I bought the A7SIII after buying the A74. After 8 months, I sold the A74. The A7SIII is here to stay! I also got the FX30 as a B.

It really pisses me off when I keep seeing Sony release a new body and still no word on a firmware update for the a7siii.
Yeah, it does suck Jose! My only hope is that there’s a new A7S on the design board at the moment but that’s still not the point. Very few updates have been made in the 2 and a half years it’s been out. But my other argument is, if there is going to be a 4th rendition, the specs it has to offer have to be really out there and if that’s the case, where does that leave the fx3? It’s getting really complicated over here in the Sony world.

Just picked up the a7siii. Sony is having sony is having some great deals on this camera right now. This is the low light sony beast. The A7R5 doesn’t not have the same low light capability as the a7siii.
I liked the 4-channel sound on the Sony A7S III, though most reviewers don't care about sound. If I knew the FX3 was coming I would have waited, because the sound mixer attachment is much more sturdy.
I care about the sound and it's really frustrating that there's not XLR preamp on the a7siii but that's where the K3M comes in. But for the price of the A7Siii and the K3M you may as well buy the FX3. The way I've gotten round it at home when i'm filming these videos is with the Rode NTG4+ as that has power built in and then run an XLR to 3.5mm jack. Not ideal, far from it but aside from running a separate preamp and/or recording and syncing in post, this is the best option I feel. Urgh... come on sony.
You can fit the FX3's and FX30's XLR handle on the A7Siii and A7iv, if you use a Smallrig cage and Smallrig MD4019 adapter plate. Works well! (Compatible with Smallrig cages 3667, 2999, 3241, 3639, 3594)
@@Edwin-- nice info. It was better on my 15yo Sony camcorder. The XLR attachment was metal, screwed to a cold shoe, with a wire slotting into the hot shoe. Felt safer to me, and once my rig did fall over with minor damage
@@Atamaii You are right, but using the XLR handle in this manner on the A7Siii or A7iv is certainly more secure. The XLR handle and adapter plate are both held in place with 2 screws into the camera cage, while the regular XLR-K3M only clamps onto the hotshoe and can slide off when slightly loose (I never had it fall off, but I had it disconnect from the Multi Interface because it slid backwards a little bit). For the price I think the built quality of both the handle and the XLR-adapter should be better, but they have held up well over the past 3 or so years.
I have the a7iv but have been considering the a7siii as my primary video shooter. I know there are newer cameras but the identical handling is a huge selling point for me. I believe this would complete an amazing setup... a7iv for photos + a7siii for video
We have that exact set-up for the wedding business (it’s my business partners setup) and he loves it! The Siii will be fine for a lot of photos though. We actually only use the Siii when hybrid shooting in the morning for a wedding, so only 12mp photos. We ‘enhance’ them in lightroom to technically 48mp images and they look great, i actually have 12mp photos printed in my house at A1 size, they look great even next to a 61mp photo 😂 makes no sense!

I have done the same, and added an FX30 as B-cam and for very warm environments as it has a fan.

I use my A7-III for photos, and my A7-SIII, for video, Im a hobbyist, I don’t do anything professional, just some youtube videos here and there, and my family vacations.
I literally love my A7-SIII, the sensor was made cinema type videos.
Yeah, i love my A7Siii without a doubt, it does 80-90% of the stuff that I need. In fact, i’m using it on a project this very second. But there’s so much room for improvement on it and it doesn’t seem to be happening. But glad to hear you’re enjoying it!! ✌🏻
@@DannyBligh Oh I agree 100%, theres some software I wish it had, and I know Sony could do it, but I guess they need selling points for lower end cameras. The one software I wish it had, is the focus feature that the A7-4 has. It displays different colors for the parts that out of focus, I forgot the name of it, but its really handy.
Thanks for your video! Got a perfect condition a7s3for 3600 AUD. Very happy with it. It's easy to want to get the next big camera release, and if you have a really high paying clientele, it makes sense to buy the best. For me, people loved my work even on the gh5 so I know a lot of the time when I want to buy a new camera It's usually because I just want to buy something new and not necessarily new demands for clients. Good points made about the fx3, if I had to buy the a7s3 full price, I probably would have waited longer to see what other offerings were coming out.

The best advice i can ever offer people is to buy the camera gear that YOU need, not what others need. Very easy to get caught up with buying the latest and greatest, but it’s definitely not always needed 😂 thanks for watching and enjoy the S3 ✌🏻
i think considering that the a7siii doesn’t over heat, great rolling shutter performance, 240 fps in 1080p, amazing low light capability, and having the flip out screen, i don’t see how it doesn’t smash the competition and tbh it’s still one of the best cameras in my eyes

I have an A0 size print in my lounge of an image I took with a 12mp Nikon D90. I don't understand when people claim that you NEED more megapixels to print big.

I wish Sony would release a detailed 5 or even 2-year general plan for camera models, their capabilities and the company's level of support for them, so we, the consumers, can make more informed choices about what are very expensive purchases. Had I known the FX3 was coming out and it's future firmware capabilities I would have held off on buying the A7s3. Sony would still gotten a lot of money and I would have the ideal tool for my work. As it is, only the first part is true.
Couldn’t agree more!! Don’t get me wrong, my a7siii does the job. It’s not until you start looking at the rest of the market you sit and think “damn…”
I totally agree on this. It would help us in our buying decision. Especially if we are considering switching camera brands. Knowing a roadmap can keep us investing on seeing what we can potentially get instead of looking towards other brands
But then all the second hand retailers would lose out. They need to buy your gear off you so you can upgrade !
Bingo! So many people double dipped buy buying the A7S3 and then buying the FX3 when it dropped. Sony has in-house economists and finance experts who strategically plan these sales years in advance. Myself and millions of others have both cameras now. So Sony didn't mess up, they did exactly what they wanted to do.@@raalaa121
I bought my first a7S3 in 2021; second in 2022; third a7S3 in late 2022. Workhorses as I run all three for 6+ hours continuous 4k60 10 bit.
Well I’ll say this ..I very frequently take photos of myself (Tripod-self timer-Sony app for touch focus and shoot) and I can say that my FX3 actually catches focus better than my A7iv 👀🤷🏽♂️…I absolutely love the FX3 and when the Mark 2 drops I’m grabbing it too ..
I have A7SIII and yes would rather get FX3 if that came earlier, but outside Sony there is no competition. A7Siv would make sense if it has the rumored 21MP, stacked 2-layer transistor sensor. 21MP is a solid photo resolution, and it's rumored that in Slog3 the second base ISO is at 25,600!!! This means it's gonna probably double the ISO performance which is crucial to me.
I’ve considered moving to both Lumix and Canon but none of their cameras can provide what I want for video yet either 🤷🏻♂️
If the A7Siv came with 20mp+ i’d be over the moon! We shall wait and see

Yeahhhh, it’s not much to ask for but I reckon there will be a new A7S in the pipeline and we’ll see it released or at least rumours in the next 12 months.
But! The reason they also haven’t done it with the a7s3 is to split the models more. If you gave the s3 everything then it would tread on the toes of other models. Typical marketing but damn it’s annoying

Yup, and annoyingly on the a7siii you can't update it via the SD card like you can on the a7iv. Or at least I don't think you can...
Another great Video, and good to chat to you earlier even though I think you just cost me some hard earned cash :) All your points are valid here, I also am frustrated as an A7S iii owner that there have been no major firmware updates, but it's obviously strategic to hold the A7S iii back, whilst widening the gap between the FX3 and the A7S iii. Sony, as Apple always do, must have a Master plan for the next few years and let's face it, if key things were added via Firmware updates, it would stop buyers moving up the ladder. Apple are masters at this ie: Every year they add that ONE feature you get enticed by and even though you know deep down you don't REALLY need it, you succumb! well I do anyway .. I am weak what can I say? On the FX3, to me, that AI addition to the R V would be missing from it, I wouldn't want to spend 4K on an FX3 knowing there is obviously an FX4 coming in the next year or so with that AI chip added, so worth waiting for in my opinion. Anyway, will stop waffling now .. thanks again for great and useful Video content !

Wise words Danny, again. Having just bought the A7R5 instead of the A7S3 I'm very happy with my choice. Handheld 4k 60 is really nice. But have you seen the A7S4 rumours starting to circulate on YT? Perhaps a Q3 2023 release? Could be just that, rumours, but it might explain why no firmware updates other than Sony pushing us down the FX line for video. And if an A7S4 came out I'd much rather that than the FX3 precisely because of the EVF.
Heard a few bits on the net about the A7Siv but it's too early to say. Before an A1ii comes out I think an A7Siv has to come as the A1 is a mix of the R line and S line and with the R5 already being out, the S should in theory be next. Who knows! But it's exciting! Thanks for watching!
a7s2 to a7s3 took 5 years. wouldn't surprise me if sony waits till 2025 for a7s4

@@DannyBligh I'm still on the a7s2, almost didn't buy the a7s2 in late 2016 because I thought the a7s3 would arrive in 2017. Not sure what sony could do with a7s4 right now (other than new firmware, but they should do that with the a7s3)
the only big thing I would like to see the a7s4 do is internal raw. but red have a patent on RAW video it seems. otherwise the very expensive canon r5c and nikon z9 are the only other option (adn I think 8k is overkill). an a7s4 with a cooling fan could be nice (I need an evf for filming, so fx3 is a no go)
if Nikon put raw video in the nikon z7iii I might even buy nikon

Hi mate. Appreciate this is an old video but if you still get notifications I'd appreciate the reply! Currently using FX3s for my weddings through my work. Lucky I know. Saved up enough to buy some cameras and I was looking to get the A7SIII until I saw this video. I never take the top handle to any weddings. I run all my audio with TX650s/660s and happy with that workflow so I don't need XLRS into the camera. For the £500 difference, am I really going to miss out on anything else from the FX3? I don't really use the custom monitoring LUTS and I pretty much stick at 4k50 all day so I rarely have to change the shutter. TORN!
Also I've taken the A7RV to every wedding since it came out and I have not been impressed with the video at all. The low light performance just doesn't match the FX3s and I'm replacing it very soon.
If you don’t need all the extra features that the fx3 offers, you have answered your own question. Get the A7siii.

The first half of this video made a lot of sense until we started to compare other options that are 2x the cost as the a7iii. Kinda lose it at that point.
As someone who films wild life and stills that view finder is worth it for myself.

me still rocking a a7s2. thinking about going to the a7s3 for 10 bit and raw video............for run and gun I hate that the fx3 lacks an evf (use it a fair bit). feels like I'm the only one who uses an evf for video work (great on a glidecam.....than pull up to eye for certain framing)
There's nothing wrong with upgrading to the A7Siii, it's still damn good for video. Last weekend we did a wedding (just video) and the A7Siii's came in clutch for the evening.
And you're actually not alone with the EVF, my business partner uses his for video a lot. He said it's good for when it's a little too sunny for the screen and another point of contact for stability. We all have different ways of working and what works for you may be different to others out there. Don't hold me responsible for the purchase you're about to make ;) Thanks for watching
Dma I dk why but I was so hyped saving up for a Sony a7siii but after watching this I’m like I dk anymore. I currently shoot with a sonya6600 and I wanted a fx3 but I feel like I’m still a beginner and won’t use it to its full capabilities. I mostly shoot video but I also take photos. I might still go for the a7siii but I’ll try and look for other options too.
I kinda like the new Sony Zv-e1 since you can use LUTS in camera too

Well a lot you said with regard to the Sony a7siii compared to the FX3 can be fixed with a simple firmware update to a7siii because it essentially the same exact camera internally and image wise. The only thing Sony changed was user interface and gave them more updates which quite messed of Sony to do that. Why not give a7siii users the firmware updates! Why cannabalize your own product that gave you the biggest notoriety!! Sony is truly messed up for this move! Mxm

The A7Siii unless it’s footage showing the body of that camera, and the lenses will be a variety. 16-35, 24, 35, 24-70 and probably some telephone lenses. It’s a mixture of lots of things from over the last year or so
@@DannyBligh when you say 16 - 35, 24, 35, 24 - 70 are you referring to the Sony Tamron lenses?. Also for vlogging, TH-cam videos and some Instagram pictures. What Sony camera do you suggest if I may ask. Is the Sony A7 s3 a solid choice?
They are all Sony GM lenses.
I’d say so yeah, however there’s other options. A ZVE1 or a7iv are great

I need a good hybrid for video and photo, for football/basketball, but i genuinley cant decide between the a74 or a7s3, what do u think?
So between the cameras there are a bunch of differences but these’s are 3 things you need to answer…
1) are you ever going to need to supply large images or prints?
This is something to consider as the pixel count is about 21mp different but i print 12mp images and they are fine at viewing distance, especially if you use the enhance feature in lightroom but no doubt, more pixels better than quality print.
2) do you need 100/120fps in 4k? And can you deal with a 1.5x crop in slowmo?
3) do you need really clean footage in low light?
If you can answer them, then you should know which to go for. I like them both 🤷🏻♂️ but I missed the a7iv and got the a7rv

I actually preferred the a7siii, but there’s no general right or wrong with cameras mate! It’s all down to your needs and what a camera can provide. That’s why i never got the a7iv, it didn’t give me what i wanted but the a7rv and a7siii together does. Yeah, costs a lot but it’s my full time job and i can justify the costs. Doesn’t mean that setup is for everybody.

Two different cameras really! The A7Siii is the clear winner for video but if you want a budget friendly all rounder with a few limitations for video, the a7iv is a very good option.

Hey, could you recommend me a great Sony Alpha Camera for video? I really want to make sure I’m buying a camera that was made for video and for my small budget of £1500
Looking at the current market (providing you need just a body) i’d say look for a cheap used a7iv if you’re wanting something from the later releases.
If you don’t mind having something older, an a7iii is fine for general filming and you can get one for around £1000.
If you need a lens, look at the a6600. Don’t know a great deal about the aps-c camera but it’s good enough for most things including video. Has it’s limitations but to remain in budget you don’t have a huge amount of options.

I saw a page stating something about the letters used on the cameras (e.g the S in A7S) and I wanted to know what the letters meant like if it was for photography or videography. @@Prabolo so the a6 series (like the a6600) are all aps-c (crop sensor). Then you have the a7 series, such as the a7iii and a7iv, these are hybrid cameras and budget friendly. They do a little big of everything from the A7s and a7r series.
A7r (r standard for resolution) is designed for mainly high resolution photography but does have video involved. The new a7rv has 4k 60fps for instance which is really nice. But the sensor is 61mp so designed for large photos.
A7s (s stands for sensitivity) is a 12mp sensor and therefore is better for video. Better sensor read-off, better low light, 4k up to 120fps but because of 12mp sensor, it can’t take photos and print them as large as the a7r series. But it can take great photos still.
Then you have the A1, the A1 is the a7r AND a7s in one camera (give or take). 61mp but also 4k 120fps.
And finally you have the A9 series which i know very little about. But from what I know, it’s mainly aimed at photography and sports photography.

It’s still an incredible camera and it’s still the perfect (or most perfect) camera for some people. But there’s other options too 🤷🏻♂️ Sony doesn’t help themselves as they seem to bring out a new camera every day that ends in Y 😂😂
