Minecraft Elegance: Instant Guardian XP Farm, No Drain (180k XP/h and 90k drops/h, Java 1.16-1.20*)

- Superfast guardian XP farm that doesn't require draining the ocean monument and can be built in under 30 min if you know what you're doing. Produces XP a little faster than you can absorb it, at 180,000 XP per hour, and can generate about 90k drops per hour (dph) with Looting 3 (50k shards+20k crystals+20k cod).
* In 1.18+, the rates are about 74k dph (41k shards+16.5k crystals+16.5k cod). You can add an additional spawning area to the farm to compensate for the lower spawn rates in 1.18+:

NOTES
5:28 You can get a sweeping edge sword as an initial trade with a weaponsmith. This shouldn't take more than a few minutes of rerolling the initial trade offers.
6:14 Many fishermen will trade raw cod for emeralds at the second tier.
6:24 A cartographer offers a map to find ocean monuments at the second tier.
6:30 In 1.18+, the monument is not necessarily centered in the 4x4 chunk area, so the chunk borders may not be a good substitute for counting blocks. For example, if the tutorial states to go out by 1 chunk diagonally, you'll need to count out 16 blocks instead. The farm does not require chunk alignment.
6:45 You can build the farm to use one of the "back" corners of the monument.
7:05 I actually choose the wrong "side" of the monument for the tutorial. The 2 islands in the background will permit spawning of other mobs at night, and I should use torches to light up those islands to fix.
8:26 The guard rails are 2 blocks high.
14:17 Rotate the gates by 90 degrees to avoid cramming issues in 1.18+. If you still have cramming issues after rotating the gates, try widening the portal elevator as in this screenshot:

The portal frame is widened, more scaffolding is added inside, and an extra gate is added to each side. The hopper clock is also now oriented vertically.
16:26 To prevent phantoms, place leaves over the double chest.
17:14 Once you lay down some of the soul sand, you can go to the killing chamber so that the mob cap becomes filled with guardians. The spawning area will then be devoid of guardians, allowing you to continue laying down more soul sand in relative peace.

19:26 A cow in a boat can be a useful source of milk to rid yourself of mining fatigue, but it will also remove invisibility.
19:41 A well-known way to quickly find the 3 elder guardians in a monument.
MULTIPLAYER USE
For multiplayer servers, the farm works as long as no other player is in the nether, or if at least 1 other player is within 128 blocks of the portal elevator in the nether.
You can partner with a friend to greatly accelerate the rate of drops. Build a killing chamber in the nether, underneath the portal elevator, at the same X and Z coordinates. While one player AFKs in the overworld, the other can use Looting 3 in the nether to get 180k dph.
Modded servers often change portal mechanics, spawn radius, mob caps, etc. which will adversely affect the farm.
UPGRADES can be made to make the farm faster, but you are still restricted to absorbing at 180,000 XP/hr. That said, the following may boost your farm's productivity, for example, if you are looking to use it for drops:
- Surround each 7x7 square of scaffolding with a portal on each of the 4 sides, and make several of these units over the monument.
- Put a wall around the soul sand up to the scaffolding edge so that guardians cannot escape the bubble columns.
- Completely remove any kelp in your quadrant of the monument bounding box. Remember that kelp will grow back if you don't break the bottom piece.
- Place magma blocks on your quadrant of the monument so that any guardians that spawn outside of the collection areas will get pulled down. This causes them to despawn once they are more than 128 blocks from the player.
BUILDING OVER THE NETHER ROOF isn't permitted on some servers. You can build the portal elevator under the nether roof instead, with your feet at Y=117 when standing inside the portal frame. However, you will need to sacrifice the drop shaft in the overworld. Build the portal at the killing chamber right behind the iron bars, with your feet at Y=164 when standing inside the portal frame.

I've seen almost every single guardian design on TH-cam and this is clearly the best considering how insanely easy it is to build. You've just singlehandedly changed the meta for one of the biggest games in the world... again!

What about other mobs in the area like fish drops and stuff, and also the pigmen spawning in the portal.

I built this on a friend's server, expecting it to flop, as every guardian farm I had built previously didn't work well. As soon as I put on the finishing touches and went to the killing chamber, within minutes I had more exp than I knew what to do with.

It actually won't in 1.18 since we're getting individual mobcaps! From then on, every player on a server will get their own 70 hostile mobs to play with. They don't overlap though, which means you won't be able to stack multiple mobcaps in the same area anymore, but i think that's a fair trade.
@Robbierut I don't think so. It should be out within a month or so. This farm is great and will still be relevant then.

@Doomed Guy Where in the world did you get that? Mob Caps are how many mobs can spawn around an individual player, currently it is split among everyone online, but in 1.18 everyone will have their own 70 mob spawning limit sphere, when they overlap, you share the 70, when they are separate, you get 70 to yourself.
@Doomed Guy Yeah, just to be clear this is not about how many/which mobs are visible to you, once a mob spawns everyone can see it if they go to where it is. This is just about whether that mob spawns at all in the first place. If there are already 70 mobs near to you then another one won't spawn.

I've watched countless videos on farms. I have never seen such an informative, in-depth and clear video. Even outside minecraft videos, just videos in general. So much useful information in here. I love it
Crazy farm, still works in 1.20.4. This was my first time making a farm that used nether portals in any capacity, and my first time going on the nether roof. You made it all very accesible. For my purposes, only filling in half the soulsand gives me a farm that's plenty fast. Tutorial was super easy to follow too! Not only that, it uses fairly simple minecraft mechanics that most players will understand.

Excellent video. Farm works wonderfully, and it takes under an hour even if you build slowly and double check that you made it all correctly. The enchanting table and anvils nearby are a great recommendation too.

@@Fr0ng Yes, depending on the server. Smaller ones with less people tend to work better, but if it's larger or there's plugins that prevent AFKing, then not as well. Works best when you're the only person on sadly.

Worked like a charm. I modded the loot processing by letting the drops fall down through a spider web to sea level and have two item sorter there getting everything neatly organized. Very well explained and to use the despawn sphere is genius!

I didn’t want to make a guardian farm because i didn’t really need the drops or xp, I already have maxed gear, and an afk gold farm for mending (not ianxofours design, turtle eggs don’t wont on the server im on for some reason) but i kind of want to build it because it seems fun and easy, and i would like to farm every farmable thing idk why im wierd

@@Spuggetti I had an enderman farm , gold farm and and wither skeleton farm and all of them gave me exp. And also maxed out netherite gear will all possible enchantments . So I didn't make it (But my friend did ). I like building farms for fun.

I still can’t get over the fact that this is an XP farm with still insane rates, I remember in old world where I spent hours draining an ocean monument however farm took me about 30 - 45 minutes and is a lot better than ones I’ve built before 😂 what a design and what a creator 💕

@@zanckoyt7478 It does, but if for some reason your chunk borders arent lining up like in the video, dont worry because they are mis aligned for some reason. if you go in F3 you can see 0 15 0 when in a corner of a chunk or 15 15 15.
you've done amazing! I believe this is the ONLY guardian farm in existence where it requires no draining, and it is an extremely easy farm to build! so, Respect man!

@@TheTH-camUser69 I'd say comparing then both is a bit of an insult to their style of innovation. Gnembom creates highly efficient farm designs which are guaranteed to produce the best results(also, it's the generally a part of the scicraft server, rather than solely gnembom doing it)
Ianxofour's Minecraft Elegance series, on the other hand, is more of a smart way to get really good rates, by doing a lot less work in proportion.
You're comparing Diamonds, which can't be broken by most materials, to water, which can bypass the strength of most materials using it's fluidity.

You should have built his gold farm by now. The guardian farm is certainly faster but the gold farm gives you all the XP you need.

I absolutely love this series of farms, im currently useing the gold, iron, gaurdian, and honey farms and there all simply amazing, one farm i would like to see is a more advance iron farm, perhaps a portal based one with 3< viligers. I would build like 4 or 5 of the other design space is a consideration for me.

As someone who have built this in their survival world, i 100% recommended if your best xp farm is a cheap enderman farm (i got lvl 100 in like ~10min with this) and/or need a large quantity of sea lantern or prismarine. Simple design, works wonderfully, and quick to build. Good job

I really appreciate all these farms being made so much simpler. I've made the old design off of cubfan's channel many times since 1.13 and it has served me well, but this farm is on another level in regards to simplicty while maintaining and in my very recent experience surpassing the effectiveness of it's design.

While your farms seem nearly always based around two simple items (scaffolding and nether portals), the designs you create are always ridiculously efficient in terms of output per effort. They are usually fairly to very ugly farms that you might not want in a long-term world where you will spend a lot of time building farms and making things pretty, but if you want something quick, easy, and efficient, your designs are the best. There is one other channel with somewhat similar designs, but many of those are copies and aren't quite as good or easy, and your presentation is superior as well. If I want to find a quick farm because I need resources quickly for a giant build, or I want something efficient with very little effort, I always click on your videos. (That happens a lot.)
Keep the videos coming, and I'll keep watching. I'm especially interested to see your hostile mob farm design when mobs no longer spawn on scaffolding.
Edit: I wasn't criticizing the look of your farms at all. It's just that easy, efficient farms are not always symmetrical and easy to make pretty.

Brilliant, unusual XP farm. I always thought that enderman XP farms are best among XP farms, but this one is better. Its harder to build, but you also get free guardian farm at the same time. Worth it.
