For a former #1 overall pick, he resembles Andrelton Simmons, elite of the elite defensively, mediocre at best offensively, has pop but can’t make contact enough to provide power
Dansby Swanson is a career .252 hitter with a .732 OPS. 2024 he hit .242/.701. Besides his power numbers being down a bit, he was close to what he should be. It’s unreasonable to expect much more out of him.
@@egrossen86 As far as his batting I agree, it's not his fault they paid him too much, if he can hit .270 next year that's about all their going to get.
I still to this day have no clue why he was even signed... at all. They already had Nico, and they could've pushed 2B for a couple years with fill-ins from Madrigal to potential FA pickups. He literally is Heyward 2.0. All glove, very little bat, and nearly $200M of sunk cost.
I think, if you’re looking for a vocal leader on this team, it’s Justin Steele. He’s the one with the fire and not only that, but the pedigree to back it up. In a perfect world we have more than just him willing to speak up, but for now, he’s the guy. Love the show, fellas. Go Cubs.
Is there any way to like make sure or keep tabs of people who can play well at Wrigley!? I’m referring to what Sam said about “ppls numbers are down due to Wrigley?!” I’m not sure how to take that when we all know, especially us fans how Wrigley is known as a home run friendly park, was it just the condition that kept the ball in the park or bad averages?! Not enough fans?! 😂🤷🏽♂️ basically I just wanna know where are the players that CAN perform well CONSISTENTLY at Wrigley 😫
Some opposing players come to Wrigley and just kill it . If they decide to come here and be a Cub a lot will just be average and some will fail outright , very few come here and Star for the Cubs . Expectations for FA’s and the pressure they come into are stifling for some players.
I really don't care what the stats say for Dansby this season because for most of the season his offensive efforts were anemic. I am sure Dansby would agree but I am really hoping 2025 will be a huge turnaround for his bat. His defense was acceptable for part of the season but he had some real moments on both offense and defense where his salary looked like a real money pit. Let's go Dansby, let's have a more superstar 2025 like you are getting paid for. Oh yes, by the way Dodgers win!!!!
The grade is fair, especially with the money he is making. But that doesn’t mean we get rid of him. You give him some break with nagging injuries. Most big contracts players has some down years after signing big contract
Talking about the Bears, I feel Chicago fans just put too much pressure on a rebuilding team like the Cubs. So the city is not a good environment for a team to rebuild. I saw so many bright spots on Caleb and the whole team that held Commander only 12 points for 59:58, and it only took a god-given luck of a tip to lose even they made so many mistakes on that last play. Even they did not make those mistakes, still there is only a very slight difference for it to happen. BUT the valuable lesson they learned in that game will benefit them a long way, especially young players. This loss is a very important building step for future success! I expected 8-9 wins this season, so I am not feeling so bad when we lost those three teams on the road against all 500 or better.
He is by far the best D short in baseball. SS, C and CF are D first positions. The issue is they got sub performance at the other positions that carry the load on O. 3B, 2B, 1B, DH, LF, RF were all avg production. None broke 4 WAR. If we are going to needle D*ck. A D first positions then first fix the O first spots.
I live in southeastern N.C. most people here are Braves fans so I've known about Dansby for a while. he's not Micky Mantle it's just not who he is, that being said he must hit better in 2025. Defense is great.
Jason Heyward, Part II. Biggest waste of money in 10 years. Dansby Swanson doesn't move the needle for the Cubs one inch. Hoyer felt he had to go get a new "face of the franchise" and he chose this bum. Complete waste of 177 million dollars. Hoyer should be fired for this move alone.
He’s not as bad as Jason Hayward was, but this is starting to look like a bad long-term contract. I can see why the Cubs are apprehensive about doing these long term 6-8 year deals.
But Swanson was a BAD DEAL in the first place. Ricketts is scared (on record) to go over $200M on any player. Problem is $200M players currently are mid-cards. Not Main Eventers. Cubs need a Hogan, Austin, Rock. No more Swanson's.
@@brotherhiram5682 ludicrous. You don’t may 177Ms for leather. And he only had a DRS of 7 this year (as opposed to 18 last year). Much easier to produce runs than to save them. Which is why if he performed just slightly above league avg w his bat (WRC+>105) he’d be a solid player.
Please, answer my question. If the Cubs are a major market team why do we perform like a small market team? Would Mark Cuban have made a difference because he put a bid in on the Cubs?
The Cubs knew they were paying for this slashline and elite defense. Now, should they have done that? If this is the maximum amount of pop and on-base that the front office can fit onto the field, then no! They should not have.
There was a reason why he held out to see which sucker will pay more, I will admit I was suckered into it when it happened, unless he goes on a tear, that was definitely money wasted
Agree 100%. He seemed more focused on podcasts and his olympic wife than the game that pays his lifestyle. His approach at the plate was terrible and displayed no situational awareness. I do think he would be a great supporting player to a superstar, but this team is obviously missing that star player. Definitely overpaid and not worth the contract the Jed gave him.
Offensively, Dansby may never get back to his 2022 levels. 2022 appears to be an outlier in his career. I think what he has been during the last two seasons is who he really is. The defense has been great, but Swanson is overpaid.
While Swanson's .242 BA is seen as bad......that's actually right at the average mark in MLB in 2024. When you couple that with the elite defense........you get the high WAR. Also, how can you say he didn't step up, when he hit .275 later in the season? You say that's what he SUPPOSED to do, but how can you say that when he's a CAREER .252 hitter? With that being said, I agree that he needs to be better.
Go watch game five of the 2024 World Series again and tell me that defense is overrated. I will take those limitations to help a team when the World Series.
Don't you think Paredes would benefit from a batting stance change? Paredes needs to Eliminate all his head movement when swinging the bat! Please don't take this the wrong way, but I've noticed many Latin ballplayers have the big leg kick, for more power... Look at all the big names in San Diego, they ALL do it with good success for the most part... Paredes is probably using the same stance he did when he was a skinny kid running around Mexico impressing everyone with his early baseball skills!!! But watch him in the box and carefully watch the head movement... Head moving down, back, toward the plate, forward and up!!! That's moving on three planes!!! There are no more than three!!! Now, go watch Soto hit that homer in Game 4 in NY... He's solid!!! BOOM!!! I'm an everydayer... Thanks!!!
He sucks, they couldnt give Swanson away even if they paid his remaining contract. Biggest waste of money in Cubs history next to Heyward. Don't make excuses for him, he stinks D-
Totally overpaid. His leadership skills are vastly overrated. No sense of urgency when the team was wasting the season mid season. The team can get the same defense from the minors.
I still have no idea who we were competing with when we gave him such a huge contract. The Braves offered like half that
For a former #1 overall pick, he resembles Andrelton Simmons, elite of the elite defensively, mediocre at best offensively, has pop but can’t make contact enough to provide power

I kind of compare Dansby to Heyward when he was with the Cubs. Great Defense , high dollar, low production!!!!!!!..
I do wish they would overpay for hitting or starting pitching and not defense.
Why did the Cubs signed Dan with such a crazy contract? What was the reason?
They didn't hire Dansby for his bat. They paid for his defense and leadership.
