I've learned the hard way that cheap aftermarket mags for my Glocks are nothing but trouble. But here lately, MagPul started making mags for the Glock 19. Because of their reputation, I decided to try them and bought 5 for $16 each. So far, they run flawlessly. For EDC I still rely on the factory mags but it's nice to have 15 or 20 mags loaded for convenience at the range without paying factory prices.
I have a couple MagPul glock 19 mags and honestly prefer them over the factory ones. Not a single hiccup! MagPul has got it dialed with the magazine game for any firearm
I have a Glock 19, gen 2, I bought new. One of my original magazines (no insert) split right up the line of holes on the back of the magazine. I carried it while on the Philadelphia Police Department and still have it 25 years after I've retired. I love it.
Yep, I still have my gen2 glock 19. I still have the non metal magazines.I've carried these on duty my whole career as a LEO in Southern California. They still work. Like you I'm now retired. Cheers!
I noticed newer Glock gen 5 mag base pads have a lip, edge that sticks out a bit more. I decided to swap out my regular factory gen 5 pad for a safety orange color Vickers mag base pad. I like the rounded edges, slight finger grooves for quick mag changes.
Coming from a production background I can say that not all inline changes are voluntary. Sometimes you quietly make a change to fix an issue that is occurring. An issue that stops short of needing a recall of a product, but an issue none the less. Bottom line is its all about saving face and/or saving money as a manufacturer.
Good to know. I just purchased a few 33rnd mags elsewhere, sorry Lenny it was a better sale, but when I received them I noticed the difference and was concerned they were fakes. Although I wasn't too concerned as I did buy from a reputable company, the thought still crossed my mind. Thanks for clearing that up.

Lol! Man it’s crazy tho that we are saying these are “high capacity” mags .. no they are the standard ones made for the gun . A high capacity would be like a drum or a 32 round one I would say . Damn anti gunners changing the meanings of things with all the propaganda
A really great, informative video, sir! And you've got the voice for a narrator who should be doing documentaries and making the Big Bucks! I have to admit, I'm not a Glock guy. I'm more an old-timer, but I admit, the Glock is one fantastic gun, perhaps one of the two greatest handguns of all time. I have nothing but respect for the Glock, but cosmetically, it hurts my eyes! Like I said, I'm teetering on the edge of being a full-blown geezer in ways. That aside, I have acquired a ton of Glock 17 mags for use in the AR-9 I built using a Stern Defense conversion unit. Through a swap, I obtained three mags that your video didn't mention, and I'm frustrated by not being able to attach photos here to illustrate my questions/concerns. The "newest" of the three has only the single right-hand notch for the magazine catch, no other "cut-outs." It has the metal insert, but has two circular holes to expose the steel insert on either side of the "17" and "18" see-through holes. It has a thick floorplate with "+2" and "1987" inside the stylized Glock logo. It holds 19 rounds, but that last round is tough to get loaded, even with a Lula mag loader. I might add that this magazine refuses to engage the hold-open feature in my AR-9, and the only Glock handgun I could "borrow" to see if it functioned correctly. The other two really baffle me. One is identical in size to a Glock 17 mag, has only the right-hand mag catch notch, but only accommodates ten rounds and has the number "3206" inside the stylized Glock logo. I assume this mag was either made during the Clinton-era "assault weapons ban," or was intended for the poor souls in Massachusetts, California (YIKES! -- you're in San Diego!), or some other God-forsaken region of the country which tramples the Second Amendment. Lastly is one that is shorter -- perhaps for the Glock 19 (?), has only the right-hand mag catch notch, and is only a 10-rounder (also has "3206" inside the stylized Glock logo on the floorplate. This magazine also has the numeral "1" stamped to the side of the Glock logo and word "Austria" on the back of the magazine. I'd really appreciate any information you might give me. From this video alone, I can tell you'd be exactly the kind of man I'd love doing business with, and I wish you all the luck in the world! Thank you so much in advance!
Glad you took your time to explain this my friend. I ordered a plus 2 mag extension for my glock 43. Love it! That grip now is awesome. I did not want to carry it until now. My glock 22 in the .40 is my at home gun. I want you or somebody to recommend a good weapon light for this?
I used after market Magpuls 15rd 17rd 9mm & 1 12rd Glock 26 9mm in my gen 4s 5s. To be fair, Magpul has advised customers: 2022, 2021 era the 9mm mags are engineered for Glocks gen 1-4. They cycle, work in 5 gens too but not 💯. If you carry a Glock 9mm for ccw, duty 🚔, home security 🏡, use factory Glock mags.
Also with Glocks latest magazine change: Austria is removed, Caliber, Loading Numbers and Logo are not as deeply cut into the mag body. When I was color filling the mags on my G19 Burnt Bronze USA made, the white color fill didn't take as good as the older versions did.
Several errors. Early (NDF) mags were partially steel lined. The Gen 3 Glock 21 SF does have an ambidextrous mag release. I believe the mags for these guns were the first to have the second notch on the mag.
SF model 20 had the ambi. I hated how it would get stuck sometimes and you would have to push the left side to unstick it. A button either side. 2010s used they were around in Fairbanks.
Sir could you answer a question for me. I am about to purchase a Glock 23 Gen5 mos with a 4.02 barrel, so I guess that is Glocks compact. It comes with 13 round mags.. I would like to get some 15 round mags for it and I would like to know if the 15 round mags will extend or will fit flush. Thanks, you do great videos.
Hey all ! Just found out my Glock G21 Generation 3 SF .45 AMBIDEXTROUS (magazine release) is the ONLY model that Gen 4+ Magazines will not work (catch & hold magazine) This is the only model that Glock has a standard full replacement warranty - they will replace it for free. The only magazines that would work in this model have a small window cut-out (exposing the metal liner) to catch and hold the magazine. Newer Glock magazines do not have this cut-out and will not work.
I would like to know at his age what Lenny does to stay in such great shape..... LOL! Lenny! I know this is not related to glock but on a personal youtube or the glock youtube i would love to see you inform us on how you stay in such great shape!!!
Are they still made in Austria? I can't get a straight answer anywhere online. I got a 19 gen 4 in April 2017 that came with the 1594-01 magazines. The 19 was made in Austria so I would figure so are the magazines. The eu.Glock website for the European market also lists the magazines with the number instead of the Austria mark.
There was a brief period where Glock sold Gen3 pistols with ambidextrous magazine releases. The cutouts in the front of the magazines were for those pistols.
The first gen mags are a hair shorter also. I have a G23 gen 4 with magpuls flared magwell and the first gen .as wont lock in but the second gen mags work just fine
Why is it that nobody ever speaks about the Glock 23.i have one and it is a great gun. Big enough and sturdy enough to head tap if push comes to shove. I have had it a long time still works well.
Glock 23 is very highly spoken of in LEO communities. Just the right size for most officers out of the box. Personally though, the best guns are full size with the grip cut down as much as comfortable. This gives you full sight radius while still being as concealable as a compact or even subcompact.
You can tell what generation mag you have because their is a number stamped on top of the follower the latest mag when I'm writing this is number 7 on the follower
you also have to figure in these mags are used in more then just Glock products. they are more or less now a standard mag. Forward and backward comparability is a thing they are trying to keep going.
So I recently purchased a 17, gen 2 and was worried because both mags once released stay in place, they don't slide down half way and can be very hard to pull out. Any recommendations on how to legally modify these two 17rd magazines?
Two issues I have with this video: Current Glock mags are all polymer-looking with double-sided release notches? My mags are Gen 4 mags with that metal latch on one side for lefties. Current mags are supposed to drop free? Mine don't, when the slide of the gun is locked back. I'm using Gen 4 mags in a Gen 3 Glock 23. (Yes, I live in Commiefornia too.)
The change was done when the manufacturing of the mags was moved to the US. (It was an import regulation thing imposed by our Feds that wouldn't allow hi-cap mags to be imported). This was explained to us by the Glock instructor in our Armorers class... If you buy a Glock out of the US, the exposed metal mags are what you get with them, also as stated below, the US made mags aren't stamped with the "Austria" logo on the bottom of the mag. That's the easiest way to tell it they were made in the US or not....
Yes the g23 comes with a stock 13 round mag so a g23 mag should work as it's it's 15 round mag, generation of magazine doesn't matter its more what model.
I have gen3 glock so the one side Notch is perfect. I don't care for the new style that has the 2 Notch, the old style means more and harder to fine and has the numbers on the bottom plate too. But to only get the one Notch older style is EBay, Private Seller, or if I'm correct the RTF2 comes with the one Notch also. Like I said I more greater to have that one Notch and when my brother got the RTF2 that came with it I trade him my 2 Notch for his one Notch.
Drop-free magazines are a USA thing and magazines that require a grasp and pulling it from the handgrip are a European thing. All that a tactical reload really means is the action of reloading a weapon that has only fired a few rounds out of its magazine, and retaining the original magazine. The original Glock magazines that swell when loaded facilitate this a bit better because you have positive control of it at all times and an unintended press of the magazine release doesn't mean you've lost it on the ground, in the mud or in the water when you didn't intend to.
Huh! No kidding. I know of Glock mags having the center cutout and the left-side release notch exposed. As I was watching this I dropped the mag on my newer G20 (owned it for a year) and wouldn't you know it... It's one of the new mags. Had no idea.
Hers a question for you all Down sizing my glock collection. And just keeping gen 2-5 9mm only. So I've got a lot of these 40sw mags. I know that 9mm will fit in the 40sw mags. And they double feed all the time. SO IF I PUT 9MM FOLLOWERS IN THE 40SW MAGS WILL IT STOP THE DOUBLE FEED OR JUST QUITE BEING CHEAP AND BUY CORRECT MAGS.
How in the world do you get a thumbs down ???? The guy is simply informing the public of changes in the designs over the years of glock magazines ..... There were design changes out in the field that some people misinterpret as being fake magazines . He just blew those know-it-alls out of the water ....... Oh nevermind ...Hehehe , I get it ......
The notch with exposed metal is nothing but a gen 3 mag cut to be a gen 4 mag & the middle notch is a factory failed Ambi mag release leftover. All gen 4 & 5 don't have metal exposed cause they're made that way.
Thanks for a great video. I saw your previous video comparing the Gen 3 and Gen 4 Mags - That was great as well. However, what I was looking for was information regarding the Gen 5 mags and if they are compatible with Gen 4 Glocks. Also was wondering if you sell Glock factory mag bodies/tubes or kits for states with restrictions on mag capacity. Thanks in advance. God Bless, Anthony 2 Tim 1:7 acdainc.org
I ruined a Glock 9mm mag trying to disassemble it. The face plate would not come off. Glock needs to make it easier for seniors and woman to take these apart. I did what all the videos say to do and it just would not slide off. I tore the face plate now it's no good.

God Bless,

Nice One
Ets mags work real good I would down load after use
You wouldn't have a glock without the 1911...and you wouldn't have a modern handgun without the glock.
you remind me of John C Maxwell :) like another version of him.
Thanks for this Excellent video!!! Atte: Pedro LEON

We're not worthy Glock.
I ruined a Glock 9mm mag trying to disassemble it. The face plate would not come off. Glock needs to make it easier for seniors and woman to take these apart. I did what all the videos say to do and it just would not slide off. I tore the face plate now it's no good.
Arthur Smith agreed. The lock tabs are simply unnecessary. No one else puts them on their mags for a reason.
Baseplate
Use a small C clamp to squeeze the part a little. WAY easier. Also you can take 1/2 of the notch out!
glock keeps changing everything so often that way everyone is in the dark.
You mean improving.... I love the simplicity and performance. I like a heavier hand gun but Glocks are great.
