- An exceptionally inexpensive wool farm that uses a redstone torch burnout clock as a BUD to shear up to 12 sheep at a time. I believe this farm works in Java 1.16.4+. For versions earlier than 1.19, refer to the Note below at 6:50.

NOTES
1:10 Mob griefing needs to be set to true for sheep to convert grass to dirt.
1:36 If desired, you can load 8 sheep in each chamber for a total of 16 sheep, allowing for one sheep of each color to be represented in the farm. Be sure to dye the sheep before loading. Also consider the 18- or 24-sheep versions of the farm, screenshots linked below.
2:50 A perfect layout of grass blocks naturally spreading onto the dirt under a trapped sheep will let the sheep produce about 50 wool/hr (600 wool/hr for 12 sheep). This farm is about 42 wool/hr/sheep (500 wool/hr for 12 sheep).
6:30 Water on top of grass blocks will convert the grass to dirt, so a layer of transparent blocks is needed to protect the grass.
6:50 Prior to 1.19, you can just place water against the leaves, as they cannot be waterlogged.
7:51 The rates assume that the farm is loaded and the player is within random tick range, so that the grass can spread.
Lightning strikes can burn leaves and kill sheep, so place a lightning rod a safe distance away from the farm.
Consider surrounding the farm with fences or wall blocks to prevent endermen from moving dirt/grass blocks.
8:01 The theoretical maximum rate of wool farms is about 70 wool/hr/sheep, limited by the rate at which sheep are willing to eat grass.
8:26 The daylight sensor intermittently changes the power level of the redstone wire across the day, which updates up to 2 blocks away, triggering the burnout clock so that it can shear the sheep more often. This increases the rates of the farm by 11% (555 wool/hr). Constantly clocking the dispensers will increase rates by about 16% (580 wool/hr), at the expense of some more redstone components, a lot of noise, and a bit more lag.
8:41 Some viewers have commented that the pistons could be placed in a row, relying on QC to power them. This works, but it's typically preferred to break the sugarcane or bamboo at the same level that it is detected so that items don't fall on the extended piston, which can scatter the drops so that they are more difficult to pick up.

Load the dispensers as you build the farm. The upper dispenser can be refilled by digging down from the collection chamber. The lower dispensers can be refilled by tunneling underground. - เกม
Innovation in fields like sheep farms are rather rare but Ian somehow manages to do it.

tbh at the point where you need to farm wool this way, you probably got more than enough materials to build the common design

Ian's design always the best. No wonder lot of hermits also using ian's design. It's simple and beginner friendly in terms of 'if you just start your survival world' friendly. Thank you for the superb design! I still use ian's iron farm even in my 2 years old survival world :D
true but like it feels more satisfying building farms as this one as they use minecraft mechanics brillaintly, even though I can build anything I want in my 1+ year old world I still choose Ian’s farms over other ones.
Only exception I suppose is when I need farms he hasn’t made yet.
i wish he would also make endgame optimised designs
@@YounesLayachi Isn't make gardian exp farm , quite end game ? The only 4 farm that can give more exp are , ravager farm ( wich can be maxed out by sorting them in powerfull stacking raid farms ) wither farms ( which isn't efficient except if you build it next to a wither skeleton farm ( killed by your wolfs ) and automatic gold& bartering farm ( for renewable soul sand ) running at the same time as you kill bench of withers automaticaly created by complex redstone contraption .
Also old dragon farm or massive furnace xp farms could give you more xp , but the change of version , or the lagg for furnace xp farm is simply not worth it ...
So gardian xp farm is the best farm one one could reasonnably build for late game , in order to avoid the crappy less efficient endermen farm .
@@gerardmatthieu907 guardian farm is early game. It is easy to setup, and does not require any resources or significant building.
Enderman farm is an obsolete remnant of old Minecraft that people are obsessed with because they watched their favourite TH-camrs build an ender ender 10 years ago.
There's 0 reason to build one today, neither in early game nor in late game.
Yes, the guardian farm is better than the enderman farm, but you'll agree that the enderman farm is trash and closer to endgame that the guardian farm.
Just because the guardian farm gives better results does not make it more endgame.
Endgame means : what is the best farm you can build with near unlimited resources and skill ? Something that cannot be improved. The last farm of its kind you build in your world.

With how long burnout clocks have been known for, kind of amazing that it took this long for a sugarcane farm to use them

Spent some hours looking for over-complicated wool farm designs yesterday for our server and this is just the perfect video at the perfect moment. What an amazing use of the game's mechanics.

I really appreciate that you explain the mechanics before building the farm. Like if the farm breaks, the information provided can assist in troubleshooting or build a new subtype of farm. I hope this kind of explanation help new players instead of them complain the farm not working while curse and swear.
Definitely. These designs are elegant and in a way simple, but I always seem to mess up something when building them. The thing is though that I learn advanced stuff by figuring out what I did wrong. I messed up undid some trap doors to redye sheep (I don't think there's a way to redo the middle 2 on each side without it) so I thought I'd make my own design where I could redye all the sheep since I was richer and could afford more dispensers and use a few observers. It works pretty well with all the sheep in a row and a dispenser for each, but my water collection isn't perfect, and I had to make it 3 wide to because the wool likes to go a little sideways sometimes. Just rewatching this video I think maybe making my top walls two blocks tall would fix it.
I wish all TH-cam videos were like this, no click bait, no messing around just straight to the point. Great farm.

Great farm as usual! We added 4 to our Day One Iron Farm server, and get decent rates for all colors. Because this is very much a “set it and forget it” farm, next one of the top dispensers I added a solid block, then a comparator, into a redstone dust on a glass block (to not block the daylight sensor) into a torch tower that powers a redstone lamp when it runs out of shears.
We did have the occasional missing sheep and disappearing leaves at first, until we realizes we were not in the savanna biome and need to take lightening into account, so it needs a roof or a lightning rod nearby.

A note on the burnout-based sugarcane & bamboo farms you showed at the end: I think you can place the pistons all in a row, because the side pistons get powered by QC. However, they might be prone to breaking after a while, because if the cane or bamboo grows during the cooldown period, there will be no more block updates.
That configuration has the broken item fall on the extended piston, which complicates collection.
I love the juxtaposition of this fantastic nano farm and one I designed a few months back, it's like a dream

I have always hated sheep farm designs that use hopper minecarts to collect the wool. I've used clocks that will push water through sheep cells to move the wool to collection before, to moderate success, but this system is just so clean. You've done it again, ianxofour. Good god.

I really appreciate that you explain the game mechanics behind your design. I love to know why the farm works so I can adjust the farm's design or apply the same principles to other designs (like you showed with that bamboo farm!)
Before this video, I knew that a redstone clock with a single torch would burn out, but I didn't know that a block update would restore it temporarily.
I also like how the farm is set up to allow the items to move upwards through the glass blocks. I think I've seen that used before, but it's uncommon. Most designs require the standard hopper minecart collection system, but they are so loud and annoying.

Tested extensively - another awesome design. The shears will last for about 9 stacks of every color. Yes is crucial to don't flip the trapdoors after putting the sheeps in place - they will move just a bit and will not be sheared anymore.
