I would do a shallow well right by the creek with a low flow high head pump up to the cabin also. Put a 100 gallon cistern inside with a float switch.

Don't bury or throw away the metal bunk bed, you have a million uses for that. You can build a garden around it or use it for a outside cage. Use your resources you were provided in the old cabin. All the old wood cabnets can be broken down to make new things. Just a suggestion

If the bunk bed is in good condition then you can donate it to a second hand store or see if Habitat Humanity can use it….
I agree bunk bed can be used for a trellis for tomato's, beans, peas, cucumbers etc., wood cabinet can be used to make a fire wood box or if you make a shed through time it could be a shelf to hold your tools. There might be a lot of items you can create something else with that could be useful . You are doing an awesome job that you will be proud of:)
The deer n animals are going to eat most or all the apples. People buy apples to feed them so they can bring them in to hunt. Weed eat the road in about good 30 feet wide so you get a better look at what you have to work with and to make it safer. When cutting the road in cut it low you can see what going on better. You may find out going one way or another a better way to come in.
And cleaning the way in will help people know you are living there. You see who's coming also
Hope you didn't burn those shelves and the big white table and the little brown table. Those could be sanded down and refinished. The same with the cabinets. The chairs come in handy to use on the porch and to set potted plants on. I wouldn't want to hump all new furniture up there without a vehicle ohmy.
I saw that bed frame and thought good for climbing beans and vegetables, swing set frames are also good
Tyler, I am a professional exterminator. Just clearing out the overgrown brush and cleaning the exterior out will be of great benefit to your ant and insect issues! Most insects are attracted by moisture. There is a chemical called permethrin, which you can buy in a concentrated form, (at least in the US) you can dillute it into a spray and put it in a spray bottle. You can actually spray it on your clothes and keeps ticks and things off. The permethrin is also used in some animal flea and tick preparations. Good luck!

On top of that you can try advion ant In the house it’s one of the best ant killers that you can buy without a license.
Consider calling the game and fish or forestry guides in your area. They may be able to help get the word out that this is now a private, occupied property. They also may have a clue who might be trespassing. On another note, Sheetrock is bad about holding moisture and mold, and you’re in a very moisture rich area. One person wisely said to wrap the house. If you’re able, getting the outside protected so your inside work lasts is important. Hydraulic jacks are surprisingly affordable and would easily pick up a corner while you replaced the pier.
I love your videos. I, too, moved away as a young person. Family is not always tied to blood. You currently have Dobby. Only let those inside your new circle as they prove themselves worthy. You are worth it.
I agree with hydraulic jacks to be used in this case. I was thinking the same thing as soon as I saw how bad some of his support is. A temporary support and build up while he removed the old stuff. I even thought about all the rocks down by the creek as a great thing to be used to build up the piers with some concrete. But that will not work right now cause of weather.
Right on! I think the first couple things I would be getting is some trail cameras for whoever is running around on your property, and to know what wildlife you have. The road would be number one in getting cleared of branches and sharp rocks to get a rig in there, maybe a gate to keep others out. Also possibly a cheap riding mower or Garden Tractor, FB marketplace or Craigslist finds, usually need work but can haul a small trailer, and mow all the grass brush. 25 years ago I purchased a 131 acre property in NWOntario that had an abandoned house on it. Squirrels had moved into the attic. I paid $29 grand for it. Gutted the inside, put in posts and beams to support the upper floor. Took out the electricity and put a hand pump on the well. I'm 70 now. Live in a senior's village in a small village. I was never happier than when I was living in that little house. It's a lot of work Tyler, but SOOOOO worth it. You can do this!! An ATV with a trailer might be useful for bringing in building materials and the like. Maybe a couple of llamas to clear the bush and help carry stuff in, LOL. If I could do it as a 45 year old woman, you can ROCK this! BTW, those apples trees might also attract black bears.

THE APPLE TREES ARE GOOD FOR MAKING HOMEMADE CIDER IN THE FUTURE,ALSO THE WOOD STOVE IS A MUST HAVE JUST MAKE SURE THE SMOKE PIPE IS CLEAND OUT OF ANY SOOT OR DEBRIS INSIDE THE PIPE,YOU SHOULD START GATHERING WOOD AS YOUR CLEANING THE AREA AROUND THE CABIN.ITS LOOKING GREAT BUT WINTER COMES FAST SO KEEP THAT IN MIND.

I admire your courage man, but you're going to need some help getting that cabin up to speed. I live in NB and this area gets a lot of snow in winter... I would really concentrate on getting the stove up and running.

Hey Tyler and Dobby. Coming to you from New Brunswick Canada 🇨🇦. Just found your channel. Beautiful piece of property you have. I did something similar 4 years ago, here in NB. If you dont mind, I would like to make a suggestion for your next purchase. A 4x4 tractor with bucket. No less then 40 hp and pto with no less then 35hp. The amount of implements that can be purchased will blow your mind and save you so much time and effort. Four years ago, I never operated a tractor, chainsaw, or sawmill. There was no road on my property now. I have a 1 km road. Done with my tractor. All wooded area. I now have a camp, made with the trees from my property, cut on my sawmill. I'm 56 years young. So if i can do it, you and Dobby can definitely do it. I wish you and Doddy all the best and look forward to watching your progress 👍

Hey, I feel for you, man! It’s just me and my dog stretch versus the world! I seen the sign you wrote out on the whiteboard, and I felt that way myself! As far as your cribbing under your house, that’s failing, you can jack that up very easily with a cheap jack. She tell you the truth a 2000 pound car jack may even do that corner. But you might invest in a bottle jack from Harbor freight rated at five or 10,000 pound and it should handle anything you do there no matter what you add to your structure, just make sure you have it level. I'm 51, and have multiple physical disabilities. I am thinking of doing this very thing. I can still do most things, I would need to, it just takes me longer, or may have to resort to abnormal ways of doing stuff. Like the way I tend my garden. I have a chair that I use to get up and down. I lay down on my side to do weeding and harvesting. Where there is a will, there is a way.
Wow, what I wouldn't give to have this experience. You're literally living my dream. And like most have already commented, you need an ATV with a trailer of some kind. Solar Batteries alone weigh SO much. Good luck and we're all rooting for you!
Nice work dude! Getting brush, weeds, grass, and trees cleared from around your cabin makes the whole thing more livable. Do not be afraid to clear trees from places where they create more work, shade, or roofing hassles than you want. You own a 45 acre forest. The contrast between open spaces and forested spaces are what make land beautiful.
Cool project, I would put all resources into access, a simple road improvement plan, rent a large skid steer, buy some plastic culvert pipe and use the existing dirt along the trail to build a simple road, it would really no be too hard, then improve as needed, also a cheap 40hp tractor with a loader bucket, That would be a great asset.

Wood ash wards off ants and its great for laying where you plan to make a path, it will work as a weed supressant. Its grt for grit in winter too.
What a great find your cabin is! Don't be afraid to leave the brush where it lies, will act as mulch and slow down growth, one of the permaculture principles if you feel like going that route. Have a good one
cleaning up the yard area really made it feel so open... having fruit growing is huge step forward for full time living.. at some point you will need to learn how to preserve fruit for winter use..but main focus is get ready for winter its coming soon.... consider a gorilla cart for hauling things in and out of the property...

I'm thinking of a small tractor with a front bucket to haul supplies back and forth from the road, and to make improvements to the access trail. A brush hog mower behind the tractor would be a plus!!

Just discovered the channel and watched the back videos. The project at the cabin is almost overwhelmingly large but I like the way you have methodically tidied up and decluttered both the cabin and the land around it. The dump centre was a good idea and I suppose that, over time, you'll be able to cover that up with branches, grass and so on from the land and really help everything to decompose where possible but to cover it up with organic material that you may just be able to tolerate so near to you. The apple trees are a brilliant resource and don't be frightened to prune hard to give you a manageable crop each year. Be ruthless with the lopping of branches and you'll reap the rewards in due course. With that number of apples you'll be producing more fruit than you can consume or process into jams, jellies, chutneys and even cider! All the very best in your endeavours and I can see how hard working you are already! What would be a great boon to you is obviously an ATV or 4wd truck for getting stuff in an out. Blessings.

I agree with everything that jimcrooks800 said... I would only add that I don't know what your road really looks like, but you need to make it passable. A 4WD pickup would go a long way to helping you out in the long run, but you will have to make it accusable in the long run. Perhaps in the Spring....

hi man i know im a little late to the party but if u get a 15-20 ton bottle jack and some dunag (wood blocking) u fix that foundation no worries, just find a good spot to block and jack, then rearrange/replace foundation blocks. good luck
Just found this channel…so awesome of a property and I will enjoy following your journey. I have a similar setup but our land didn’t have a cabin until I built it myself. Accessibility was just like yours and I had to fix the road enough to get through with an ATV and even had to build some trails. I used a small trailer behind the ATV to carry all the supplies in.
Yes, that's what Raspberry Rock does. For over three years his landlocked place he has had to use a ATV and haul everything in and out to build his cabin and live with nature. Totally off grid with solar and water catchment.
Just discovered you tonight. Looks like you're in for one hell of an adventure. I think you're doing a lot of things right from the get go. I'm not sure where exactly you are in Cape Bretton and having only been there once about 10 years ago, I'm not even going to pretend I know what resources are available to you, but you've mentioned going into "town" several times. Regardless of how big "town" is, try to get a contractor account with your hardware/lumber yard. It often comes with a discount on supplies and materials. Even 10% helps. And be cautious with the Kijiji/Facebook Market place purchases. It may sound like a great idea to buy used equipment but sometimes that return and warranty policy is worth every penny, especially if you're going to be leaning heavy on the tools. Good luck! I've been in a bit of a slump, working on converting an old Airstream into temporary living accommodations for when we move, and watching your videos is helping to get me excited about things again.
New sub here. Love your channel; you have a beautiful place. Looks like back East somewhere. I take it by your accent and the use of the word ''aye'' that you may be Canadian....... Perhaps South Eastern Canada? Right now, ruffed grouse with some baked apple on the side and some goldenrod tea sounds pretty good. A good 'last supper' for those ants would be a mixture of peanut butter, brown sugar, and some 20 mule team borax. In the spring in your area, (( if I guessed correctly )) you should be able to find some ramps, nettles, and Ostrich ferns. They are all edible. Have fun working the new place and I'll keep watching.
Hi, what a beautiful property. If I were you, I would not be so quick to throw out everything. When you are on a new property and are starting out, you would be surprised at how much stuff you can reuse for outside projects. Scrap wood and things like the old bed frame work great for framing a out building and for gardening projects that you can always replace and throw out later especially when you are so far away from everything and how expensive things are. If I lived closer to you I would offer to give you a helping hand if you needed it. But unfortunately, I live in southwest Florida. I just ran across your channel, and I wish you all the best. You are living a dream of mine I hope to buy 20 to 40 acres up north one day and do some of the things you are doing. I look forward to seeing what you do next, and congrats on your new place. I love it.
with all those apple trees and blue berry's.....be mindful of bears!....always carry bear spray on you, as well as a powerful sidearm....never hurts to be uber cautious. We live in SW Montana and always carry side arms and bear spray when we're out in the woods.

Noticed when you went down to the stream there was a burl knot on one of the trees. Depending on the species of tree this could be valuable to a woodworker. The apples and blueberries could be a potential source of revenue. What an awsone piece of property, loaded with potential.

You are working incredibly hard to clean that whole field out, start with clearing 30 feet around the building, and then start building up your firewood, stop throwing away things that you can reuse, you are going to need to get a garden tractor with a deck mower And possibly some implements to help keep that road up and as far as cleaning that whole field you can either fence it in except the garden area and get you a couple goats. They will do a beautiful job or get two or three of them and put them on stakes with the rope and let them take out a 20 foot circle at a time, plus you will have milk and meat that you will also need to build a shed for them. You will also need a big shed for wood .But now is when you start preparing for winter if you are going to stay there, you are going to have to figure 5 or six cords for each winter
I’d be burning that pile of junk you threw into the dip, then stacking the metal leftovers to be recycled…. You’ll be amazed how useful around a property that sort of stuff is. You’ve made great progress in such a short space of time!
i had ants bigtime in the shack i bought....stuff called boracare did the trick...used it after i gutted the place on everything.....base ingredient is boron

You've done an impressive job
You only need a tractor tire inner tube. A 12v battery and a small compressor to jack up the house. The weed will grow back. It will be a never ending choir to cut it. Pave a yard or so with stones all the way around the house to prevent undergrowth. Fence the area in and borrow an animal to eat the green during the summers.
Unless you are broke, you will really need a machine to fix the road and remove snow with, because you moved from a place with not that much snow to place with a lot of snow. Your house is not made for winter staying and neither is the access road. Good luck you are going to need it. Greetings from northern Sweden.

Hey there. This is great. Can I make a suggestion. Perhaps remind us regularly of the trek into the property. How far is it? Is the trail/road repairable? It's been accessed by ATV before by others, perhaps an ATV with a trailer would be a viable investment? You'll definitely need to replace the foundation blocks. I'd get some recycled rail ties. Facebook marketplace is one of the best places to find building materials for a reasonable price. Keep it up.

it wont take much to jack up that cabin .A hydraulic jack on a timber platform similar to the structure of the corners then you can rebuld the existing corners. I reckon a 5 ton jack would be enough,you only lifting one corner at a time and the structure is light and there is nothing inside
You need a cart/wagon to lug stuff until you can get an atv or a road built. Nice thing about being a caper is lots of atv's and snow mobiles for sale cheap. It's a great place to live, plan on moving home buying woodland, build a cabin and grow / raise food myself in the next few years

You need a 4 wheeler and trailer to move your stuff to your cabin and to carrying loads of wood , food etc., to your cabin for winter. I agree with the person who mentioned fixing foundation before it would be too hard to repair . Beautiful site with fresh water, apple trees, blueberries, wood are a plus for great potential. Try ant poison. Think its called Toro. They take it back to there hive and it kills all of them. Lots of progress. Apple trees are awesome to have on the property. Wild life love them. Havent seen all of your access to your cabin. What i have see it looks to me like you could access it with a small 4x4 like a jeep! Keep up the good work!

If you mix baking soda and sugar together and put it around your cabin's outside perimeter should help with the ants. It is lots of hard work that you got ahead of you for sure. Pace yourself and i'm sure you will do well. All the best to you and your Pup. Cheers !
Agree create a perimeter boundary rther than trying ti tackle an entire area, you just don't want them getting in to your cabin.
We get fire ants. We put small sugar mounds way away from the house or trails. Ants can just go there. Works great. I have heard that chewing gum works the same way but will also kill the ants after they have eaten the gum.
