I recently purchased both the plate holders and the tray from NUBS. Fantastic quality, service and price from David. It came fast and was packaged very nicely. Thank you very much David for taking care of my order with you! Thx again Bob
@@nubtools I took your idea and got some off of Amazon that are stainless steel, rubberized and super strong and mount with double sided tape. I like that they shouldn't make any noise, and no drilling is required on the frame. I was impressed enough with them that I ordered a couple more pairs to hang stuff in our camper. I'll be incorporating some of your other ideas too. I think you've put together one of the nicer lists of upgrades anyone has posted to TH-cam so far. Love your die plate with concentric circles. I think if I was going to make something similar I might do tapped holes in a grid so I could use it for fixturing parts as well.
Awesome build. The only improvement I think you could do now is put a cable crank system on it so that you could raise and lower the press plate table up and down without having to struggle with it.
I don’t sell the thick tooling plate that you saw in the video that I made, but I offer an alternative called the Handy Press Workstation. This part will come with pins that you install in your stock press plates by drilling a hole in the center. Look through the product gallery for clarification. Thanks, David
Well outfitted press and Very Nicely executed. Over each of my return springs I put 2 half lengths of PVC to contain any 'failure' that might occur. I'm gonna see what else you've posted.
@Nub Tools, David I have Pimped out my Hobo Freight 20 Ton Press over the last couple of years also. My biggest Improvement was installing a Pneumatic controlled 20 Ton jack on mine, and adding a Foot Pedal for the Control. And the most Safety Upgrade I made was tossing the Hobo Freight Plates into my Scrap Bim and going with Swag Offroads Machined Arbor Press Plates made from 50-A572. The ones that come with it from Hobo are Junk Cast, and have shattered under Load. There's a Video on TH-cam somewhere where the Guy barely escaped getting hit in the Head with a piece of one. I didn't use mine again after seeing that. I immediately ordered the Machined Set. Just a suggestion though. Once again Great Video!
Yah I learned about those bad plates and the videos from some comments. I found out that those cast press plates were on the older models that were orange and had bent or formed channel frames. The newer model presses that are silver and have actual c-channel frames came with steel press plates. I think harbor freight got the memo. This was the case with mine. FYI. That’s cool you’re pimping out your press too. Right on.
Thanks for the video -- Really well done! You have inspired me to fix my old one! Both beautiful and clever. Seems you did not add the air assisted hydraulic pump - good decision - my pump simply quit working years ago (took it apart, cleaned up, reassembled, and no obvious failure cause ever found). Hand pump still works great.
I like all the mods you did, only things i would add are an air powered hydraulic ram and some casters to move it easily. I'm definitely doing the shelf on mine since all my attachments are just stacked up on the pressing surface.
If you are on Instagram and you post pics of your shelf send them my way @nubtools I’d love to see it. Casters are something I am seriously considering after moving this thing around while building this press.
I used to do the same, but then I realized, if I dont use my tools, the next guy will, and they wont be gentle with them, I just got the same press, cant wait to start doing upgrades to it,
@@nubtools also if and when you start making the hand shifter can you make it so that there are different adapters for different makes? Now I wanna start working on my press!!
That’s something to think about. I don’t plan on doing a shifter handle like a did. That was just something I had lying around. For actual production I will be making my own grips. I’m glad you are getting motivated!
Who said Harbor Freight has to stay rough!! Now - I see one more area where you can "gold plate" this press! ....might as well, it's already too nice to actually use it!! A pet-beef of mine with about ALL hydraulic jacks - the very loose mechanism at the handle/plunger - there is play EVERYwhere! If you look carefully - ...follow the handle end to see and measure - there is LOTS of lost motion there. Every time you move that handle there is a lot of way and nothing happening at the plunger.... Whenever I get my press, THAT's where I start - eliminating all the wiggle and too big tolerances! If I can I machine new parts, take up play with springs and/or Bellville washers or ??? Imagine this thing working as smooth as a lathe or mill jackscrew wheel! Same goes for the release valve - either replace with a precision item or modify - that thing should move smoothly and fin tune-able.... After that - only thing you can do is install a electric pump and control - or a warp-drive.....
Warp drive! Yes! Now why did you go and do that to me?😫 That’s is a great point about the plunger slop. You are right, if that was improved it would make each movement more effective and enjoyable. Just when I thought I was done… Thanks for the feedback and watching!!
looks great and awesome ideas to use but why do all of that with harbor freight press my experience with those press there marginal at best. anyways not gonna be a negative nancy. awesome job
Thank you! 😂That’s why chose a clown for the video thumbnail! 🤡 Well It started off incident enough and then I just kept going and it got a bit out of hand. I will have to say that this generation of the Harbor Freight press was surprisingly impressive compared to the older versions where it look like a chimpanzee with a welder made them. The biggest improvement was the construction material they used thicker material and all actual c-channel bars instead of made from press brake formed sheet metal. Thanks for watching!!!!

Thanks for your business Bob!
I love the press plates and locating dowels
Thanks!
So helpful if you link where you bought things.
Great ideas Sir. Where did you get the light ans switch?
Thanks John! The light and switch I found on Amazon.
Love the jack handle storage clamps where can I pick them up?
They are from McMaster Carr. The part number is in the description of the Part 2 video in this series.

best mod improvments video I have seen. looking for the plates you added. where do I get them.
Thank you! The press plates came with the press.
I don't see the plates I have created a order. I literally just got my press last night.
Wow speechless , where did you get the press plate hangers?
I make them. You can find them at nubtools.com
Thanks for watching!
Thank you brother!!

Great overview video of the improvements. 👍 #5 was my favorite, The tool holder tip would save time on setup.
the press plates that are pinned and base that is machined.

@@nubtools looking up now. thanks
placed order :) thanks for information looking forward to receiving
Got it. Thanks Scott!
Dude! The swivel lighting and switch install is over the top! I might copy your tray design...hope you don't mind. Thanks & respect from Texas.
Have at it! If you change your mind on making one I offer them for sale now and they are way nicer than the tray in the video. Thanks!
@@nubtools that's fantastic. Good to see you capitalize on a great design. 👍
Gonna build the shelf and install a light on my press.
Of course it's because of your video 😄 THANKS
Awesome!!

Great video! How about more of the square dial Monarch 10ee we see in the background?
Thanks for watching! There just may be some videos in the future on my Model EE.

Thanks Wayne! I’ve started to roll out some of these mods on my website nubtools.com
hey Dave, thanks for a great video...wishing you and the family all the best, cheers from Orlando, Florida, Paul
Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving!
Dave where did you get the pole holder brackets ?
McMaster Carr
Thank you!

Nicer than mine, you win!
😅
Você é muito caprichoso. Parabéns.
Where did you get the base plate
I made it. Check out my other videos in this series to see the construction.
I ended up finding. Was on a TH-cam hole before bed and found it right before passing out.
Cool. Been there.
the tooling for that press is way better than the press itself in terms of general quality and aligmernt characteristics of the press itself.

100 tons
