In London, in the early to mid 20th Century, things were run on the system run by the London Hydraulic Company. High pressure water ran in pipes under the streets to work cranes, lifts in hotels, curtains in theatres, all sorts of things. Power was stored in 'Accumulator Towers', where water was pumped into a cylinder, which pushed a huge piston, weighing many tons, upwards. When power was needed, the piston was released, and as it dropped, it forced water back through the pipes to do work. Simple, and effective.
They had rights to pipe things under the streets, and though the hydraulic piping is no longer there, the rights are still valuable. They were bought by what was then Mercury Communications to lay cables.
COLIN: SAFETY GLASSES. SERIOUSLY. Presses throw shrapnel all the time! I love how punk your channel is but I really don't want you going blind. Thumbs up so he sees this!

Hey Colin, quick question. I'm noticing that your hydraulic circuit uses male quick disconnects on both the supply and return sides, on both the pump and the press. Was there a reason for this we're not thinking of here? One drawback of this is that you can cross your hoses, and if you do that, your switch doesn't always line up with the way the pressure goes. My thinking is that if you put one male and one female qdc on the pump and the same on the press, and you make your hoses male-to-female, you always have the load device connected in the same way, so the switch always lines up with what the pump does.

Watching this reminds me of when I worked in Machine Shop in High School. My class had a few different hydraulic tools that were always getting destroyed because of the way the hydraulic system for the shop was run. The shops hydraulic system was over pressuring the tools hydraulic cylinders. Usually the failure was blown gaskets, and in one case the actual cylinder ruptured, and severely injured a kid the year previous to my first year in the class. I installed a limiter valve on the system my Junior year. I figured out the issue after I had a tool blow out on me luckily it was just a gasket. talked to the Teacher about what I thought the issue was, and we ended up speaking with the schools machine shop Leiason ( our school machine shop was sponsored by a local manufacturer) who spoke to the sponsors, and got approval for the parts to install to the main hydraulic system. The limiter worked perfectly, and to this day 17 years later other than replacing tools from just age and normal wear no blow outs have happened since.
Now you just gotta make an adapter, so you can push the oil back into your reservoir tank, unless you want a nightmare of having to fill your tank and the risk of overflow, when changing between tools. This adapater can use compressed air, and remember to use a valve on it, so to bleed off the air pressure, when you are finished pushing back the oil, or you are going to have a bad time. Xxvid12 the hoses and the tools have seals in their quick connects, and the fluid doesn’t compress so it’s volume only changes with temperature. All that means is, once a tool is purged of air, it holds on to the oil it is full of, and when you connect it up for the second time, the reserve tank doesn’t have to “give” the tool any oil. Put simply, he doesn’t need to worry about the tank over flowing, because the tools don’t drain when you disconnect them.

I just discovered your channel and I love it. I didn't realise it was you that put he Christmas tree through your house, I remember seeing it on national news at the time. Respect!
Unlike air, hydraulic fluid or water doesn't compress. So if you have a air hose under pressure, or a car tire and have a rupture that pressure will rapidly expand and explode or in the case of an air hose, you get that *pop* as you disconnect the hoses. With hydraulics, there is no build up pressure because the fluid isn't compressed, so you might get a slight dribble. To use the hose/tire analogy, if you stabbed that hose pushing 10 tonnes of force, you wouldn't get an explosion, you'd get a few drops of fluid and then a slow leak. So assuming those quick release fittings are made to reduce spillage, and have some sort of chamber that stops the fluid from leaking, most likely you get just a few drops. Even if they were under tremendous pressure, same thing. Air hoses, you get a huge blast of air, a loud pop and sometimes the air pressure is strong enough to keep forcing out against the power of the spring meant to close the valve. That is the crazy difference between compressible, and non-compressible fluids. I learned this working at an auto body shop, where my boss told me the bit of air we use to spray paint a car, is much more dangerous than the insane pressured fluid we used to lift those cars up! Rupture one, and you can be seriously injured, deafened, and cause huge damage, and the other... I'll be mopping up a bit of oily fluid. Lol Still blows my mind to this day!
Hi Colin, I have a small 12 ton hand press at home, uses a little pot jack. The chassis on that flexes even when using it in standard configuration. I think they're just designed like that :)

Colin Furze i have an amazing idea the peel p50 is the smallest car in the world but it needs you to make it the smallest turbo charged and fastest car in the world you know it makes sense do this
Turbocharging a car is a massive, massive process. You're causing more heat so at the minimum you need to re-gap your piston rings for new tolerances, if the engine, geerbox, clutch etc can actually take the new power stock, which is a while other issue. You need to ensure air/fuel mix is exact. Not to mention entirely new ECU (although p50 won't have one i think) and dialling in the boost levels, blowoff/recirc, valves, managing knock... Plus you're probably not going to get much power anyway... HOWEVER, the classic 600cc furze swap would be incredible!!

Please make yourself full-coverage body armor to protect yourself in all future videos! I'm talking gloves, eye protection, respirator, fire and small explosion proof, knife resistant, all the bells and whistles!
Iron man
in a shed WITH A BOX OF SCRAPS
His safety tie gives him a protective forcefield, he's fine.
Today on Colin Furze Channel. The workshop haff no hyrolic press and we must deal with it.
And that we did
Vat da fak! This English youtuber has built a press which is highly dangerous, and could collapse at any time, so we must deal with him...
This could be my favorite video. That may be crazy to say, but I LOVE this idea. Masterful execution as well. Adjustment valves was on my mind all through the beginning. Can't wait to see what's next!
Velkum to the Colin Furze chann-ell. I'm Colin, end too-day vee are going to build a hoodrolick press for so vee can deal vith things.
Heer wee gou!
This guy single handedly made me choose to do Design GCSE
You'll regret it trust me lol
Don't forget, Colin's only formal training is as a plumber! You don't need fancy schooling to be curious and creative!
Mateee seriously not worth it, absolutely bollocks. Computer science or something would be better
Ignore the trolls mate, definitely do your design GCS and enjoy it, have fun! It was my favourite topic at school, along with the sciences. I followed through with that as my goal, and now I get to design super yachts for a living. Not gunna lie.... the money ain't great and the uni debt is savage, but designing something big and seeing it come into fruition is worth it in the end😀
Rory Sucks design shit for the cannabis industry, there’s more money in it.
Hry colin. I have a sprinter van and want to add a automatic jack system to it. 4 rams with 4 controls but have no knowledge on hydrolic rams or pumps. im guessing hyro is better than air as i dont need them to be super fast. Love your work.
Colin you listen to good music
Where the heck was the Punk British metal?
I thought so too! I'm curious how he finds it all
I actually hate it it gives me a seizure
go listen to the tony hawk pro skater soundtrack.. you'll love it lol
Now you could make one of those car lifts that pop of your driveway.
That would really tickle my fancy... I aspire to projects like that!!
can we please get more details (or plans) for the press plumbing?
Shame no reply 1 year on :(
who knew Colin was building a tunnel to his bunker with a hydraulic powered shovel ?
I wish I had a shop like that!!! HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY 💖💕💜💗💘💛
Mark, I’ve been meaning to ask you this, will you be my valentine? UwU
most creative man I've ever seen
Wicked build colin but won't you get hydraulic oil everywhere when switching between different hydraulic tools?
The quick connect got a seal on both ends. Might be a tiny little bit, just enough to make you see it when sitting down at the dinner table 😉 uses that kind on tractors all the time
@@MrSkureklut do you know if those things can be safely disconnected when und er pressure? Comparing to air tooling I would think one would do such things suite commonly.
Nah you can't get them undone under pressure.
You can dump the pressure in the system normally
@@maesto on the ones I have used, it is possible, only hard as f**. You would press them in, then thug them out again. With full pressure, I recon there is no go, but some is possible, like taking of hydraulic from a gate that's under pressure
pressed the notification quicker than the hydraulic system
I know this video has been up for while but Colin please take note, you are using a plug and socket for use on 12/24vdc systems. It's not rated for 240vac mate. And when you open the cover of the socket it has exposed terminals at...... you guessed it 240VAC!!! Think of the children Colin!!! 🤣🤣🤣 but seriously please use correct rated gear for any electrical...... and still loving your work mate 🤘👍
I never understand anything... but i still like watching it
I think he explains things nicely!
This guy is amazing.Giant hulkbuster?Yes.Firework guns?Yes.And now this
I don’t find the wire stuff boring, if you want to show it!
I learn lots from your channel, good job
Make a super over powered garage hose
Flow rate would be crap with a pump that small.
Legend.
Mug ordered, keep up the good work sir. Making Lincolnshire proud
Well isn’t that snazzy. Nicely done, I think the flow control is genius
now you're the hydraulic press channel...... 🤔🤔🤔🤔..... no wait.......
Furze Monopoly coming soon
PETA HCE OPEN UP
notice at 3:46 his carpet is screwed to a plank of wood. i wonder what that is for ? , LOL now.
I just discovered your channel and I love it. I didn't realise it was you that put he Christmas tree through your house, I remember seeing it on national news at the time. Respect!
1:17 Was there no squirrel on that tree?
Hey Colin you remember your flamethrower scooter? Did you get arrested for it?
yup
Very nice! Another addition to the shop coming soon.
*_You Such A Crazy Brilliant Man_*
8:50 That laugh is scarier than any other super villain's laugh
I get more and more envious of your shed with every video
How much oil is released at high pressure - albeit momentarily - when you disconnect those quick-release fittings?
@danteelite - Thank you Sir, most illuminating.
None, when you disconnect them the pressure is already gone and the fitting is designed to not leak.
well done Colin, really like your style man. Your creativity is inspiring and hey your a good bit of fun to watch. thank you!
Hi Colin, I have a small 12 ton hand press at home, uses a little pot jack. The chassis on that flexes even when using it in standard configuration. I think they're just designed like that :)
Grinding on a high pressure cylinder, and then pressing without glasses.
Better you than me :-)
Make an amphibious vehicle.
Well he made a reverse-amphibious vehicle with his water-filled car, there's that
@@Lrofmaulol love it
Damn that would be good. I feel like he's running out of ideas too, so, I hope he sees this.
It always fascinates me how smart, creative, and hard working you are. Keep up the good work!
Nice Colin
Love from india....
Could u turn a golf cart into a tank and name it THE COLINATOR-5000
Plus keep doing what u are doing i love ur videos!
Amazing job Colin! I'm gonna steal your technique to build a manometer socket on a tube!

It is pressing down on my depression
You could say it's... Depression compression! I'll see myself out.
Hello Colin! Very neat stuff, I'm new to the channel, binging your videos at the moment.
My grand father was a toolmaker himself, and he made one like yours to chop his wood with an axehead at the tip it. It brings back good memories of his messes!
Love it, keep at it!

Gavin Wheeldon yep, i very much doubt a 50cc engine would even produce enough exhaust pressure to power a turbocharger in the first place
Colin is my spirit animal
make the Door Hydraulic.
Sounds dangerous. It's perfect.
Didn’t he build a bunker a while ago? That seems like the perfect place for a hydraulic door.
When do whenever he's going to show us his Lego collection
This Machine is absolutely smashing
10:44 you just made a napkin holder out of box steel lmao
