Which one of these camera works best for you and why? Sony FX3 👉🏼 geni.us/sonyfx3camera Sony A7siii 👉🏼 geni.us/SonyA7siiicamera ★ IMPORTANT - after making this video, the price on Amazon for the A7siii jumped up to $3,498. Now the choice is a bit more clear as to which one you should go with in my opinion.
When considering a camera for professional cinematography, there are a few features that truly set dedicated cinema cameras apart. Key tools such as LUT (Look-Up Table) imports allow for real-time color grading on set, enabling you to visualize the final look immediately. Shutter angle, as opposed to shutter speed, offers precise control over motion blur and is a standard for cinematic production. Timecode synchronization is crucial for multi-camera shoots, ensuring seamless syncing of audio and footage in post-production. Lastly, Digital Cinema Package (DCP) compatibility is essential for high-quality theatrical screenings, as it ensures your film will be properly formatted and optimized for cinema projection. If you don’t need these specific features for your work, then the Sony A7S III could be a great choice. It’s powerful, versatile, and highly capable for videography and smaller production needs. However, for full-scale cinematic productions that rely heavily on industry-standard tools, you may want to consider a fx3.
Both great cameras. I use the FX3 top handle on my A7Siii as the Small Rig cage has an additional attachment specific for the top handle. Works like a charm which makes the A7Siii my preferred camera.
I have the A7Siii with the Smallrig cage which is super nice. I LOVE MY EXCELLENT EVF when taking photos or videos in daylight. And for more complex audio situations I bolt on the Tascam 60D MKii recorder with twin XLR and mini plug to use my Sennheiser shotgun mic or other mics. Super nice rig so don’t really need that boxy little FX3 with the gimmicky tally lights or noisy battery sucking fan. 😉
I never had my a7siii overheat (I’m in south Florida) even 120fps 4k but I know my fx3 is basically guaranteed to never overheat with its built in fan. So many other features mentioned by Dylan make the fx3 the clear choice for me.
Did you mention that the A7SIII has a mechanical shutter which also can be set to close when turned off, this protects the sensor while switching lenses, the fx3 doesnt have this
The a7s3 also takes photos with mechanical shutter ! 12mpx is not good for printing photos or cropping to get more details, but in photoshop camera raw, you can maximize the resolution of your photos. So if you are a hybrid shooter with more video tendencies, the a7s3 would be a great choice. Also if most of the photos are going to social media.
There are cages for the sIII to give you the possibility to mount the fx3 handle, I also don't like the FX3 / FX 30 handle and for me it doesn't make sense at all, yes you can plugin an xlr mic directly to your camera but if you use a h6 / f3 you can link it to the camera AND have a backup file recorded in an external recorder and the joke: even much cheaper than sonys solution. Sonys Preamps are not good, unfortunately, I would rather use a better preamp and turn everything down inside the sony body
The A7S iii is down to $3198 at B&H this week but a month ago it wasn’t it was at $3498 so I went with the FX3 which was on sale for $3698 plus I got B&H to give me $100 off so it ended up to be $3598 only $100 more than what the A7S iii was priced at the time. It was a tough decision because I really wanted the view finder, exposure meter and mode buttons outside the camera. But I really needed the audio unit and the fan because I do interviews and all alpha cameras heat up on continuous recording for me plus the holes to mount stuff really comes in handy. I did think of returning the fx3 when I saw the price drop but I’m kind of used to it now. It was a learning curve.
Sony A7SIII was never so happy about a purchase longtime as I have been with the SIII it has changed my professional life forever. The price difference makes no sense
Dylan, the clear image zoom, do you ever notice that it doesn't focus as well? I tend to avoid it unless im using manual focus because it seems to no longer do face tracking, have you ran into this issue?
So I have noticed that the tracking box does go away, which is odd, but very rarely have I run into autofocus issues with it. I think there have been a few times and I remember thinking it might be because I was scaled in using clear image zoom, but there haven’t been enough instances of it failing for me to consider stopping using it.
I would have bought the fx3 if I saw this video 2 months ago. Hahah. Wait for holiday sales. Also, the Siii has an update which apparently settings are not save-able through. So once update I have to go through the whole reconfigure process. Any idea how to get around that?

Agreed. Both really are great. It's really, really tough between the two.

For the audio, just buy a zoom f3 and attach it to the A7siii and you have 2 xlr inputs and 32 bit float audio
That’s what we do some times, but mostly record those things sisterly anyways.

Thank you so much for that man! Gonna pick up an A7SIII soon! :)
Sick! You won't regret it brother. It's such an incredible camera.

No, but good point! I missed that feature.
@@dylanjohndickersonme too…?
I’ve got that for years but how do you do it?
Really? How can i do it? I bought it on 2022 and I didn't know it.
Yes, please explain shutter closing when swapping lenses with a7siii!
I use the viewfinder often for shooting video and your head is a great 3rd point of stabilization.
Do your thing! To each his own.
but for perfect exposure check viewfinder is the only option to do it

True true! You can also take photos on the FX3 though 🤙🏼
Now I need to try my viewfinder for the first time since we bought them 3 years ago ☺️ Thanks for the vid👍
Thanks for watching!
Something about that blue S I just like 😅
That’s interesting because I like ‘cinema line’ 😅

True!
now that the canon R5 II hybrid camera has come around i think the sony FX3 is due for an update With better features....nice comparison.....👍
Hi! I have a question if thats ok. How did you make your gridline color white? Is it only an a7sIII thing?
Interesting! Ya I'm not sure!
Oh so they took out the viewfinder and gave us extra goodies such as red lights, fantastic
So spicy boi
I wonder if the A7siii will be getting the shutter angle upgrade. I have the fx30 and love that new feature would like to have it on my a7siii
I doubt it, since it's not 'video focused', but who knows. Maybe they will!

@@anghelescunicoletaecaterin5555 that depends on what you’re doing.

Very valuable.. Thankyou

Also the FX3 has more customizable buttons, right?
Not that I’m aware of. You can customize any button on the A7siii to be what you want as well
You forgot to mention that the FX3 also allows LUT inputs. Great video nonetheless.
Thanks Jonathan! You mean Gamma Assist Display for SLog 3?

I'm so conflicted - the a7siii just went on special here in SA and the FX3 is staying at such a high price.
I’d go with the A7siii in my opinion if it’s a lot cheaper
is the image quality exactly the same ??
Yes, the exact same

@@wotiluv yes, but not for major software upgrades like the last on that I have not done yet.
Animal Eye detect was in the menu for 5 years and never worked. I think they finally added it in the last firmware update but don't quote me on it.
I think the FX3 now has dynamic stabilization also with the new update.
the fx3 is netflix approval
Very true! If that matters to you then the FX3 would be the call
Is the Sony ZV-E1 same quality as s3 and fx3?
Yeah I own one
Fx3 has an olpf. S3 does not
