If you ever update this in the future.. Richard Hawthorne pulled 610 x 4 in the Animal cage a couple weeks ago. Thanks for posting this. Pure motivation.
Not a powerlifter or anything , but deadlifting became my fav exercise... 3 months ago i barely lifted 80kg , today im going to try 180 at 78kg bw. :D ! sick video btw looking forward for more !
Yep, that's what is usually used in powerlifting competitions. If we used 45s, there wouldn't be enough room on the bar. There are four 100 lb plates on each side, plus the bar (45 lbs), which is 845. Add the 25s on each side for a total of 895, and then the tiny plates and collars (which usually weigh 2.5 lbs in competition), for a total of 900.
Say the leg angle for doing sumo deadlifts is Theta. The reduced amount of work equals cosine(Theta) and the increase in generated leg force is equal to secant(Theta). For an extreme angle of 30 degrees, that represents a 13.3% decrease in work and a 15.5% increase in leg force. It's a trade off that some people are willing to take. If a 165lb deadlifter were to pull 800lbs at a leg angle of 30 degrees, he would have to generate a leg force of 924lbs. I hope you have a better understanding now.
1RM's aren't used to gain mass, they're there just to test your maximum strength. Most of these guys train their DL with 4x6 reps or something like that. Not that I lift heavy though, I'm only doing 10-12 reps because I'm insisting on not using straps and I have shitty grip (also no belt but that's not relevant). So that leaves me doing 1x12x180lbs with frontal grip, then 2x12x220lbs. Keep in mind that I'm only 15 and I have only been doing DL for about 3 months.
its a shorter range of motion so in theory it should be easier but it does call for more flexibility, and is a great feat nonetheless. Whatever works for you right?
I wish on Kutchers lift they would have shown the entire lift. They cut rite to when the bar starts to come off the floor, The bar did not look like it was going to budge from the floor never seen so much heart on a lift before.
In 2005 Konstantinovs totaled 2317 in the IPF and went on to set a WR deadlifting 906 (411kg, no suit) in the 275 class, beating a record held since 1982 by 1kg. As far as I know in IPF there are anti-roids tests?
Many good deadlifters are tall and lanky. Tom Martin is no exception. Check out my deadlift compilation #2. Hansen pulls 804@192 lbs with a very similar build.
The only difference is what muscle that does most of the pulling. Conventional DL, your hamstrings, glutes does the most pulling, and your back does the rest. Sumo, it's the other way around.
it's 50/50 because sumo deadlifting wasn't conventional until recently when Louie Simmons started revolutionizing squat training. They are easier, your body can lift more weight that way. But the bar doesn't go up as far, and for some guys it hardly goes up at all. There are those of us who don't sumo for PRIDE'S sake, and it wouldn't surprise me if Bolton was one of them.
andy puts 5lbs on his pull every couple of years and has a grip problem, benny is still young and it's not unreasonable to think he may pull 500 kg someday. andy can't really compete with him even with the suit and raw, well fuck forget about it, benny is a fucking awesome freak of nature
Best deadlift compilation I ever saw.
This video never fails to get me psyched up.
Why on earth did I HAVE to finish today´s deadlift training BEFORE watching this?!
I´m pumped!
A tribute to the greatest lift in the world.

I hit a DL PR yesterday and this video makes me want to go deadlift right now anyway.

The song is called waiting for a train by hans zimmer
Is there a place I can watch this with the sound?
Epic. This is my pre-workout.
You can't stop me TH-cam....imma open up another youtube window...... find the inception song (TIME) play it and watch this video!!! Now WHAT!!
3:17 - EVER SINCE I CAN REMEMBER I BEEN POPPIN MY COLLARS
I watch this pre-workout even when it isn't deadlift day...
its a shorter range of motion so in theory it should be easier but it does call for more flexibility, and is a great feat nonetheless. Whatever works for you right?
Where did the music go?
I just finished watching this video in its entirety....i dunno now which is better squats or deadlifts lol
Savikas....what a beast!! I wonder how much more he will lift in his career?
Nice video and music. What name of this song
magnussen is just a monstrous beast ... amazing
does anyone know the name of the soundtrack? BTW really good motivation video
I wish on Kutchers lift they would have shown the entire lift. They cut rite to when the bar starts to come off the floor, The bar did not look like it was going to budge from the floor never seen so much heart on a lift before.
what was the name of the song that this video had?
Very logical way of thinking
(Honest question) What is the right technique? Can you show me where each one of these men has gone wrong?
i caught myself keeping my back straight for the entire video... lol
Songs used in this video
Hans zimmer "waiting for a train"
Hans zimmer "dream is collapsing"
what was the name of the song played?
That was an IPF competition, so it would be a two hour weigh-in. I think Tom Martin is 5'11" or 6'
How tall is Tom Martin and how do they do the weigh in, same day?
Man....I fuckin love this vid
what was the song name before?
where is the music from?
In 2005 Konstantinovs totaled 2317 in the IPF and went on to set a WR deadlifting 906 (411kg, no suit) in the 275 class, beating a record held since 1982 by 1kg. As far as I know in IPF there are anti-roids tests?
goin for my first 500lb dead today- after watching this i know im gonna do it
How much do the straps help on one rep max?
Many good deadlifters are tall and lanky. Tom Martin is no exception. Check out my deadlift compilation #2. Hansen pulls 804@192 lbs with a very similar build.
SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME THE NAME OF THIS SONG???
Thanks! I new it sounded familiar.
@KindnessGrewUp Thanks for the correction, I got the title wrong. This is actually "Dream Within a Dream" by Hans Zimmer.
I just got so psyched up I almost broke my keyboard
Yep, you should try it more.
The only difference is what muscle that does most of the pulling.
Conventional DL, your hamstrings, glutes does the most pulling, and your back does the rest.
Sumo, it's the other way around.
Yes.
Good video
I love how the clip pops off at 3:17
Need to re-upload with music.
hey rewind it to the beginning for your answer or look at the title of the video
Why no Poundstone!?
Did magnusson do that raw??
I'm pretty sure the theme song before it got removed was Hans Zimmer from Inception
song name?
0:40 i'm using this pre-lift ritual from now on, fucking beast
It's a completely safe and natural curve. However if the lower/middle back is curved,no bueno.
WHAT ARE THE SONGS?!?!?!?!
Yep!
1:45 is beast! repping out 400kg is insane!
Does the world record holder at the end deadlift more than the total of all my big lifts? Yes.
3:16 ever since i can remember ive been poppin those colla's!
Music is perfect.
Is there no limit to human potential?
215 lbs (lifted) 15 year old girl 121-135 weight class forgot to put on belt so done raw =D my back is killing me though
Seriously guys this song adds at least 200 k to your 1RM alone.
i know, i was thinking the same thing, guy looks skinny and not that muscular, what freakish strength he must possess to deadlift 771 being that thin
The head ref had a laugh at Magnusson :D
I wonna see how someone get 500kg ;)
Now you can :)
and stronger and stronger
Wow we are truly awesome
@VercingetorixsHair inception from the movie
Any proof or you're simple his trainer?

Wonder why Iceland doesn't have that probability? Busted.
andy puts 5lbs on his pull every couple of years and has a grip problem, benny is still young and it's not unreasonable to think he may pull 500 kg someday. andy can't really compete with him even with the suit and raw, well fuck forget about it, benny is a fucking awesome freak of nature
01:40 - where is it ?!?!??!
Hans Zimmer didn't write Mind Heist, Zack Hemsey did.
60 kg man deadlift 3 x 275.5 kg I am fucken impressed.
fukkin love this video!
Guys with short torsos and long arms pull conventional ( for the most part). Short arms, long torso, pull sumo.
Makes me want to go dead lift everything.
ed coan's deadlift was 901 not 902
Konstantin is a monster
That's right! Pepsi pays me over 600 euros per month just for advertising their logo.
Because he has long arms. He's not actually that strong, but his body proportions help him out.
ummm holy shit. Does the guy at the very end hold the World record dead lift or something?
get some grippers man. they work wonders!
