      I'll admit, I live in Texas, and my first bike was an '02 Yama R6... Someone DEFINITELY should have told me to start smaller.... Of course, at 19yo I bought a 600cc sport bike, literally, bc my unit commander told me I couldn't. 3 months Extra Duty and the Article 15 was worth every second I got to ride.... I also hit 168 mph (~280k/h) and saw God and said "f*ck this!" And now, 10 years later, I think I've only gone faster than 100 maybe 2 or 3 times.

    • @Hendo2488
      @Hendo2488 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Jay B , But if that's the class that everyone *should* start off at, why is it patronizing to call it a "beginners" class if that's legitimately what it is?? I mean. I've owned liter sports and I've owned 2-liter cruisers, and I'll say the *most* fun I've had has been on an old 90's Ninja 250. You can toss em side to side and pop em up without any issues; but I also have no misunderstandings that it is *JUST* a small displacement bike, and I'll give it to my kid to learn on, which also makes it a "beginners" bike. There's nothing wrong with that. It doesn't make me a beginner for riding/owning it, but I definitely wouldn't ask my wife to start out on a ZX-14. Does that make liter sports "elitist" bikes? No, but it's a bad idea to learn on one. Screw labels. If you can ride, ride whatever you want. Just be safe. You can't ride if your dead. I should know. I LITERALLY *walked* away from a 40mph T-bone bc I wear *ALL* my gear, even in +110°F/+44°C.

    Sit on them and have someone hold them up, so you can put both feet on the footpegs. They will all feel different, and some will feel better to you. Also look at which has a dealer closer to you for repairs, which looks better to you, and which has lower insurance costs. Ideally, start with a dirt bike, or a bike with an automatic transmission, then one of these as a second bike.

    Neat video series. Though I really think the rule should've been 500cc or under, instead of 400cc. The CBR500R is more on par with the Ninja 400 as compared to the 300R and a very valid candidate as a lower cc sport bike that is also beginner friendly while having decent performance. I think the Ninja 400 will win this trial.

    The best “beginner bike” is the FZ07/MT07. That was my first bike and 10k miles in 4 months later, It still feels like the day I got it. Fz07 is the perfect bike for commuting and daily riding..

    • @tylerrupp5096

      Do you ride heavy trafficked freeways? I've been looking for nakeds in that class and the FZ has always peaked my intrest just because of the looks. My biggest concern is how comfortable the ride will be as my ninja300 just doesn't cut it for an hour long commute in traffic. Sadly no lane splitting out here in AZ for now :(

    • @Nik-xe3tx
      @Nik-xe3tx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tyler Rupp bro, I have ridden in snow, heavy rain, ice and the FZ somehow manages to handle it perfectly. This bike has a really comfortable seat and the position is perfect for someone who is 6’ under. I did get lower handlebars and rear seats last week just because I tend to ride the FZ more aggressively than before lol. But yea I did get it to 135 mph on everything stock but that’s 6th gear redlining it. But to answer your question, yes the FZ07 is honestly the perfect bike for highway and city. For long trips I just get a windshield but that’s it and this bike pulls past 110 mph and for this type of bike it’s really impressive. I did race my buddies challenger and he was surprised how powerful this bike actually was on the freeway. Of course he couldn’t catch me of the line since you know that TORQUE!! Hope that answers your question about the bike lol

It just feels like I'm going to break the darn thing if I push it so high. I don't like that feeling. That said, all these lower cc bikes are relatively lower redline bikes. I think the highest is the R3 with a 12.5k redline (peak power at 10,750 rpm) and the Ninja 400 close behind with a 12k redline (peak power at 10k rpm), which are still fairly high for this segment. My completely uninformed initial choice would be that Kawasaki. With low displacement bikes I think rather than gas tank size perhaps seat height would be a more relevant or useful stat especially for a beginner rider. Any of these bikes will go plenty far with a full tank of gas. I rode a 1200 with a 2.1 gallon tank, and it wasn't the end of the world once i put a gauge on it. good idea for a series. I am interested to see where you end up with it.

Though the ninja 400 is really disappointing as i mentioned before the 300 would be a much better choice I can't believe that for an additional 100 ccs they got 3 more bhp and 1 more Nm of torque out of the engine. And no it doesn't have better bottom end. At least not noticeably. And again talking about gas tank sizes, the Ninja 300 has a a massive 17L (4.5 US Gallons) gas tank, bigger than some 600s

The rest here are actually abnormally large. Just like gear indicators and fuel gauges were used to cater to new riders, so it tank size.
