It was one hell of a bagel. Sakkari made 5 points in total in the 2nd set (24:5). That is like Iga was 3 levels above Sakkari.
Sakkari was magnificent during this tournament, super-strong and focused. Swiatek had to play at her best today, and she delivered. Iga is brilliant, and in a league of her own.

I thought this would be a very close match (with Iga winning), and I give Maria credit for fighting back in that first set, but once Iga gets confident in her game, there's no stopping her.
Maria just isn't good enough with this gameplay. She needs to get better or won't be able to beat top 5 to win Grand Slams.

@@gajdek6456 I don't think she was in such a good form. I felt she was sketchy in some of her matches but of course didn't expect her losing to Noskova after she beat 2 much better players than her in previous rounds. It''s tennis so you have one bad day and you lose the whole thing. Tough sport.
I am not an Iga fan...but we have to admit What a talent she is...at this young age of 22 what she has achieved is really remarkable...most consistent player over past 2years...Her 9-1 H2H against top 3 player Gauff itself speaks of the wide gap she has over other top players in the circuit...well done Iga and with her favorite clay season ahead looks like she wl keep her no:1 position whole year...
Iga is definitely a great player but she is Gauffs worst matchup. Iga is like 0-5 against Ostapenko whom is like 0-6 against Azarenka whom Iga can beat.

Bakery open on a Sunday! almost unheard of.
I joke about Iga's Bakery but seriously; I think every round except one she served up a bagel or a breadstick. That is serious domination. Saw Maria vs Coco and thought that she might give Iga a hard day but once that first set was away, she seemed to be swinging freer.

Yeah, Maria fought hard in the 1rst, but when you fight hard and don't get the win against Iga, it's normal to loose you confidence - I'm happy that Iga stayed focus after the 1rst and played her best until the end, which is not that easy.
Her celebrations are contagious. I don't remember any other player enjoying this sport so much
Contrast with Carlos Alcaraz, who did not celebrate too much his huge win with Jannik Sinner. I prefer Carlos classy attitude.

It’s now has more masters 1000 than Kim clijsters and has 4 of them won without a lost set the entire tournament which is equal to Steffi Graff. Each tournament she wins she’s joining legends with records left and right 🙃
It's unfair to compare Graf's WTA masters 1000 titles to Iga because the tour structure was different back then. They didn't count Graf's masters titles before 1990 otherwise at her peak Steffi won many tier 1 tournament without dropping a set.
That's fair, especially given how dominant Steffi was in 1988. But I think it's also indicative of how significant Iga's accomplishments are that we have to go back to the greats for comparison. @@rajusaha855

Another beautiful finish to a beautiful tournament for Iga. Sakkari matched Iga's athleticism, but not her shotmaking. Well done to Sakkari for making the first set competitive, but after 4-all, Iga tightened the screws and lost only a couple points as she took the set. She then never looked back. High serve numbers and fewer UEs. Sakkari looks more positive on court, perhaps the recent change in her team will help her become more competitive in the future. Congrats to the world no.1, she is making history as she goes👏

I want to say your right, but specialists pop up from time to time and can really throw a wrench in things, especially as volatile as the WTA.

the 9th game of the 1rst set was the key - Not only Iga plays great tennis, but she also knows when points are crucials ! That's what champions do! That's why I love to watch her matches, even when she is less confident, she always gives everything she has, and when something doesn't work, she tries to adjust and most of the time, it works

what an amazing,amazing player iga swiatek,she plays the game of tennis so agresively,she has no mercy on her opponents,she takes the ball very early,she hits alot of top spins,she is quick as a cat getting to the balls,she can stand in the middle of the court and change the direction of the ball either to the far right or the far left of the court,and she is like a shark once she smells blood she wont stop until she gets her prey,she does not give up on any shots,it does not matter if she is up or down in the match.but she still has not beaten ostepenko.
Such an apt description! Admire her skills but it’s hard to watch at times like today. Was hoping that Maria would give her a tough battle but lost her way in the second set.

A lot of commenters claim clay courts are Iga's best surface. Hard to believe. Her play on hardcourts looks pretty good to me. .She just gets better. A bad day every now and then,but 95% of the time, dominates many opponents. Iga can elevate her level of play like S.Graf/Martina /Seles /Williams. A pleasure to watch. Miami is next 😎
Clay is Iga's best surface. Her movement on clay is second to none, Paris and Rome are her favourite clay tournaments. She's going to win many more RGs. She's that good. Slow and high bouncing HC Indian Wells and Doha are also perfect for Iga, but still clay will be always closest to her heart. She was raised there.

Obviously WTA thinks that if they do not post highlights of Sakkari vs Gauff semi finals, then it never happened. Anyways, Gauff was playing her best tennis in the semis, but still lost because Sakkari was playing one level better than her.
Queen of the Californian desert! Today it is Iga's paradise!
1GA - you're just amazing!
Iga is a tennis terminator. Sakkari has improved a lot but she didn't have enough tools to beat Iga. She put up a good fight in the first set. But you need to maintain the highest level for much longer to compete with Iga. Then Sakkari lost focus because she started thinking what to change to win points and kind of forgot about her best tennis. When Sakarri broke Iga who was struggling a bit, Iga's mental coach told her Iga just focus on yourself, then Iga improved her game, avoided errors and jumped away from Sakarri.
Sakkari should be VERY happy with her tournament, epic week for her, hopefully more to come 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

I still didn't understand to people who gave comment that iga is in weak era, even if we knew, when iga was always beaten over and over by maria before she got best form like rn, it means iga is getting much better nowdays, do you think if iga is not in competition and it would be more competitive?. she is learner and ambitius, so no wonder if she is dominated and ambitious. If they could not beat iga, it does not mean iga is boring, she is just too good in her form rn, we just need to admit it.

Wow that’s some dominating performance from Iga, we all know who’s going to win the women’s French open 2024. She’s pretty much going to be Nadalesque on clay. On hard courts in grand slams especially US and Australian open, she has a mental block of winning. Honestly she should easily win them too
