Just finished listening to tonight’s episode on my way home from the game. You guys are the best! Thank you always for your honesty, being so funny, and your wise updates each day!
AZ was a fluke and the problem with a full 162 game sample size being moot with inferior teams winning the pennant. The Phillies should be our model not 6th wild card aspirations hoping to catch lightning in a bottle. It’s necessary with our financial situation.
Hey Tom Ricketts! It’s time to move on from the Jed Hoyer era, I remember in 2016, you talked it up about how the City of Chicago expects to have a solid team that is consistently in the playoffs, Jed needs to go!
Cubs would be served well to focus on trading as many of Tailon, Happ, Neris, Suzuki, etc… as possible. Both for assets and to cut payroll going into the offseason. The “decent” players with “decent” contracts don’t cut it. Max Fried and Juan Soto should be major targets this offseason and a couple moves could open up further payroll. Combine a star or 2 with current players and prospects coming up, things change.
This team is great at doing just enough to tantalize without ever actually getting going. That’s why they’re not good enough and need to shake things up. Enough already!
Suzuki, Bellinger and Swanson are owned a cumulative $69 mill AAV, for a cumulative 3 WAR. If Jed decided to stack the the infield in the 2021-22 offseason with Seager and Simean manning 2nd and third with Hoerner at SS you’d have $57.5 million AAV for a cumulative 6.3 WAR. Suzuki was a scratch off ticket, like Shotah. Cody was a desperation signing hoping 2023 was the real Cody and not the guy from 2020-22, 24. Swanson had an average 162 game WAR of under 3 before signing for more $ than Simien with a career 162 game 5 WAR, Seager 5.7. We’re competitive if those players are swapped That’s how you build a roster.
Not a Cubs fan. From the outside looking in it appears the managerial changes may have impacted the players and clubhouse. Has that been a factor, or are there other high arching factors, such as the foundation/build of the roster?
@@DouglasAllen-gf8mu I don’t see them in the lineup. At some point we have to realize it’s the hitters who aren’t performing. The Cubs have hired and fired a parade of hitting coaches who have had success elsewhere. It’s the hitters.
I mostly agree...and will totally agree if he can't make at least two deals out of any of (Taillon, Bellinger, Happ, Hoerner), resulting in good prospect yields that some can play right away in 2025(bullpen, Catcher, 3B)
Guys… guys it’s simple. They’re not going to be sellers in the sense where the team is decimated. They’re just not gonna be buyers. The funny thing is, they’ll prob still have some sort of lineup to compete for a wild card still. It’s all in their heads now. Compete or go home.
I guess I don't understand why they are still allowing Hoyer to oversee the trade deadline. A team with the Cubs resources should not have to regularly rebuild, let alone rebuild perpetually. This year was supposed to be a year of contention. I don't understand why Hoyer still has a job.
With so many teams still in the playoff hunt, the Cubs are in a pretty good position as one of the few teams in seller’s mode with desirable players to trade.
who's really desireable that you want to unload. I think Taillon is the big one. I think he's likely gone, and you will get some teams 2nd or 3rd best prospect, and perhaps a couple more as a package deal. Other than that, who really has value that they could trade that you'd want to let go of?
My main question is…. Why to trade for “prospects” which have 10% to be good at the majors. Who, from this last crop has proove to be at least comparable to Chirinos, Gunnerson, or similars?
Cubs have WON 10 of their last 15 Games and thats with a ton of pitchers injured and with nothing from Bellinger our best offensive player. Only 3.5 games away from a playoff spot with GREAT Starting pitching. ADD A FRIKKIN REAL BAT AND TRADE FOR A DAMN CLOSER ! CMON ! Lets go !
You guys are good. Putting some enjoyment in an extremely disappointing season. I wish they would get rid of Jed Hoyer, and can someone please tell me what Carter Hawkins actually does? I have no idea.
If we got rid of bellinger taillon Hendricks neris that would free up a lot of salary for next year approx 60 mil Without seriously weakening the team Get a star 3B - 30 mil Approx Top 10 catcher - 10 mil We have PCA, canario, cassie, alcantara for CF 20 mil - star closer and another. Reliever You could get rid of smyly and bote that had no impact on this season and that’s another 13/14 mil Problems solved Cubs do have a lot of flexibility with this team *I know some of the above are free agents next year
I just don’t understand why cubs wants to sell we’ve been doing decent. Also we are only 3.5 games out of the wildcard with 2-3 months to go in the season. JED HOWYER PLS BUY!!!! NOT SELL.
The biggest mistake is the signing of Counsell. It'll take time but the hype and shine will wear off by next year. Counsells mentor is coaching the Brewers.
1) We should go after Soto, Burns, Guerrero, Chapman and a lightsout closer. There will be freed money if Happ, Suzuki, Bellinger, Neris, Hendricks, Bote and part of Swanson salary are off the books. Keep Nico to play SS.
Taillon try to get a good package for him. Neris got to go, bellinger, hoerner only if you get a good package back. Smlyl got to go. Tauchman if you get something good. Other relievers. Bring up Cassie, Canario, and others. Even Shaw.
You nailed it they tried to compete all also breaking in a bunch of guys we haven’t been every day major league players after lineup. I didn’t have delusional visions of this club being in the playoffs. I’m not sure how you could. They’re sitting nowhere right now I’d sell off, anything anybody had an interest in? They’re loaded with good players, but that team is not gonna win for a couple years Swanson might be the only one left standing if they deal Hoerner Happ Bellinger Suzuki anyone
WheelchairChuck here and New Subscriber... Nice job guys very entertaining & informative! Lifer Cubs fan 61yrs old, same story, different day! Hoyer should retire and run for President with all his bullshit & shallow promises and take the greedy Ricketts with!✌️⚾️🇺🇲
I am not sure our minor leaguers are as good as advertised. PCA can be taken as an example. They made us think we were loaded. Let’s see about Casey, since I think is the only one with probabilities to be a decent player similar to that guy Murton we once had and reached the MLB from our minor leagues system.
I didn’t enjoy today’s game at all. It was the first that felt like there were no stakes. I’m happy they’re selling but now it feels empty until kids start coming up.

Why not move PCA, he can't hit major league pitching. Counsel cannot manage a popcorn stand. PCA is afraid of the wall. Tauchman should be starting in center. They sat Morel down, Counsel trying to manage.
The time to move PCA Morel and Wicks for a guy with a proven track record has expired with their value already plummeting. The value they provided was as trade chips.

Jed hoyer needs to get fired immediately..failure to prepare is preparing to fail.he failed to build this team properly to compete...I think Jeff luchnow, former Gm of Houston astros would be a great Gm.. he was the one that build the astros.
Free agency. We need corbin burns or max fried. We definitely need Juan soto if the Yankees cant resign him. We need superstars on this team and a good closer. We need a catcher and 3rd baseman
I hate that everyone is blaming this on Jed. He has built a pretty good team a year in a half after the deadline in 2021 He made a competitive team that we all thought were going to be good and should win this division easy. THIS SEASON IS ALL ON THE PLAYERS. BELLINGER, SWANSON, AMAYA, MOREL all of them this season is on them. They are underperforming and haven’t made no adjustments and have no urgency at all to get anything going. The only thing you can blame Jed for is the bullpen and that is still something that all the injuries and nothing that they can do about it.
How can you be competitive when your owner won't allow you to sign elite players and handicaps you and tells the media he wants the cubs to be like small market Arizona diamondbacks team
Hell nah all-star? Dude is hot garbage how many games has he single handily lost for them. Jeez Mastrouboni is starting over him that should speak volumes.
There are some good signs he can. And some ABs are very young/frustrating. I think he has the drive to get better once he continues to understand the pitching. He's also getting picked on with zero lineup protection batting 9th in a not good batting team.
Take heart. That Doyle kid on Colorado was god awful last year, even worse than PCA like he was THE worst hitter in baseball last year......he is doing MUCH better in year 2. Get a new hitting coach! Never should have let John Malee go. Everywhere he goes teams hit.

Sam I was at Kauffman early July and yes Mr. Witt made the trip worthwhile. Something special to watch. Just wish he was in a different shade of blue.
