    Young rookie firefighter getting real time hands on training. Occupant is 1144, no need to rush to peel the can open. Take your time, do it right and learn from the experience. Would have been much faster to pop the lid with the cutters, but she wasn’t going anywhere. By the looks of the steering wheel, they had to pry her off of it. Nice little impale job! I sure miss going to the grinders, hell of a lot better then doing medical aides all day.

    I rode with my father to wrecks and fire calls I was told to stay in the wrecker or car so why are these two boys so close to the car? Do they need to see a dead person in the car?

      The fact that it was 20 yrs ago probably has the most to do with it. You have Jr fire fighters and just think of how nowadays there's constantly new rules and regulations being put into place for everyone's safety, a lot that wouldn't have been thought of or enforced back then. I remember being little and responding to accidents with my dad and brother and we could've walked right up and touched the people if we would've wanted to. Which brings up your last point, I'm sure the boys wanted to be in there and see what all happened. Unfortunately, there always has been and always will be, the ones that show up on scene hoping to see something morbid.

      You can't dummy-proof everything in society. Most non-idiots know to slow down in turns. I've been driving for 40 years and, miraculously enough, I've never slammed into a large concrete post at the end of a turn. Go figure.

    It's amazing to me that there isn't a guard rail or one of those sand barricades in that spot. Yes, it's "off the road" but unless I'm wrong, and I am not from Houston and don't know the area, it appears that the speed limit it probably fairly high there. It's sad that someone lost their life. For those of you feeling all sorry and saying that the concrete post needed protection...
    This driver was unconscious and "bounced" the car back and forth into the guardrails before hitting the post. It also appears no seatbelt was worn, but hey, it's all society's fault, right? If they had run over someone while driving impaired would you finally place some blame on the driver?

      @@gabesmath105 It would be like hitting a brick wall at whatever their speed was, probably 55/65 mph. The trauma on your entire body is unbelievable. It could’ve been a broken neck, massive internal injuries or something like a heart attack, stroke, etc as they did report witnesses said the driver appeared unconscious prior to impact. You can die from a fender bender. That concrete post did not give at all so it was like running into a brick wall. Everything improves constantly so keep in mind. This happened 20 years ago. Cars, safety measures have gotten better during that time. Hitting a brick wall at 60 mph is still difficult to survive even with all the improvements. There’s a reason so many people die in car accidents. Look what it did to the metal? Now, consider skin, tissue and organs. We aren’t indestructible though we may think we are. Few people survive head on collisions at 55/65 mph. A seatbelt helps but it holds you in the car but does not bend a brick pillar. We need to slow down.

    • @misplacedsouthern1236
      @misplacedsouthern1236 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@VladimirBlarp Seatbelts hold you in the car. The driver remained in the car not on the hood, engine or brick pillar. I’d guess they had their seatbelt on. I think instinctively we ing to the steering wheel. It may also break away as a safety feature in that model back then. I’m only suggesting as I don’t know.

    • @gabesmath105
      @gabesmath105 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@misplacedsouthern1236 it couldn't have been over 40-45ish cuz the cab is unaffected, and that's the most you can get with 90's vehicles.
      a wall, pillar or pole is way different than a head on because of equal absorbancy and spinning eachother around (for an offset, not so much with full frontal that sends you straight back)
      and 55 is easily survived as long as you're in something with highway worthy bones, like german brands or volvos, cuz they actually give a damn about highways, unlike every other brand that only wants to pass tests, at the lazy insurance institute for "highway safety" that shouldn't be allowed to have that name unless those idiots actually start making the name have some worth.

      @BDiane4145 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree with some of these comments. That area appears to be an on-ramp to that interstate, or a merge from another interstate. In that case, you could see early on the bottlenecking, so it seems they could've had wrecked vehicles out in a field in a much safer area for training. I'm not saying that those in training shouldn't be at a wreck scene and see the unfortunate loss of life that they will be faced with.
