VN24 - How to recover a truck with tow truck and crane

VN24 - 27-04-2023 (D/M/Y) - Ascheberg - A1 / Germany - At night around 03:15, a Semitrailer, fully loaded with water bottles, was heading southbound on the A1 freeway when, for unknown reasons, it first left the roadway to the right, then went into the ditch and overturned. In order to keep the heavy rush-hour traffic flowing, it was decided, after securing the leaking fuel, to leave the accident wreck the whole day. In the evening, at around 6 p.m., the salvage operations began. First, 20 tons of beverage bottles had to be unloaded by hand. These were placed in several containers. A single tow truck managed to get the truck back on its wheels using the winches via pulleys. A mobile crane provided a soft touchdown for the truck. The recovery work lasted into the night of the following day. During this time, traffic was able to pass the accident site on one lane. A full closure was not necessary. Nothing was released about the cause of the accident or injuries to the driver.

Considering a lot of the job had to be done in the dark due to being unable to close the road think they did well .Parts of the recovery did seem rather strange with vehicles being in the way . All in all not an easy job. Nice filming VN 24,thank you .

When you only have one lane and the hard shoulder as a workplace, it is actually normal for vehicles to get in each other's way sometimes. I think they did an excellent job.

That strikes me as being a bit odd, that nothing was said regarding the cause of the accident or injuries to the driver.

A fascinating insight into the recovery protocol in Germany. Can't see our Highways Agency allowing such working right next to a live traffic lane without any physical protection! They take ages to do a clean up and accident investigation after the event. Great video thank you.

1. : Hoffentlich sind alle Beteiligten gut aus der Sache rausgekommen!
2. : da wird wohl alles hinüber sein, Zugmaschine wie Auflieger
3. : Da sieht man mal das die schöne Leichtbauweise vom Auflieger NICHTS mehr aushält! Einmal schief angeschaut und schon ist alles gebrochen, gerissen und verbogen... Ich persönlich wäre ohne den Kranausleger als Stütze nicht in den Auflieger gegangen.

Und wenn er noch 10m weiter weg stehen würde dann juckt diesen Kran das auch nicht.
