass Arnie Smith SCO. He wanted everyone under him to wear the old dungaree US NAVY uniform and he wore Khakis. He was extending his military career way beyond retirement. Khakis are common with Officers just to set them apart from the crew especially Bridge Officers. The Dungarees were damned stupid and we were the only Dept required to wear them which made the Dept look like a group of Retards or escapees from a Mental Hospital. This was way beyond the Navy replacing those stupid uniforms. Captain Bellfi and the Ninja Security Team. This Capt was very into security and security training. He had his own Tactical SWAT Team that he trained. They had to be CRACK SHOTS. They had FULL SWAT TEAM Gear. Helmet to Boots Black with Balaclavas. Yeah.... Right.

When I was in the Marines in the 90s we didn't have that and when we came home and showed pictures of where we went and what we did everyone was jealous of us. Now my son is in the Marines and he is always on his phone and video games talking to friends getting home sick. What I found out was that most of the social media posts are junk anyway. So they had a nice time on the 4th. That's great, but if you are traveling and making good money and are able to take time off to enjoy life then I think that is a hell of a lot better than some 9-5 or a factory job where you live for the weekend and hate your life monday through friday.

Modern american women are basically men. I will never date another american woman. I'm done. Have been for years now. The risk vastly outweighs the potential reward. Maybe I will find a woman with a brain inside her head abroad? Maybe not. Either way, es lo que es. I've wanted to live abroad because of the cost. There is no way I can retire here at the age I want to. IDK why the American people are selling their lifestyles and country to the crooks in washington (both sides). We need a wake up. Or not. Keep doing what you're doing, America while I disembark when I retire. If everyone does it, the cost of living will increase in these other countires. Look at the prices in Thailand after remote workers moved there in droves.
