I personally find it just as awkward to say "negro" as the "n-word." They're both so cringy, I can easily see myself slipping up like that because I don't want to say either one.
I've said this before. The English language failed Glen Kuiper that day. Negro in Spanish is Black (color). So the fact that Spanish found land mass that was already populated and brought their words to the English language is what failed Glen Kuiper. Being the first anything has a lot of pressure to it, and a lot of hyper criticism to it. She is calling games for a team with so much non-field drama to it that it's tough to go into work and be as excited as possible to call baseball games on the field.
Perfect example is Suzyn Waldman - she’s been broadcasting Yankee games on WFAN radio for nearly 20 years beside the great John Sterling. She’s a great broadcaster and I honestly couldn’t imagine Yankees games without hearing her. It’s not about her gender, it’s about her ability to call the game well.
No, he's a coward who didn't stand up for his partner who clearly made an honest mistake and he looks like a bum. He looks like he comes straight from one of those Oakland homeless camps every day. He looked like a normal human being when he pitched.
Think she's bad? Try listening to an O's game when Melanie Newman is in the booth. It's clearly a DIE (yeah I typed that purposely) hire, and anyone who says otherwise is part of the problem.
Jenny Cavnar did a couple of games when she was with the Rockies, and every time she did it I didn't think she did that bad of a job. It wasn't the best, but I was fine with her doing it every once in a while. Hate to say it, but it's been pretty bad this season 😅
In the second clip ("even-up game"), Jenny clearly forgot the name of the runner coming in to score. Suzyn Waldman has been doing Yankees games since *2005* . You can't tell me there aren't THOUSANDS of women in Oakland who can do a better job.
As you alluded to at the end of the video, she does seem like she can become pretty good at her job over time. I think the positive spin you included at the end of this video must not go unnoticed.
I love the calls from Chris carry the play-by-play guy on the local station watching the A’s. He’s the son of Skip Carry (voice of the Cards) and grandson of Harry Carry.
Give Jenny a few years to feel it out. A lot of folks in Baltimore didn't like Melanie Newman calling games for the O's on MASN or on WBAL Radio when she first started out in 2020, but she has improved drastically in my opinion since then in calling plays with emotional relevance and understanding situational baseball.
I dunno what you're hearing, because Newman is bland, boring, and clearly a checkbox hire. Every time she's on the radio call, I go right to the TV play by play. There are much better female announcers in sports, and she's not one of them.
Lol what are you on about? She is awful, I just heard her today. The O's and Yanks each use some dyke-y broad for radio. Into the trash it goes. I'm so glad the Reds won't try to pull this shit anytime soon; there are too many northern Kentucky Boomers who would storm GABP and throw someone into the Ohio River. But it's coming and before long your favorite team will have a he-she in the booth with a rainbow microphone.
So I’m a padres fan and the pads just finished a 3 game series with the A’s today, and I believe she sounded fine, and is getting better. I think she just needs time to learn and keep improving. It’s like how you don’t expect a rookie to be great their first year, they just have to learn and develop, and that’s the same case for Jenny. She hasn’t done any play by play announcing before at the big league level, so she just needs to learn and develop, just like how we need to adapt to stuff too. Once she gets rid of the little bits of cringy announcing, (or at least knows when the right time is to throw a joke in), and cleans up some other things, I think she’ll be fine. It’s cool that she’s doing this and I wish her the best. ⚾️
Did we watch the same series? Man these calls are brutal, she needs to go. Not getting better at all lol, she doesn’t deserve to be on a major league broadcast team.
You’re comparing rookie players to “rookie” announcers? I played baseball until I graduated college and watched a ton of it and I know for a fact I could call the game better and I have never touched a mic in my life. You don’t get things like evened up or the score drastically changed from a solo home run in a 0 to 0 game early on if you just clearly don’t know what you’re talking about. Or the long home run bomb anybody should know that isn’t watching the game that it was a no doubter not one that just got over the fence, if she cant tell when a ball is clobbered already there’s little hope it’s not like she’s not been around baseball before. Poor Kiuper, twenty years broadcasting and very good at it and well liked and one slip up that he clearly did not mean to say and he’s just gone and replaced with this
I’m a Colorado Rockies fan and I’m not surprised by these critiques. Jenny Cavnar would fill in for our regular play by play announcer occasionally, so I saw this coming a mile away!
On Jenny's first game ever or one of her first, Julia Morales, a reporter for the Astros also did the play by play for Astros broadcast for a game in Houston against Oakland. While she did a satisfactory job, and i imagine anyone might have seen her as just okay, she had a moment I thought showed some potential. When Bregman hit a homer, she has a neat phase staying, "You can say goodbye to that baseball, ya'll!" Unlike Jenny, I felt Julia really brought in the energy. Perhaps with time, she can become a PbP announcer or something simular, but one way a good announcer can get people's attention is to have that ability to amplify the moment. Gus Johnson in college football is a great example of that. But yeah, there can be great women who can announce events, but everyone needs to be qualified, prepare, and develop the skills necessary to enrich the event experience.
Beth Mowins called a Chicago Cubs telecast a few years ago as a fill-in announcer, and she was an infinitely better announcer than Jenny Cavanar ever could be. I'm 100% certain that Cavanar was hired because the A's couldn't find anyone else to do play-by-play for the lame-duck season in Oakland; she sounds like an AI chatbot trying to do sports commentary, to be honest.
@@matthewbaxter6992: I agree. I've watched a few A's with this lady. Her voice is grating, whereas John Schriffin from my White Sox comes off as annoying.
Jason Benetti's calling (alongside Steve Stone of course) was the most redeeming aspect of the team in its crash and burn. Without him, and the return to mediocracy in John Schriffen as his replacement has left me without any motivation to watch. I'd watched near daily for much of the last 8 years, I haven't watched them live since opening day this year.
@@Brandon-im9wj the new announcer is fine in that he's a fan that thinks his team is the best, like Hawk. Jason benetti was boring and puts you to sleep. At least you'll laugh here and there with the new announcer
As you pointed out, the problem has never been that she's a woman, but that she's just not a great broadcaster. I don't watch the A's broadcasts but I'm glad to hear that she is taking the criticism and getting better. And you are spot on with how she is handling the criticism, at least publicly. I truly hope she becomes a phenomenal broadcaster.
That day when her and the Astros had both women calling the games, the Astros caller Julia Morales didn't have these issues and was calling the game like a person who understood the game would. Then you Oakland's announcing team, and she is really bad at her job.
The Jose Siri call from her was pretty brutal😔. I remember watching that game like why would she say that when he already hit a Hr that night and Yesterday.
Whats worse, Sox fan or A's fan? And I know I will be called a sexist for this but I cant stand that announcer either. Its her voice, its so grating, it reminds me of a teacher. She just doesnt have the voice for the profession. I have nothing against her actual commentary or anything personally as I havent listened to enough games really to have an opinion on that part.
"Coming in home and how about we have ourselves an even up game." I'm not sure an announcer having a stroke would say those words in that order talking about a baseball play. I think the favorite color is green trees was actually original.
I was looking for the other videos you made about rookie announcers that aren’t good. Why aren’t there any? Is there something different about this one?
Same reason he doesn't mention the female announcers that are liked by their fan bases. He once put up a video about the first female to get to coach on the field (1B in SF last season) and said 'women have no place in baseball'. The comments were turned off (notice in this video he criticizes the A's for that) so I made sure to comment in the next video. He denied he said it but deleted the video that day. Well,he’s an athlete,a former member of the team, and she’s a first year announcer looking around at a nearly empty stadium, and wondering how many people are actually tuning in and listening. Can’t be easy. And she’s gotta share a booth with Sasquatch.
This is how you criticize… I love your videos but this one you handled perfectly. I don’t think she is great either, but only because she isn’t and not due to external factors. Ending the video with the fact that she is listening to criticism ,and ( maybe) changing and thus giving credit for that, is the right move. This is how you talk about issues like this just using the facts. Keep making great content, I’m stoked to watch each and every video. Now make a video about how the red Sox’s suck but they kinda don’t and how they are exceeding expectations with the current rooster full of injuries and rookies while also blowing games with the most boring baseball ever constantly just to soothe my wounded heart please….

7:25 I normally would agree, as I'm not a big social-issues kinda guy, but I do think there's a ton of misogyny when it comes to women in any area of sports. Perhaps misogynists are just the most vocal, but any post on ESPN or Sportscenter regarding a woman covering or coaching men's sports seem to have an absurd amount of disparaging comments. Always annoyed me because I've worked a lot covering and broadcasting sports and have known some amazingly talented and passionate women in the field. Especially in the past, I think it's important to recognize, because women like Suzyn Waldman I think deserve credit for being courageous and passionate enough to pursue careers in Men's sports despite very frequent misogyny and undeserved criticism
I do agree with a lot of that. I personally would feel awkward if I were a woman working around a bunch of men. Some who prob wouldn't look at me other than a sex object but lots of people, men too along with women play victim now and don't take responsibility for not doing their job. For example, not sure if you're into Star Wars but the director of the newest show is very clearly prioritizing irrelevant things other than telling a good story and in turn is getting slandered for it. Because she's a woman? No, because she's not doing a good job to a product people loved. I think both things can be true. There's still sexism for sure or at the very least guys who only view women sexually in a work place but it's not everyone and there's other issues as well
@@iTalkStudios 100% agreed. But you're more focusing on harassment/sexism within the workplace, which of course is an issue. Of course, we both agree that people should be judged by their performance, and hired due to their competency I was more getting at the general attitudes of guys when it comes to women in the field of men's sports specifically. Not necessarily that they look at women too sexually, but they criticize their performance, ability, and worthiness much more, purely because of their gender Example that comes to mind is the needless backlash last year when a woman started coaching that minor league team in Tampa When women are afforded roles they don't deserve like the A's announcer, or last year with that AWFUL female kicker on a D3 college football team, it leads to more skepticism and criticism of women that are genuinely worthy of their positions - which I also think is a big problem with this as well
This week she missed who the catcher was and said Langeliers instead of McCann during a tag at the plate. That's the kind of stuff veteran announcers due when it's time to step away from the mic.
I'm sure every other rookie announcer is getting the same amount of judgemental eyes as this one. Surely if there was any other rookie that made any type of mistake, you would have made a video about it by now
There’s obviously going to be a lot more scrutiny with one of the first female play-by-play announcers, but the internet has just been cruel towards her 😂. iTalk has been no better
Lifelong A's fan here. Definitely wasn't easy, but it was a true test of my loyalty, and if nothing else, the adventure was fun. I wento hundreds of games at the Coliseum from the late 90's thru 2018 when I moved to Denver. The true hero of the franchise is Billy Beane. "Best GM" is arbitrary, but I challenge you to find a GM who got more results with extremely limited resources than Beane.
I love my Athletics. Also idc about moving this team to Vegas! Oakland has not supported this team, I've watched this team in many playoff runs in September, and the stadium remains empty. However firing Glen Keiper was pathetic, and been listening to him call my team since I was 9 and anyone pretending to be offended is a liar.
Would have. It used a different word if I were doing this. As soon as the acronym DEI became a “thing” the talent pool dried up because all the water was in the DEI talent pool. Hockey Night in Canada has a DEI announcer that does NATIONAL games on Saturday nights. When a goalie makes a save he doesn’t say oh what a save or great save.none says and the goalie got in the way of that. He calls the penalty box the box of punishment and he never seems to know why the whistle blows. It’s painful being a fan of a Western team that plays a lot of Saturday late games.
What’s weird is that there have been a ton of very qualified women that haven’t gotten broadcasting job because of their gender. I went to sports broadcasting camp when I was younger, it was really interesting. There’s clearly hella sexism in the industry. Knew hella qualified n respectable women there that had many rly rly rough experiences in the male dominated field. It’s so strange that a woman finally got a shot.. and she’s genuinely awful. Like this was clearly a diversity hire.. but there’s so many people that are both qualified and not men. This whole thing is so strange..
This is clearly a bot. Comment makes no sense in comparison to the video. It still has "4' likes. Don't believe everything you see on YT people. Do your own homework and check it twice. With the election around the corner it's gonna be bad
Yeah nothing against Jenny or anything but every time she announced for the Rockies we always lost every single time so kinda glad she went to the A's.

I personally find it just as awkward to say "negro" as the "n-word." They're both so cringy, I can easily see myself slipping up like that because I don't want to say either one.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
A honky.
@@dwaneanderson8039 Same here. I'd be embarassed to say either lol
Ok convinced they found something really bad in that investigation bc no other way they would have fired him
It's like someone who doesn't care about baseball is trying to announce the game 😂 that's the most I can say while still being nice
Completely literally, she sounds just like me announcing Super NES baseball games when I was 12 before my voice changed.
😂
Chris “Cur-RAY” lol. I used to listen to his great grandfather, Hurry Curray, announce Cubs games.
Hahaha well played.
Perfect example is Suzyn Waldman - she’s been broadcasting Yankee games on WFAN radio for nearly 20 years beside the great John Sterling. She’s a great broadcaster and I honestly couldn’t imagine Yankees games without hearing her. It’s not about her gender, it’s about her ability to call the game well.
waldman is an annoying asshat douchebag in person though
Her announcing sounds so bland and meh. Hopefully, Jenny gets better at this, but if she doesn't, someone else needs to take over. Wish her the best.
That voice it’s likely
Dallas Braden is actually a great broadcaster and he loves the team we need a better play by play broadcaster
No, he's a coward who didn't stand up for his partner who clearly made an honest mistake and he looks like a bum. He looks like he comes straight from one of those Oakland homeless camps every day. He looked like a normal human being when he pitched.
All aboard!
Dear god, she sounds exactly like Leah Hextall.
So brutal.
DEI hire. Stop walking around the reason why she was hired. Gotta secure those loans with an ESG score.
Exactly. Call a spade a spade.
White mediocrity
Think she's bad? Try listening to an O's game when Melanie Newman is in the booth. It's clearly a DIE (yeah I typed that purposely) hire, and anyone who says otherwise is part of the problem.
Melanie Neuman for the orioles is legit. She not an everyday paly by play though.
Melanie's bad too. I've seen her call rutschman Santander during a game and botch calls
Waldman isn’t a PxP though she’s an analyst and she’s decent I think. Beth Mowins is good and might be a solid choice if she wanted to do baseball.
I didn’t realize she’s the one that made the Siri call 😂. That shit was horrible 😂
As you alluded to at the end of the video, she does seem like she can become pretty good at her job over time. I think the positive spin you included at the end of this video must not go unnoticed.
"That changes the score drastically" -solo home run
Lmao
“Who was that anonymous person” lol
THANK YOU! You might also wish to do a Suzyn Waldman video, she is like a pterodactyl screech, goodness gracious...
Jenny Cavnar was great with the Rockies in her limited capacity role, she announced some games here or there and she was great at post game analysis.
8:04 "thats why i married her! great hands!" man must be getting top-tier HJs
Well said! The best should always get the job regardless of skin color, gender etc.
I think its possible she sees the criticism but its also just as possible she is getting more comfortable and just less awkward overall.
Former Whalers fan so I can relate. You know what helps? Minor league baseball and hockey.
"We have an even up game"
What the hell is even that
Now everyone is equal. Aren’t you glad?
I think she meant the score is tied.
When Bregman hit a homer, she has a neat phase staying, "You can say goodbye to that baseball, ya'll!"
Unlike Jenny, I felt Julia really brought in the energy.
This is literally the first comment I’ve ever seen that praises Beth Mowins.
beth mowins was still incredibly difficult to listen to, despite her superior skill announcing compared to cavanar.
@@frieborn5333 Mowins sounds like she's chewing the inside of her cheek when she talks....but she's not a bad announcer technically. Just sounds weird
The funniest part is that at 5:30 the call is actually from the same woman. She has been bad for years and still got this job
That headline is misleading. She's not hated. They're saying she's not good calling games. Take hated off of the headline.
Her voice is hated. We can tolerate a bad female announcer. But when a voice sounds as annoying as hers, people will tune out. And they are...
@@matthewbaxter6992: I agree. I've watched a few A's with this lady. Her voice is grating, whereas John Schriffin from my White Sox comes off as annoying.
The owner looks like something that escaped Dr. Frankenstein’s lab.
New white sox announcer is catching up to her lol

@@henrygagnon1547same level as that one guy who said knock me down and pick me up and knock me down again
As a Bay Area Sports fan, she sometimes sounds liked a Homer calling the Oakland A's games 😆 🤣 😂 😹
She sounds like someone calling a College or Minor League game.
That day when her and the Astros had both women calling the games, the Astros caller Julia Morales didn't have these issues and was calling the game like a person who understood the game would. Then you Oakland's announcing team, and she is really bad at her job.
iTalk is gonna get canceled by the Twitter mob with this one...
The jackasses falsely attacking him in this comment section already are. They're pathetic human beings.
"Coming in home and how about we have ourselves an even up game."
I'm not sure an announcer having a stroke would say those words in that order talking about a baseball play.
Same reason he defends accidental slurs. Dude has an axe to grind about what he feels are quota hires.
The footage inside the box is pretty telling. Dallas was losing his mind over plays and she’s taking loads of notes.
Well,he’s an athlete,a former member of the team, and she’s a first year announcer looking around at a nearly empty stadium, and wondering how many people are actually tuning in and listening. Can’t be easy. And she’s gotta share a booth with Sasquatch.
@@chunga1959 she’s not a good announcer. Sorry if that hurts your feelings.
I really appreciate this comment. Your support means a lot! And yeah, might need to talk about the Boston Mid Sox some point soon...

You earned a sub for that take. Very well said on just about everything without insulting or demeaning her. You are correct in that we should hire people who are the best for the job.
Of course, we both agree that people should be judged by their performance, and hired due to their competency
I was more getting at the general attitudes of guys when it comes to women in the field of men's sports specifically. Not necessarily that they look at women too sexually, but they criticize their performance, ability, and worthiness much more, purely because of their gender
Example that comes to mind is the needless backlash last year when a woman started coaching that minor league team in Tampa
When women are afforded roles they don't deserve like the A's announcer, or last year with that AWFUL female kicker on a D3 college football team, it leads to more skepticism and criticism of women that are genuinely worthy of their positions - which I also think is a big problem with this as well
You sound like some reddit cuckold.
He called the museum by it's correct name! And he had a phenomenal day! I blame the BBQ

Yes, he does, because that's what all of them do.
@@LouieKaboom nope it's just the loud majority that do
This week she missed who the catcher was and said Langeliers instead of McCann during a tag at the plate. That's the kind of stuff veteran announcers due when it's time to step away from the mic.
If people liked Joe Buck, it doesn't make sense if they don't like her.
They're literally similar, only that Joe has lower pitched voice
Having a strong LOW voice is quite literally the most important prerequisite to being a successful broadcaster
I was so sure Mr. amish paradise on the left was gonna be the one to drop the n bomb I laughed when the other guy did it🤣🤣
My respect for iTalk after the 6 minute mark of this video: 📈📈📈📈
I have never muted an A's game since 1968 but now, sorry, Spongebob is not allowed in our house.
I'm so glad you made this video dude. My wife and I ALWAYS mock her horrible calls. It's so damn cringe....
7:41 Bro, this is the weakest take on feminism I've ever heard
No one cares. It was accurate and anyone who follows the feminist movement knows it.
Guy was skirting on the line of misogyny the whole video then said "fuck it"
Lifelong A's fan here.
Then you're stupid
DEI hire. Yes. She is. It’s basic observation and to deny it is to accept delusion.
Wow, he mistakenly says a word and gets fired. Talk about bad day at the office 😂
Yeah and after 20 years being employed by them is wild too 😅
In today's lame woke cancel culture world, I guess that is all it takes. Hopefully he got a better gig after this.

Yeah nothing against Jenny or anything but every time she announced for the Rockies we always lost every single time so kinda glad she went to the A's.
