    Have the winch line come in the center and attach directly to the finger brake. Then you can lift it and move the shop press center channel, lower the finger brake to the ground, and put the channel back in. I saw it do this way on another channel with a press that has a press cylinder that can move side to side.

    Frank, could you just drill a couple holes in the handles of the beams instead of getting carabiners? Also are there any kind of stops in the pins under your beams, maybe drill a couple holes in them and put some hair pins in if they don’t to keep them from vibrating out.
    Thanks for sharing, see you next week.

    With weight on the pins, cut angle or tubing the length between the flanges.
    Then weld.
    When putting the pins in, you won’t have to find the hole on the other side.
    On the bottom support/feet weld an angle to the back, install 4 stud casters. The larger the wheels the taller it raises the press.
    Thanks for your video.

    Hi Frank, I replaced my hyd Jack with an air/hyd several years ago. So far I’ve not used it, I still pump the handle because it’s easy. Should have saved the money

    can you please tell me what kind of drill you used to drill through the 1/4" metal. An what angle you sharpen them.
    I'm new to metal work. I'm just trying to drill out the four holes to 1/2" on the two bottom angle iron holes on my harbor freight press. I'm using HSS drill and it isn't working. thany you, and i look forward to watching more of your videos. this was first one.

      I generally use standard twist drills. I like the Dewalt black oxide drill bits, available at almost any hardware store. But most major name brands (Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Cle-Line, etc) will work. Nearly all come with a 118 deg grind which is suitable for most ferrous metals (iron and steel). Drilling by hand requires a sharp bit and significant pressure and a relatively low speed. Some cutting oil helps.

    • @azintrepid1
      @azintrepid1 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @woodandmetalshoptime8048 ok. thanks for the info. I'm going to sharpen the drill. my drill press is a craftsman 2/3 hp bench press. The lowest speed is 620 rpm. I guess I'll try that speed and some cutting oil.

    What role do those springs play in the normal operation of the press ? Wouldn’t want to be near that thing if they let go.

    • @woodandmetalshoptime8048

      Return springs.

      I used to tell all the owners of those presses that those springs need safety cables inside, they all ignored me, didn't even appreciate my suggestion, so I don't bother anymore.

    • @paulravitsky2898
      @paulravitsky2898 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ruben_balea That's an excellent idea! They are under a large amount of tension when the cylinder is extended. I'm gonna incorporate both "upgrades" on my Northern Tool press.

    Thoses bronze hooks you have on the cables is as dangerous as a cocked pistol. To break loose have seen dogs break them.
