It has helped me learn what the speed limit means, and they've helped me abide by it. I am 21 and my dream has always been to go into car safety, real world stuff is no joke for sure!

    It’s just insane that people drive like they don’t care for their own lives or the lives of others. I see it everyday. Those of us who drive 18 wheelers see it so many times a day. It’s aggravating to see some guy who is so impatient that they attempt to pass you on a two lane road in a no passing zone with oncoming traffic in the near distance, and you look down and see his wife/girlfriend or one of his kids that are at the driver’s mercy. Another example, I see some woman texting away trying to pass me with her kids crawling all over the back seat, not even buckled up, and trying to pass me while in the near distance there’s an oncoming Freightliner hauling a tanker.
    You can only get away with it for so long before your lucky eventually runs out, and then this happens.

      And if the driver of the 18-wheeler isn't killed, he/she suffers emotionally/mentally over the deaths of the people in the other vehicle. Thank you to all of the truckers that drive all of those miles to deliver most of the food, medicine, beverages, cars, etc. for the world.

      I had a friend of mine in grad school about 40 years ago. He was driving a motorbike and a older lady in a Caddie pulled out in front of him and he hit the caddie twice. Another motorist came up to where he was llying on the road with a broken leg. The car sounded like his mother's car. After getting my friend into an EMS ambulance he drove a short distance and found his mother's car parked in her driveway. There was a big crush indention on her right passenger side. She never knew she had hit my friend!

      Point of impact is the only reason the 15yo and 33yo survived. Notice in the incident details that both of them were seated in the 'right side' of their vehicle. Both the driver & passenger behind the driver died. Sad, but that's what happens on one-lane highways with a driver that makes a decision to make an unsafe pass, on a one-lane highway.

    I wonder if people know that their health insurance (if they have it) or Medicare/Medicaid, does *not* cover Life Flight transport? You'll get billed for the cost directly (or, if you die, your family is billed), and if the bill is not paid then wages are garnished, Social Security payments taken, and all your assets have liens placed on them. The minimum cost of a very short flight (2-5 miles) is well north of $10,000

    • @jenx5870
      @jenx5870 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      My husband was taken by Life Flight 2.5 hours away, due to his requirement to be at the hospital where he received his kidney transplant. We were not billed, and insurance did, indeed, pay 100% of the bill. Thankfully, because, yes it is exceptionally expensive. Back then in the early 2000s, it cost $2500 for the chopper to both lift off and land (so, x 4), plus the cost per mile. It depends on the insurance. We had private insurance through his employer, because he still worked at the time, although he was off on medical leave. If someone truly didn't have it covered, then they would work out payment plans with them, and many will do write offs for tax purposes. If absolutely necessary, people have had to declare bankruptcy to discharge medical debt. In those cases, people usually can still keep their homes and other possessions.

God bless everyone involved. All of these people need to either leave earlier or just slow down. I work about 35 minutes from my job and i leave an hour before time just so i dont have to drive fast to get there. I can take my time and get myself and someone elses family members home or to work safely

      The people that get in serious trouble passing often start out bad by being too close to the vehicle they are attempting to pass. You can't see ahead when tight behind a semi. You also can't increase your speed to overtake before actually passing. They then swing out and don't have any speed built up to get through the danger zone quickly. BAM

      Doesn't everyone? I suppose some people may have theirs off, but a lot people just keep theirs on in order to be more visible. In some countries, it is a requirement to have your headlights on during the day, for that very reason. You say that, as if that would make we Texans stupid, but it would make us better drivers. Just because you're watching a channel from Texas that follows accidents, that doesn't mean that there aren't a hell of a lot more in other states.

    All this about being in a hurry to get home impatient balh blah. The driver was not on a suicide mission. The main reason is he thought he had time and distance to pass a vehicle. I don't know if it was a no pass zone but I would think so jist because it is a straight road but I don't know in that area. Driving for 40 plus years and seen alot like most, bottom line he made a costly mistake. My thinking is how could he not see headlights from other vehicle in distance coming at him when he went over to start to pass.. but these are mental mistakes without a reset or do over button..

    So many driver mis-calculate how much space they have between them passing and an oncoming car. The speed is multiplied by two since they are heading toward each other. This means that you have 1/2 the normal time that you would otherwise be approaching a fixed object on the side of the road. At 70 mph each (a combined 140 mph), that space is closing faster than a 747’s landing speed (120 mph). Don’t pass unless you have what looks like a mile of open space in front of you. Otherwise, you’re playing Russian roulette.
