Totally agree, I've been watching those highlights for long time and every single time I've had the same thoughts. They never show the real story of the games.
The question I kept asking myself was: ''How long can Osaka keep playing this insane level of tennis?'' When she was up 5-3 in the 3rd I was sure she atleast kept it up long enough to secure the win. Huge credit to Swiatek for not giving up and stay in the match.
Both Iga and Naomi were absolutely brilliant! The match was amazing but it shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody - the players we saw in that match together have won 8 slams!

Match point down, just like against Sabalenka in Madrid, and again she found something, under even more pressure here. Some of the shots she played to win those last five games were just unreal. It's why she's number one. In a way, having to win like this may well sharpen up her focus for the rest of the tournament.
People seemed to forget who is Naomi Osaka, she just refreshed their memory...great game, bravo Iga...if Naomi stays healthy and motivated she will be in a matter of few months where she belongs at least top 5
I've literally switched off the stream when Iga was down 0:3 in 3rd set. Not because I thought that this score is irreversible. But because how great Naomi was playing. Like every shot, even under big pressure, landed in-court. I thought "ok, it's Naomi's day, that happens some times...". 1GA so mentally strong that it's just beyond belief. Can't imagine she's not winning this whole tournament now.
I think she will win it. And yes she was mentally tough, but it helped that Osaka made some easy mistakes when she had her chances to get a double break. Then she lost her cool on the serve as well and as soon as Iga made it 5:5 I knew she was going to win. Sad for Osaka who played amazing until the last 15-20 minutes. She probably needs a couple more tight matches to get used to the pressure, she hasn’t been in that situation for couple of years. But it’s good to see her playing so well.

WOW. What.a.match!🤯🤯Such high quality, perfect thriller😍Huge respect to these amazing champs, love both of them, pure class both Iga and Naomi💜Just awesome to see Naomi back in such great form, enjoying herself on court😃Looking forward to see more of her competing with the top 10, she'll surely make WTA, which I'm loving already, even more exciting! She was on fire today, she just went for it, she was so pumped up to beat Iga, it was clear that she believed she can do it. But I'm even more impressed with Iga's comeback and mental fortitude - because she is the one with all of the pressure, everyone is expecting her to win and defend the title, plus almost 2000 points on the line...Seriously,her mental strenght never fails to amaze me...Considering that she's still SO YOUNG...the way how she handles the pressure of being world#1 is insane...the target is constantly on HER back. How she's able to continue fighting off every player who comes out on court ready to really go for it and play the match of their life without having any expectations put on them is simply beyond me ( and today, with Osaka playing like THAT, breaks and matchpoints down🤯)Only TRUE LEGENDS can do that. It's one thing to get to the no.1 spot, quite another to stay there for over 100 weeks...Just ask Naomi and Sabalenka about that. True inspiration!👏💪💪Go Iga, one stop closer to another RG trophy😍
Some who follow Iga may remember she played a game like this before. It was in Rome 2021, third round against Barbora Krejcikova. She lost the first set 6:3 and was down 5-40:2 in the second set. She defended the game and went on to win. She got to the final and double baggeled Karolina Plišková who was nuber 3 at the time in just under 40 minutes. It was the most ruthless match/execution from Iga that I have ever seen.
One of the best WTA matches this year. Definitely TOP 3. Lots of games of 7-10+ minutes each. I am a big fan of 1GA, but Naomi played at full risk, had an amazing serve and played well tactically (bravo to the coach). I haven't seen her so motivated and confident for a long time! She defended a lot of break points. In the second set she literally crushed the WTA #1, came back from 0-40 and played amazing returns. 👏 If N.Osaka hadn't hit the ball into the net in the 3rd set at 5-3 15-15 she probably would have won the match. 1GA from 2-5, 0-30 in 3rd set to victory!
It tells a lot about the sad state of women's tennis that this really was probably the best mach of the year. It was tense for sure, but the quality of play was mostly mediocre.
@@MattiyeCsome people are never content. Yeah mediocre, both players with more winners than errors, serving constantly around 190-200km/h, great tactical battle, but yeah mediocre my ass.
You do realise that the conditions will have meant the clay was heavy? Not like a hard court. Osaka just played out of her skin, the best she's ever played on clay. Some big hitters just adapt quickly on some occasions. Iga just didn't expect such an intense game from her opponent and her energy dropped in the second set. But the fight she showed was just, well, unbelievable.
@@Nightopian1982 Naomi played fantastic, still i never saw the ball bouce so low on a clay court, have you? This was a huge disadvantage for Iga and her topspin game today!
@@schachowyslon2881 it was, but Iga's game generally would still have been too much for most players. Trouble was that Osaka was striking the ball early and very flat, which Iga couldn't cope with a lot of the time. Unfortunately for Osaka, her style meant that her arm was always likely to tighten up in a longer match. She carried on as she was, hitting big and flat, and then the errors started flowing at the worst time. Iga doesn't get the credit she deserves for seeing out these longer matches, especially when trailing. Top players adjust their game to suit the conditions and the situation.
This must be heartbreaking for Osaka to win after being up 5-2 0-30 and having had a match point at 5-3 (why isn't that in the summary by the way?). But if anything, Osaka should take out the positive out of this match. She showed that potentially she can get that #1 spot. Osaka in top form is a joy to watch and a real added value to the WTA.
I wish they would've clashed in later rounds... I would've liked to see a few more matches on clay from Osaka, with today's level she could've made a deep run!

Holy shit, I feel so bad Naomi lost this match. She was playing incredible tennis, like it was final. She is back for sure. Looking forward for hard court part of the season
Iga doesn’t use the wide serve and the T serve at all for free points and Naomi got so comfortable. Eventually a relief that a 4th RG title is still possible.
@@marcinzagol6818 depends on who she's playing. Naomi is not the best mover and a faster court and more lively balls would prevent her from teeing off like she did today.
in US Open Iga won't be so stressed out as here where she's already declared a winner before RG even started. It really showed today how stressed out she was. I've seen it on her face since 1st point of the match. The expression changed after Naomi choked on her serve at 5:3 in the 3rd set but only then.
IGA is incredible, she is number one in the world for a long time without breaks and had no baby. Osaka, wow this match was incredible although she lost she gave Iga a match that nobody has been able to really give her. So for me Iga had to dig very deep because she had to, how would it look the number one lost to someone who have only recently returned, played a few tournaments and wasn’t very successful. I agree fully with someone who said that Iga could become one of the best players who graced the courts. Having said that, Osaka I believe is back and this woman when playing like she played today has this invincibility that’s incredible and she’s afraid of nobody. So let’s see what happens from here on with this momentum because she has nothing to be disappointed about it was an incredible match by both players.
Jeszcze raz na spokojnie obejrzałem skrót. Ten mecz miał szalony przebieg i dostarczył wiele emocji.
I don`t understand that. Iga looked tired, unfocused, hopeless. Missed easy shots, couldn`t serve well, moved slower than Osaka. And then she casually won 5 games and a match.
At 5-2 i went back to my workplace hopefully Osaka day has come, but I was wrong with the final results in front of my mobile phone "Swiatek won Osaka" unbelievable match, congratulations to Iga, and wishing Osaka good luck in her subsequent matches.
People seem to forget two things: 1. Naomi is a good friend of Iga. She supported her and took her under her wing when Iga was on the up after her first Roland Garros grand slam. That's why Iga didn't celebrate beating her friend on her return to the tour at the end of the game. 2. Iga's biggest ambition is to win Olympics. Her father was an olympian rower who failed at olympics because one of his crew fell ill just before the race. That's why he directed Iga towards an individual sport so the same doesn't happen to her. This is an Olympic year. In Paris. Which will be played on clay...
Best WTA match I've seen in a long time. Amazing mental by Iga, but I'm especially excited for Naomi. wow I thought Osaka won with a 5-2 lead in the 3rd... beautiful tennis! bravo to both

I'am stil can't believe what I saw :).
@@MattiyeC what about Federer vs Djokovic in wimbledon when Federer was 40-0 but lost the game on his own serve? Was 3 Champ points...
He was 40:15 (30:15 and then 40:15) It was 2019 wimbledon final
@@MattiyeCsome people are never content. Yeah mediocre, both players with more winners than errors, serving constantly around 190-200km/h, great tactical battle, but yeah mediocre my ass.
@@MattiyeCEver played tennis? Sitting in your RV in southern Alabama with your two deaf sons?
iga's win is a wonder: closed roof, almost indoor tennis. yeah, osaka played incredible, but the court was like a fast hard court...
This!
Respect for Osaka 👊 She really challenged Iga but Swiątek was stronger mentally in the end of the match 🥶
Iga is absolutely brilliant!
I don't know who made these highlights, but it was another time when many important and good points of the match were not shown.
Totally agree. Bizarre to leave out the match point.
Mega szacun iga 🎉🎉
One of the best wta matches this year and Osaka plays amazing tennis.
So happy to see Osaka playing again. Her groundstrokes were astonishing in this match, this will be a great rivalry

I think Poland and Japan showed what is typical for their nations - "Never surrender".

Iga! Polish national treasure!
I wish they would've clashed in later rounds... I would've liked to see a few more matches on clay from Osaka, with today's level she could've made a deep run!
Pierwszy mecz a zarazem szlema w US Open przegrała Sabalenka "3 set, ma przełamanie końcówka i przegrywa a teraz Osaka.

Great match from both ladies. That was a Tennis by big "T". Iga is just incredible... Shame on you Paris for really poor attendance on such a great match.
Ridiculous attendance. Shame on you RG!
Nie zgadzam się. Osaka to wie. W końcu wygrała 4 razy Szlema. To Iga Świątek zaskoczyła i myślała tylko o każdym kolejnym punkcie w każdej kolejnej akcji. To jest jej duży Atut. Znaleźć zawsze receptę będąc w olbrzymich tarapatach. Jak dzisiaj. Nie miała najlepszego dnia. To fakt. Tym bardziej cenne jest to zwycięstwo.
8:26 🤯🤯🤯 This point in THIS moment, wtf!!🔥🔥
Poor highlights. After 1:1 5:2 there is suddenly 5:4. The best action isn't shown here.
What a match
Wow what a match
I was there live in the stadium, it was such a pleasure to watch. Naomi serving with around 200 km/h is ridiculous… also the way she outplayed Iga in the 2nd set, wow
That was actually a final…..I don’t think it gets better than that.
What a game. Uffffff 🔥🤯👏
Naomi's moves OMG, unpredictable like Andrey Rublev
This is probably the best match Naomi Osaka has ever played on clay. She's going to dominate at the US Open if she can keep this form going.
don't forget this was a very different claycourt game than usual. roof closed, cold & moist conditions. Not good for Iga's spin.
@@al1976-v7mwell, cold and moist conditions are very good for Iga's style - remember RG2020 edition? Indoor court changed everything
@@marcinzagol6818 depends on who she's playing. Naomi is not the best mover and a faster court and more lively balls would prevent her from teeing off like she did today.
@@al1976-v7mShe didn’t slide well in the beginning of the match but then she improved a lot , high tennis IQ.
in US Open Iga won't be so stressed out as here where she's already declared a winner before RG even started.
Can’t wait to see them size up again
Jeszcze raz na spokojnie obejrzałem skrót. Ten mecz miał szalony przebieg i dostarczył wiele emocji.

Iga is a true Champion 💪
I don`t understand that. Iga looked tired, unfocused, hopeless. Missed easy shots, couldn`t serve well, moved slower than Osaka. And then she casually won 5 games and a match.
Nothing casual about it, Świątek dug deep and held on just enough to give Osaka a chance to mess up.
Her last out in 2nd set was clearly intentional too. She was really playing another game in her head in this match.
Accidentally???
Iga....never give up !!!
Wtf are the 3rd set highlights?! Barely showed a single Swiatek point minus the final game 🤷🏻♂️
Great match. Osaka unlucky to much outs. But outstanding pefrormace. Iga was underr press but she showed how strong is she.
Well that was insane. Congrats to you both, really amazing players 👏🏻
monstrous level from osaka wow
At 5-2 i went back to my workplace hopefully Osaka day has come, but I was wrong with the final results in front of my mobile phone "Swiatek won Osaka" unbelievable match, congratulations to Iga, and wishing Osaka good luck in her subsequent matches.
People seem to forget two things:
Piękny pojedynek...
Great match !!
Best WTA match I've seen in a long time. Amazing mental by Iga, but I'm especially excited for Naomi. Heartbreaking loss, but with this match she proved the haters wrong; the way she bagelled Iga in second set was some insane tennis. If she keeps nurturing and maintaining that level, she's gonna be back big time and I'm all for it! Let's go Naomi, I love you!
