I love it how at 2:05 in the video to about 2:16 in the video Dere is shrugging what looks about 500 pounds, and the kid in the back is doing bicep curls with 25 poud weight's. and he is shrugging at a faster pace then what the kid is curling. You gotta love it.
omg this guy is insane, i watched alot of workout vids, bb vids, powerlifting vids, strong man vids, and i train myself and really push myself hardcore... bu this... is inspirational. The opening was insane...
I really hope Derek will be WSM one day. His will and determination are unlike anyone's I've ever seen, with the exception of Mariusz. He is such a nice guy as well. I can only bench press around 120kg at the moment and watching Derek's video's give me so much and hope and determination myself. All my respect to you Derek, your one hell of a strong fellow!
Derek, you look great this year leading up to the Arnold Classic. I wish you all the best when you compete. If someone ca grab some footage of you while you are competing that would be great :)
Amazin bro. You know Travis is better than I think I give him credit for...taking third, nice. But Derek is just simply amazing. Considering this is the heaviest Arnold (maybe strongman comp) ever and he beat Big Z at it.
I wish I were one of the people gawking in the back during the stone portion of the video cause I'd hop up and be like... "can I join in?" Great work man!
@Gr8fzy, It's actually even bigger. I believe that it is a 12 inch "monster bell" to simulate the circus bell lift at the arnold and the handle is 3". But at the smallest it's the 10 inch MB and the handle is 2.5 inches thick. Monsterbells are awesome, I wish I had one but they are super expensive.
3 inches....god, it's like trying to hold onto a 230lb can of Pringles... Watching this guy makes me so proud that he's from Waterbury. I only wish I had been able to see him in person.
I assume you mean when he does the overhead press? To elaborate further, As Mac said the bar is too thick to just grab overhand because it's a 2 inch axle bar. But besides that, and maybe more importantly an axle bar is a "non revolving bar" which makes it much much harder to do a traditional clean with.
Yeah, I was talking about when he was doing multiple 414 Axel's. I didn't know that it was that thick, or that the bar didn't roll free. Make's it even more impressive! Was the 225 dumbbell a 2 inch bar also?
@Shumusa it's called a continental clean they suck but they are legal in strongman most guys grip get tired or can't hold onto a 2" bar when you try to power clean it when it's heavy
Man, I thought he was going to dead lift at 0:08 but at 0:10 I realised that he was going to lift the weight over his head! Holy shit man, what a strong dude!
Whatever it is, it's not human! He must have ripped a portal in time and space with his sheer awesomeness! Crossing over dimensions from the netherworlds, for the sole purpose of lifting weights, burning villages, drinking beer and mating with our earth women!
"oh no but lifting weights is for self-absorbed narcissistic flaneurs" alot of people talk shit about getting strong these days they just need to watch this video its fucking inspiring
I've been asking people all over, and I never seem to get an answer. Is there really an advantage to using an overhand/underhand grip on that barbell? I don't see how twisting an arm like that would help, if anything it looks like it might RESTRICT movement.
i saw a strongman in my gym do it before i knew what it was and it looked gnarly from the first time i saw it i think they practice it instead of the clean b/c in strongman comps and in life you have to lift shit that you cant exactly clean like an olympic lifter
His will and desire are endless. Have to respect Derek Poundstone.
Congratulations on the proposal! Much respect to him, he's so great and humble at the same time. Awesome!
I love it how at 2:05 in the video to about 2:16 in the video Dere is shrugging what looks about 500 pounds, and the kid in the back is doing bicep curls with 25 poud weight's. and he is shrugging at a faster pace then what the kid is curling. You gotta love it.
At first I thought 'that's not a bad deadlift poundage'.
Then he dragged it up his chest and pressed the fucking thing..
Derek was a police officer at my school last year. He is a very inspiring person
We are so proud of him I can only imagine how proud Kristin is~
omg this guy is insane, i watched alot of workout vids, bb vids, powerlifting vids, strong man vids, and i train myself and really push myself hardcore... bu this... is inspirational. The opening was insane...
Absolutely no hater comments. You have full respect from all of us here, Derek Poundstone.

This guy is a pure beast...
His last name is Poundstone? With that name did anyone doubt what profession he would take up? :P Best strongman last name ever LOL
Derek, you look great this year leading up to the Arnold Classic. I wish you all the best when you compete. If someone ca grab some footage of you while you are competing that would be great :)
Poundstone is just awesome. My money is still on Savickas, but Poundstone isn't going to make it easy for him.
that frame carry is amazing, Im kinda happy knowing I can carry almost a third of that weight.
Good luck at the arnold this weekend!!! I wish Icould watch it!
Amazin bro. You know Travis is better than I think I give him credit for...taking third, nice. But Derek is just simply amazing. Considering this is the heaviest Arnold (maybe strongman comp) ever and he beat Big Z at it.
AWESOME MAN!!! GL GG Future #1 in the making bro.
Incredible video. Great work. Good luck Derek.,
I wish I were one of the people gawking in the back during the stone portion of the video cause I'd hop up and be like... "can I join in?" Great work man!
Good Luck Derek!
Kick ass and don't hurt yoruself.
@gr8fzy1
purely for grip. the barbell is too thick to hook grip and the overunder grip allows you to lift more weight
Derek Poundstone: 2010 World's Strongest Man.
good luck at the Arnold brother
Impressive to say the least!!!
I dunno why, but the way he handled that 225lbs dumbell impressed me the most... Just really monstrous.
3 inches....god, it's like trying to hold onto a 230lb can of Pringles...
Watching this guy makes me so proud that he's from Waterbury. I only wish I had been able to see him in person.

Yeah, I was talking about when he was doing multiple 414 Axel's. I didn't know that it was that thick, or that the bar didn't roll free. Make's it even more impressive! Was the 225 dumbbell a 2 inch bar also?
Oh man!!! Inspirational!!!!
wow great trailer congratulations to the arnold and to getting engaged great stuff
also very cool that you train in an commercial gym!
@Shumusa it's called a continental clean they suck but they are legal in strongman most guys grip get tired or can't hold onto a 2" bar when you try to power clean it when it's heavy
This guy is a motherfucking tank, doing a training regiment to get myself to this level hopefully ill be there in a couple of years.
respect from italy
i lol at the first clip.Derek is pressing 400+lbs and there are people on ellipticals in the background.
His benching pressing is fucking sick! Threw up 200kg+ as if he was warming up.
I saw his picture at word "amzing" in the dictionnary ^^
Man, I thought he was going to dead lift at 0:08 but at 0:10 I realised that he was going to lift the weight over his head! Holy shit man, what a strong dude!
what an amazing guy
BEAST!!
I love this vid! gets u ready to move some serious weight...
My goal is life is: Train once with Derek Poundstone
LOL at this guy texting in the background 0:30
pretending like he just doesn't care!
His chest is so big that the range of movement on that floor press is the same as a normal bench press
@mrPuma1994
I laughed hardcore when I first saw that. I'm glad to see someone else noticed.
Everybody in that gym is waiting for him to leave so they can get all the weights back
Epic meal time music!!! Nice!!! What's the name of it because this fits him perfectly.
are they aloud to use straps on the frame carry?
epic meal time music :O
i cant help but laugh! everytime i hear this song i think of Epic Meal Time lmfaooo
I can only imagine how many people don't finish their workout because they get distracted by watching him train.
Respect!!!
this video mixed with this epic music is unreal... it makes me want to eat fire and shit lightning... every day
And his a police officer in the state of Connecticut.
I love it how all these skinny guys around him stare at derek, and the amount of weight derek is lifting is those dude's entire workout for the day.
it doesn't say it here but that opening axle press is 425lbs!!!! More than most people will ever be able to deadlift!!!
Cool, thanks!
@ 2:41 i thought you guys were censoring it because it was too epic for audiences haha. that would've been clever.
Is the floor press suppose to be easier? I don't understand what the benefit is of pressing on the floor vs a bench
Whats the song?
what gym is this?!?! they have stones, lots of free weights, bumper plates....etc.. it's like heaven!
Whatever it is, it's not human! He must have ripped a portal in time and space with his sheer awesomeness! Crossing over dimensions from the netherworlds, for the sole purpose of lifting weights, burning villages, drinking beer and mating with our earth women!
Insane.
Haha That guy in the backround at 0:54 is like "Holy shit..."
beast.
thats why they call me POUND FUCKIN STONE!
@Damnationization why you say that?? i would personally feel motivated to be in the presence of such a champ!!!
"oh no but lifting weights is for self-absorbed narcissistic flaneurs"
alot of people talk shit about getting strong these days they just need to watch this video its fucking inspiring

I've been asking people all over, and I never seem to get an answer. Is there really an advantage to using an overhand/underhand grip on that barbell? I don't see how twisting an arm like that would help, if anything it looks like it might RESTRICT movement.

Besides haters, I would really like to know what this guy eats.
i saw a strongman in my gym do it before i knew what it was and it looked gnarly from the first time i saw it
i think they practice it instead of the clean b/c in strongman comps and in life you have to lift shit that you cant exactly clean like an olympic lifter
