The FX3 isn’t marketed as a hybrid camera, kind of a weird comparison. I think the A7RV would’ve been fair to compare. U don’t buy an Fx3 with photos in mind 🤷🏽♂️
So what? Those cameras are roughly the same price and canon does even better video. So for someone in the Business for good video cameras r5 is well into business and it makes people interested in fx3 thinking twice if they want the overpriced sony. I would never buy fx3 until the price drops to 2500 at least, even at this price i would rather buy nikon z63 instead

As someone whos had the A7siii and Fx3 but now moved to the R5ii. I loved the sony's, but only for video. At this point in my career I am a hybrid shooter and most of my clients require me to do both. I had 2 setups in the past where I would bring the fx3 for video and canon for photos, but I didn't like lugging around that much gear. Made the tough choice to sell my Sony and stick with canon. At the end of the day these are just tools, and there's not a perfect camera out there for everyone. If youre Nikon, lumix, sony, canon, fuji, or olympus, use what works for your needs.
For the same reason, I moved to Sony A7IV: not the best in photo, not the best in video, but the "all in one" hybrid solution at a very reasonable price. Cheers!
FX3 remains the Goat when it comes to professional cinematography, shooting slog 3 with the capability of filming with Cine gamma rec709 luts has been a Game changer and sony GM Lenses are more suitable for video , I'd say the R5ii is also good , best in photography and it is good in video and the biggest change in the EOS R5 II is the move to a Stacked CMOS sensor.
If you're from Vietnam or other Southeast Asian countries, you'll understand how much the Sony FX3 can improve your filmmaking and make the job easier. The Canon R5 II isn’t as good as some reviews claim. In Vietnam, almost 95% of individuals and businesses involved in filmmaking or content creation use the Sony FX3 because it’s lightweight but has incredibly fast autofocus. The native ISO 12800 is really effective in low-light situations, and the FX3 excels at that. If you shoot a lot, you'll realize that portability matters more than recording 8K raw video
I watch a vlogger in the Philippines who uses an FX3. His auto focus is constantly losing focus and latching onto anything. He doesn’t edit this out. I think my EOS R stays locked on better than the FX3.
No comparison of lens selection? That's one of the main reason I stick to sony these day. Don't want to shell out $2-3K for first party lenses. Tamron and Sigma are 90% of the quality for half the price or less.

@@darylhermann3792 So many reasons. Initially though, Internal RAW recording. The H265 10-bit is also excellent as it offers all of it's resolutions and framerates on the H265 without any crop from fullHD all the way through 8K. The RAW recording covers 8.3k up to 60fps & 4.1k up to 120fps with no crop. They do offer crop modes on top of that with APSC (DX) on 5.4k up to 60fps. They also offer what they call 3.8k (what most call UHD 3840x2160) with a 2.3x crop at 100 & 120fps. for when you want to punch in and get that extra reach from your lens. It's very useful, because I still can do full frame no crop 4.1k or if I need I can choose the crop mode. Either way, I edit in 3840x2160. So I gain tons of options of how i can shoot. I also get Prores RAW & Prores 422 HQ in case a client requires it although the framerates and crops are slightly limited compared to the above mentioned formats. Either way, this thing blows away the competition. Photography wise, I haven't found anything the Z8 & Z9 can't do. My job bought the Z9 and the 2.8 24-70 2.8, 70-200 2.8, and 105 2.8 Macro lenses. I bought myself the Z8 and am almost done completing my set of 1.8 S line lenses of (20,35,50,85, &135) I prefer my Z8 but I use both. The Z9 is a beast to handle, but i still love it. I feel the controls and button layout on the Z8 is more refined and not overwhelming. It takes a bit to get used to the Nikon system, but once you wrap your head around it, it is much nicer. Did i mention that i simply use their phone app to update the frequent firmware upgrades that Nikon keeps releasing with more features making the cameras better and better everytime. I could go on, but that is just the tip of the iceberg on how great it has been to move to the Nikon Z system. I'll say I still don't like the rotation of the lens mount when taking the lenses on and off, but is that stupid little quirk worth any judgement? The answer is NO. Hope this helps. One last thing.... Them releasing the RED luts is huge!!!!!!! Ok Ok, i'll stop now.
What is a camera without a lens? I would say that the lenses that are available is a big part of the decision making. I don't think many people sell all their lenses every few years to buy new ones for the camera that they are going to buy. So, when you buy your first camera you should make a decision which brand you are going to use. Sony simply has the most lenses and also has the most lenses in different price categories. For me, that advantage alone would already rule out any other brand then Sony. At this point I have all the lenses for Sony camera's which means I will only start reconsidering when Sony would stop with the E-mount system.
Solid video! Only point I would argue is the IBIS section. Owned the FX3, A7SIII, R5, R5II, R6II and a bunch of other bodies and in my OPINION, I hate Sony Stabilization. This is definitely a preference thing for everyone since I liked the R5II footage you showed more!

Personally I will say that for run and gun shooting, the FX3 and the A7SIII take the cake JUST because of size and low light capabilities. I no longer have either at this point, but I definitely miss the A7SIII for my just run and gun shooting, especially at night. As far as the IBIS goes, I just really like the way that Canon looks compared to Sony, especially for any "vlogging" style videos.

Good comparison. One suggestion though, keep continuity with the sides through all the video. Everything was going great with Sony on the right and Canon on the left, until the first side by side (resolution) it flipped. Then the next side by side (color science), it flipped back. Then, flipped again for low light, etc.. all the physical placements were done perfect, but the examples could have matched that. I know, I'll probably have someone knock me for it, but take it for what you will.
Couple more things which are not as major but useful is that Canon can "upscale" pictures taken to higher MP in camera than the 45MP sensor. Also It has the ability to take pictures while recording video so that can be useful for solo videographers/photographers doing events. It truly is a power house since it offers cinema level video features and amazing photo features.
The fact that you are asking if a 3 year old camera, that was used to film a major Hollywood movie (The Creator) is even an option against the R5 ii should let you know something about the FX3.
Whilst this might not be necessarily a "fair" comparison, it's definitely 2 cameras that budding filmmakers/photographers ponder on. So its good to compare even if the R5ii excells more in photo than the FX3 does in video and vice versa. The FX3 would be more reliable as far as real world video work is concerned. R5ii gonna crap out with its bloated codecs and would need that grip just to be slightly more reliable.
8k shooting for traditional video is overkill but for immersive video it's an absolute necessity that's where the canon shines. For traditional video I prefer the Sony FX3.
Weird that there's no mention of audio capture - which is a huge market separator between these two cameras. FX3 has a dedicated XLR top handle while the canon relies on a cheap 3rd party tascam adapter. That's going to be a major value driver for video-centric buyers.
It's hard to go wrong with the cameras available today. Only 3-4 years ago the choice to go with Sony was not as easy. Now let's hope Sony improves their displays, user interface, and offers higher data rates (possibly raw video).

Great video. If I remember correctly, the Canon R5C could not do auto focus if you filmed at 60 frames per second in the slow and fast setting. Is that correct? Cause I remember I rented the camera to test it a couple of years ago, and AF would only work in 60fps non slow and fast. Which means then that you can’t play back the clip in slow motion for the client right out of camera. If this is correct, this is kind of like a dealbreaker. I think that’s why I didn’t end up buying the camera. Also one other factor is that you have the ability to use custom luts, but you can’t output the lut during playback, so you need a monitor that can add a lut. Just too many little weird things That compared to an FX3 is a no-no. Although I do love the video quality and I live the high megapixel. Cause then you don’t need to have a second camera for stills.

Not a fanboy for either brand but Autofocus text should never be conducted with a white background. There is nothing in the background to show pulsation. A busy real world background is the best way to test this feature. Unfortunately this test proves very little.

to me the canon colour science straight out of camera looks more vibrant and clear whereas the sony was a little too bright on the whites and not as vibrant. I currently shoot sony.

Cannon needs to lose a point on video. If you’re not shooting 8k or 4k fine (maxing at 30fps) the video quality is truly terrible. It also overheats after about 22 minutes without the fan. My 8k60 raw is cool but a 21 minute of recording is 500 +gb and again the 4k fine dose not have 60fps
that was my first thought... 12mp is the way that sony wins the rolling shutter problem. So people are so stucked about resolution and megapixels which is wrong. Even if i had 8k i would't use it in most of my scenarios. It's an exception that would help in some projects only...
No no no buddy… r5ii has a stacked sensor and readout is about 5.3ms whereas the fx3, fx6, and a7siii have about a 7ms rolling shutter… so nah, Canon wins there.

4:31 -- I mean canon blows Sony out of the water; ive been dying on this hill for a while, but even the fx6 and fx9s just are way to "digital" and have an off putting quality to them even with dialed in lighting and environment; its only when you get up to the burano level with Sony do I feel like they kill it; anything less Is just not as good (which of course, subjective) than other brands

12800 looks mushy. Snd anything below that and above the base iso has terrible noise reduction on it.

Nikon Z8 & Z9 owner here…. Built my career on Canon & Mostly Sony. But made the switch and it was the best move I’ve ever made!

Definitely think there is a weird gap between these cameras. I think the fx3 has features that is shared between the r52 and the r5c

Not a fanboy for either brand but Autofocus text should never be conducted with a white background. There is nothing in the background to show pulsation. A busy real world background is the best way to test this feature. Unfortunately this test proves very little.

Ngl, this was kind of a weird comparison. The FX3 is low-light centric, video focused camera and the R5II is a photo focused hybrid body.

to me the canon colour science straight out of camera looks more vibrant and clear whereas the sony was a little too bright on the whites and not as vibrant. I currently shoot sony.

Cannon needs to lose a point on video. If you’re not shooting 8k or 4k fine (maxing at 30fps) the video quality is truly terrible. It also overheats after about 22 minutes without the fan.
My 8k60 raw is cool but a 21 minute of recording is 500 +gb and again the 4k fine dose not have 60fps

Sony does not take high speed pictures as the Canon, so there's no comparison point
that was my first thought... 12mp is the way that sony wins the rolling shutter problem. So people are so stucked about resolution and megapixels which is wrong.
Even if i had 8k i would't use it in most of my scenarios. It's an exception that would help in some projects only...
No no no buddy… r5ii has a stacked sensor and readout is about 5.3ms whereas the fx3, fx6, and a7siii have about a 7ms rolling shutter… so nah, Canon wins there.

4:31 -- I mean canon blows Sony out of the water; ive been dying on this hill for a while, but even the fx6 and fx9s just are way to "digital" and have an off putting quality to them even with dialed in lighting and environment; its only when you get up to the burano level with Sony do I feel like they kill it; anything less Is just not as good (which of course, subjective) than other brands
The 5RC is still a better video camera than the R5II. I don't see why anyone who's focused on video would bother getting it over the R5C.
