I don't understand how it's the managers fault he isn't supplied with a certified big league closer? You can check and see the Cardinals and Pirates have just as bad offenses too statistically, but the Cardinals have a pretty damn good closer who can save games which is why they're in playoff position, where the Cubs could be too if they gave AF about the 9th inning. Ask Counsell from his Milwaukee days, he'll say how much easier it is having elite late game pitching. The Brewers win because they're just smarter, it's not a manager problem.
It seems like its been years since the CUBS have hit with RISP. It's really frustrating. Especially when you watch highlights of other teams hitting so well in those situations.
Although I am not a Cardinals fan, when they were good, they had the attitude that they were not going to lose. We have never had that killer instinct.
The Cubs have guys that can hit. Their problem is they do not swing the bat. It's much easier to hit if you swing. Suzuki struck out looking. Again. So did Busch. Morel. Swanson is in a 3-1 count and he takes 94 right down the middle. You can NOT take pitches in a hitter's count. You cannot take strike one down the middle. Continually each team throws a meatball down the middle to every batter. The Cubs take strike one about 99 percent of the time. Juan Soto does that too. He also has 125 walks while hitting .325 with 25 dingers. Something close to that. They don't swing at strikes but when they take strike one? They immediately are now ready to swing at the second pitch after NOT being ready to swing at the first pitch. They are passive and not aggressive. They cant perform in leverage situations because they just do not swing. They think they can "work" at bats. Morel still hits 4th and 5th every single game. Craig is a moron. All he has to do is ORDER the team to swing at the first pitch. Put the swing sign on every time it is 2-0. Or 3-1. Or 1-0. And if the idiots do their stupid "check swing" thing I would fine them one grand every time. Make them swing in hitter's counts and make them swing at the first pitch. And tell their pitcher to quit hanging 1-2 curveballs. They have lost so many game by a pitcher forgetting he is ahead in the count. Just a dumb team and dumb coach.

@@davidkeller2208 The Brewers are only 2 games behind the Dodgers for the second best record in the NL. Once their pitching staff finally gets healthy, they could finally contend in the playoffs.
Going 4-6 against STL, Arizona, and Milwaukee pretty much tells the story. This team is done. Disappointing season continues. Offense can’t score enough runs for their starting rotation.
Totally agree with you guys. These are the wrong players because in clutch moments they tighten up and fall apart. And Morel just swings at everything, and seems tempted by balls a foot out of the zone. I’m done with him and really all of them.
I have not seen a Cubs team play well without a good Catcher. Don't know where they will find one. Last year Gomes was playing over his head and that team was much better
Trade the SP for as much as you can get. The team is put together backwards. Build the team first, then go after pitching. When you get the SP first, they're either worn out or too expensive by the time the team is ready.
Saying it has nothing to do with CC because it's an organizational issue makes little sense. I mean isn't that why he was paid an exorbitant amount of money to come over? To inject some of that stuff over here? If not, bringing him over would have to be viewed as mistake since he would be an expensive acquisition that does nothing to improve the real problems. It's the equivalent of painting your car because it has flat tires.
Actually risp for offense is best metric. Been an issue for cubs my entire life since watching cubs in 80s. Jed needs to balance exit velocity with risp guys
No because the Cubs could go 0/8 wrisp , in 4 straight games , all of which were high leverage situations where the Cubs lost by 1 run … Then the Cubs could blow out the reds 20-9, 17-3, and 13-4 the very same week…. And their wrisp numbers would look legendary. I don’t have the answer… but using risp by itself , is not reliable.
They better change the philosophy on the DH position. Using it for giving guys a day off is fine if you have a competent offense. We don't , better get out the checkbook for a bat. With the dh you can not have to worry about defense and it can be an older player. Please send Morel packing , can't watch this guy tease us with hitting mistake pitches once in awhile. He won't get better and can't hold down a position
If they trade Mark Lieter Jr for crappy prospects , that will be another loser move. Hoping Jed has another Robertson for Brown move up his sleeve. But I seriously doubt it

*has anyone ever asked themselves if the players don’t like their manager? I mean seriously. This is a legit question. Are they making a statement by being terrible?*
I would guess this isn't so. He seemed to be on good terms with Brewers players... he was only in the playoffs with them every season. That organization is just smarter tho at the top
What an early ending disappointment! I am not surprised considering nothing was done offensively in the offseason. I feel bad mainly for the Justin and Shota. The rest of them should be a total shame of themselves. Ricketts, Jed, and Carter can go straight to hell.
Even past bad teams were watchable. Just tedious. Neriz has no trade value. He's at least 5 MPH below closer speed. Hangs too many to be valuable middle relief or setup. Lester has to learn to speak without having to be asked to, and compose sentences of more than 2-3 words. Marquee will love him, though. He mentioned in passing that maybe Swanson's Knee injury is contributing to his awful year. So Hoyer's off the hook. He's injured!
Among my tears you guys have me laughing out loud. You watch, any of these players that are traded are going to have success with the teams they end up going to. The president, general manager and the manager don't swing the bat or pitch the ball, but they account for the lack of fire in the guts of the players on this team. There is a general malaise on this team that exists because of the lack of front office and on-field management. I would love to see what Joe Madden would have done with this lineup.
No bullpen help, like a 9th inning guy for example... I wonder if there was one available in the offseason, when everyone was already yelling at the Cubs to add one? Maybe Josh Hader? Oh yeah, he was. Gee I wonder how he's doing? 20/21 in save chances and 4th in AL and Houston is back in playoff position. I also wonder if he's familiar with Counsell? Of course he is, he saved games for him!
Cubs are not motivated whatsoever. Management should be providing the motivation. The management just sucks, wonder if they meet with the team, working together to determine the way forward. Lots of discussion is needed. They are a dismal bunch of athletes, not much intelligence, too many are self-centered....thinking their sh..t just does not stink. I have been a Cub fan since the early 50s, have always been loyal, now I wonder if they have any hope.
It's not his job to acquire players. Say he had a closing pitcher for example, probably a playoff team right now like St. Louis with their offense that's just as bad including with runners in scoring position. They care about the 9th inning tho, got an all star, like Milwaukee usually has, like Pittsburgh has... The Cubs are better than the Pirates in a lot offensively, except for wins, because of 15ish games blown in the 9th. I don't blame Counsell for that, he has no certified closer.
If you as a GM, still lose to one of your division rivals who loss some of their best starting pitching and probably the best manager they ever had and they still got winning record against the cubs, you as a GM deserve to be fired Jed for building this mess, Jed. I feel like brewers lost much more in the offseason and still became better than the cubs. To me that is fireable as a GM for this mess.
CC is not a great manager. Thanks for taking him out of Milwaukee, he was holding the team back. You'll see for yourself. He makes the dumbest moves, has no passion, and he has a boring style of play.
They can’t hit. Period. If they could, they’d hit better with RISP… they WAY over performed their expected OBP and slg numbers last year… it fooled fans… and apparently Jed too
Cardinals can't hit, even worse with RISP. What's their secret? Why are they in playoff position? Bet a closing pitcher helps, someone you trust and know is gonna save games on a weekly basis. We can blame the offense for not being the Bronx Bombers, but at the end of the day, like St. Louis, the bats have done enough after 8 innings of hitting to be a playoff team. Sad and embarrassing thing is, don't even need an all star closer like them, just a regular old "good" closer, but instead, 5th lowest save %...yep, that'll do it for any playoff hope
These guys heard Hoyer, so why should they care. He has no interest in winning, right Matt he quit on his team and they know it. This guy has to go sooner than later.

I don't think there will be very many deals at all. Maybe guys on expiring contracts, that's all I expect.
Pat Murphy was probably the brains in Milwaukee, not Counsell Before the break the Cubs were running. Where has that gone? Give me all of D.Ross’ mistakes . At least he had passion. Can’t stand C C’s lack of it
Ummmm
You could make the argument ross made less mistakes than counsel. Idk what cc is thinking PHing for busch and of all people amaya who was hitting better finally
Brewers are mediocre. They are simply the best team in a bad division.
@@davidkeller2208 The Brewers are only 2 games behind the Dodgers for the second best record in the NL. Once their pitching staff finally gets healthy, they could finally contend in the playoffs.
Pat Murphy isn't doing anything meaningfully different than Counsell.
I am so glad you took Counsel. Pat Murphy has fire and taking not that great of talent of a team and being 16 games above 500 in July.
Ummmm
Counsell was the problem in Milwaukee. The Brewers have all but clinched the NL pennant basically
The brewers make contact, have speed .in addition great pitchind and defense
I have not seen a Cubs team play well without a good Catcher. Don't know where they will find one. Last year Gomes was playing over his head and that team was much better
Was waiting for this one as I saw the game unfolding.
The problem is that none of these outside of possibly Nico can hit velocity. Bring in a guy that throws 95+ and it's over.
Biggest flaw on this team is having Morel and Swanson in the lineup every day
Trade the SP for as much as you can get. The team is put together backwards. Build the team first, then go after pitching. When you get the SP first, they're either worn out or too expensive by the time the team is ready.
Everyone on trading block except Busch, Suzuki, Steele and Imanga
Saying it has nothing to do with CC because it's an organizational issue makes little sense. I mean isn't that why he was paid an exorbitant amount of money to come over? To inject some of that stuff over here? If not, bringing him over would have to be viewed as mistake since he would be an expensive acquisition that does nothing to improve the real problems. It's the equivalent of painting your car because it has flat tires.
Actually risp for offense is best metric. Been an issue for cubs my entire life since watching cubs in 80s. Jed needs to balance exit velocity with risp guys
No because the Cubs could go
0/8 wrisp , in 4 straight games , all of which were high leverage situations where the Cubs lost by 1 run …
Then the Cubs could blow out the reds 20-9, 17-3, and 13-4 the very same week….
Whoa! Whoaaaa! 😂 love it
Can't wait to see who works out after the sell off of our core guys. Looks like PCA might be the best one , and he might not hit better than Tauchman
If they trade Mark Lieter Jr for crappy prospects , that will be another loser move. Hoping Jed has another Robertson for Brown move up his sleeve. But I seriously doubt it
People giving Jed shit
Starting rotation - excellent top 10 if not 6/7 in the league
With injuries to Steele wicks brown
Bullpen - rough start but have been top 3 in baseball since June
Had injuries.
Lineup - this was a top 6 unit last year so it was reasonable for Jed to assume it would be a repeat
However they have been the worst in baseball
It’s on the players
Dansby Swanson is an embarrassment
anything. I can't stand this team
*has anyone ever asked themselves if the players don’t like their manager? I mean seriously. This is a legit question. Are they making a statement by being terrible?*
I absolutely agree 100% ! 👊😎
Naaa they just suck. They wouldn't play terrible on purpose bcuz of future contracts
I would guess this isn't so. He seemed to be on good terms with Brewers players... he was only in the playoffs with them every season. That organization is just smarter tho at the top
...and the hitting coach still has his job, good work if you can get it.
I am moving onto to Bears football and Blackhawks hockey..
You have my condolences just going from poverty franchise to poverty franchise.
Listening to Carter Hawkins on the Score was infuriating 🤬. These idiots need to go!!!!
Guerrero top 20 risp he could play 1st or dh. Possibly move busch to 3rd or 2nd
What an early ending disappointment! I am not surprised considering nothing was done offensively in the offseason. I feel bad mainly for the Justin and Shota. The rest of them should be a total shame of themselves. Ricketts, Jed, and Carter can go straight to hell.
Counsel we are stuck with, ugh 😫 and he's the killjoy on this team. Hitting coach needs to go & Jed of course!
He mentioned in passing that maybe Swanson's
Knee injury is contributing to his awful year. So Hoyer's off the hook. He's injured!
I dont know what is Dansby
He keeps missing his pitch
Hoyer put the nail in the coffin to 2024 cant understand why??!!
To be fair, they were able to up their scoring average in this loss... promising
There’s lack of momentum happening here
Among my tears you guys have me laughing out loud.
There's no way that BOTH your voices sound like that in real life especially the dramatic guy on the right.
How about 2 years in a row. No bullpen help and no star power hitter
Don’t trade the beer guys.
Brewer fan here. Isn't a big part of the Cubs failure this season fall on the manager?
@@BryanAbshirestay out
why not switch hendricks to bullpen? it seems his trouble occurs after first 5 innings
This episode could've gone a whole hour
Yeah Sam let’s trade everybody!!! Who’s all in for a total rebuild? That’s a BAD TAKE!! A BAD TAKE Sammy!!
HOYER MUST GO
Hey Chicago whata ya say the Cubs are gonna stick it up again today!!!😅
Do the Cubs have a hitting coach?
Trurang chokes up in the bat what doesn’t any Cub do this?
Plus!! He plays the same position as the Cubs ex-player, DJ Lemahieu, remember him!!??🧐🤔😏
This team quit on Jed before he quit on them.
That’s why you call it baseball
Like my buddy said, there are no Alphas on this team. And it shows.
Pay for a damn third baseman. Mastro should not be a starter, period.
Just maybe we need players that concentrate on playing and not podcasting.
The fire needs to be on the field!!
What's gonna happen is, they're going to pull a Orioles number on the Royals, then here comes the talk again!!
Hey guys be, I pay extra on TH-cam to not see or hear commercials.
Good bye.
Roy
Homers???
How about contact
Why does he pinch hit Busch in crucial moments. He doesn’t have faith in the right players . Let Busch play
